The mishandling of Lady GaGa‘s ‘Do What U Want’ remains one of modern music’s biggest injustices.

Released last November, the cut found favor in its original form as a duet with R. Kelly. Yet, when no supporting video arrived, not even a remix with Rick Ross or a stellar duet with Christina Aguilera could reverse the song’s fortunes.

Indeed, though reaching #9 in the UK and #13 on the US Hot 100, mass consensus was that the song could easily have been a mega-hit had it not been marred by the melee within the singer’s camp (see: departed managers, messy roll-out).

Still, the DJ White Shadow number appears to be the gift that keeps giving. For, today saw a new solo version placed for sale on iTunes Spain as part of an NRJ compilation.

The latest incarnation of the ‘ARTPOP’ track features re-worked lyrics (which were performed by Aguilera on their remix).

So what are you waiting for?

During Destiny’s Child‘s ground-breaking reign, the ladies firmly established themselves as a “supergroup”.

By no means editorial rhetoric, each member brought a brand and strand of unique that, when fused together, delivered dynamite results.

Yet often under-valued is the fact that each of Destiny’s divas are also solo forces in their own right.

Of course the blockbuster success of a certain mononymously named member has cemented this in some regard, however the abilities of the trio’s remaining pillars are rarely spotlighted or celebrated.

As such, in kicking off our new Top 5 series, That Grape Juice present…Kelly Rowland’s Top 5 Solo Performances

“Nothing left to prove.”

Unfortunately, the above stands a myth pushed by fans of many a seasoned act when forced to explain a hiccup in said star’s career.

With sales garnered in the past oft used to defend mistakes made in the present, recent years has seen one too many veterans make the mistake of believing this, only to see their legacies tarnished by ego-fuelled eras launched by albums that fail to hold a light to the very material they believe saw them have…“nothing to prove.”

Now, after watching the likes of Michael Jackson and Madonna reach fresh career heights well into their 40s, fans of fellow icon Mariah Carey find themselves questioning the strategy employed by her management to push her brand new album.

A strategy, that they believe has seen them fail to secure the support of the general public in time for the album’s May 6th release date.

Now peep one open letter penned by a member of her ‘Lambily’, urging her camp to “get their sh*t together”, and accusing them of exploiting the ‘Make it Happen‘ maestra.
