‘Creed’ dealt a dynamite blow to all box office projections this week.
The boxing flick, which continues the ‘Rocky’ legacy, capped off with a five-day domestic total of $42.6 million.
Impressive on a number of fronts, the figure is particularly noteworthy because it means the Michael B. Jordan film bests initial estimates ($35 million) by a considerable margin. What’s more, the sum sees the movie (which smartly co-stars Sylvester Stallone) become the most successful ‘Rocky’ movie launch of all-time – topping the $21 million debut of Stallone’s last stint as lead [2006’s ‘Rocky Balboa’].
With industry analysts predicting a $100 million eventual total for ‘Creed’ (which had a $35 million budget), its 29-year director Ryan Coogler and all involved have much to smile about.
