Ratings: VH1’s ‘Hip Hop Honors’ Hits Lowest Viewership Since 2008

Published: Tuesday 26th Sep 2017 by Rashad

Not even the combined powers of Lil’ Kim, Missy Elliott, Remy Ma, and the lady of the hour – honoree Mariah Carey – were enough to save VH1’s 2017 installment of the ‘Hip Hop Honors’ franchise from hitting a ratings sour note.

Read more below:

Viewership Final:  1.56 Million

The 2016 edition of VH1’s rebooted ‘Hip Hop Honors’ franchise, which honored the “queens of Hip Hop,” raked in a whopping 3 million viewers – the highest in the show’s history.  And, though the 2017 version (dedicated to “90’s Game Changers”) had high hopes, it only secured half of that viewership.

See the demographic details below (thanks to ShowBuzzDaily):

The last time the series pulled a viewership this low was in 2008 when approximately 1.1 million viewers tuned in.

Honestly I had no idea this was coming on smh. Missy killed it though with her performance, I’ma need her to TOUR foreal after the superbowl that was half the promo to take advantage of and literally come back for female hip-hop.

And that’s Mariah’s Fault? Not Jermaine? Not Missy? Not any of the other Honored Folks? Rashaad have Several Seats Cunty, Its amazing that the YOUNGER G_AYS seriously forget that Whitney/Mariah/Celine/Anita/Janet paved the way for these young girls (Rihanna/Beyonce/Selena/etc). Have some respect.

Paved the way? It´s not only that mariah/Whitney/Celine paved the way. It´s that nobody after them has come close to their success and monumental appeal, except for Adele maybe.

Who is even talking about this? This site is truly washed up

I knew it was going to be some b******* when Mary J. Blige wasn’t honored and TLC, SWV, BBD, Bobby Brown & Jodeci weren’t in attendance and performing.

They did a 90s tribute, and had no SWV (They were way more hip-hop than Xscape), no mention of Aaliyah, and it should have been Mary instead of Mariah. & it was severely lacking in star power. This is the third time that they honored Missy…. Let it go!!!!!!!

Mary didn’t do for Hip Hop what Mariah did for Hip Hop….which was make it a staple of POPular music!

LOL! Good. Next year they should put a little more into crafting a worthy lineup and honorees. No one wanted to no damn Mariah Carey. They got the ratings they deserved.

What´s the point of reporting every pucking show getting less and less ratings each year as other available options keep growing? It´s nobodys fault.

I liked Mariah and Missy’s performances most. I loved Missy’s intro rising up out of the water!! I haven’t been impressed with Xscape’s return, but I’d buy a seat on their tour just to see Monica open and then leave after that, lol.

If.you look at the time frame and what was on during the hour and what the show had to go up against it would pull in poor numbers , for.one the NFL Regular Season Was On At 8:15 which probably runs for two to three hours so most of the viewing went to that than you have LLHH , Real housewives etc , before you start trying to talk about the ratings show receipts from when the ratings were high and shows it had to go up against than

It was a bad time. There is way too much going on in the world right now. Trump is F-ing up everywhere and everything. Maybe next year it will be better.
Everybody loves Lil Kim, Missy, Trina, and Mariah

There wasn’t enough promo for it. I knew martin was being honored, but no one else.
