‘Top of the World’ singer Brandy has seen quite sometime pass since she could effectively proclaim such. And, while there’s no denying the last decade has not been as kind to the soulful songstress as her 90s hey day (see: failed albums, label drama, personal drama), if the new ‘On My Own’ documentary is anything to go by, Ms. Norwood may be poised for a comeback.
Her meteoric rise and (equally as meteoric) fall are detailed and narrated in a way like never before – by the singer herself.
Things really do appear to have come full circle for a certain Kelly Rowland.
It’s almost 4 years to the day that the songbird unleashed her sophomore set ‘Ms. Kelly’ on the marketplace. As history goes; political and managerial mishaps unfortunately sunk that ship. As such, Rowland was seemingly cast to a fate as the lesser child of Destiny.
Fast forward to today, and the climate looks altogether different for the singer. Having severed ties with manager Mathew Knowles in 2009, her career has climbed from strength to strength. Indeed, the time since then has seen her notch up heightened success Internationally, land a role as a judge on the UK’s X Factor, and – perhaps most notably – score her biggest Stateside hit to date with the sizzling ‘Motivation’.
Hoping to legitimate this success, the 30 year old lined up an all-star cast of songwriters and producers to craft her third studio album ‘Here I Am’.
With past efforts not hitting the commercial strides they, perhaps, should have, will it be third time lucky for the songstress?
Mary J. Blige may be one of music’s reigning queens, but as her ‘Behind the Music’ special will reveal, her story has not exactly been a fairytale. The ‘Share MyWorld’ singer shared intimate details about her rise to fame from the Yonkers, NY Schlobohm Projects to prominence, a journey that crossed its fair share of speed bumps before breakthroughs (see: drug abuse, domestic violence, poverty).
See what other details the ‘My Life’ singer revealed about her life after the jump:
The latest line-up of the Sugababes assert their ‘Freedom’ on the first single to be lifted from the forthcoming Sony Music debut.
Despite already performing the song recently at T4 On The Beach, the studio version of the track is still M.I.A (a fact no doubt attributable to its ‘official’ release being almost two months away).
Perhaps in a bid to tide fans over, a lengthy snippet of the track has been released. Take a listen to what Amelle, Heidi, and Jade are serving up as their first original single below…
Last night saw the airing of Fox’s much anticipated US version of ‘The X Factor’. In true US fashion, the lengthy commercial, which features acting and footage from auditions, billed the show as larger than life.
Interestingly, ousted judge Cheryl Cole features no where and appears to have been erased from memory.
Anyway, check out Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, and LA Reid in action below. Let the hype machine begin…
Check out R&B commander Kelly Rowland, hot on the promo trail, chatting it up on Fuse TV’s ‘Talking To Strangers’. The Cee-Lo Green hosted show sees the ‘Crazy’ singer live up to that title in the creepy way only he can.
Can we say restraining order? See what we mean after the jump:
Last night (July 7), one of the most respected and hands down one of the richest men in hip-hp, rapper Jay-Z held a private listening party in New York City for his upcoming joint album with Kanye West, ‘Watch The Throne’. Hova released a few details including the slight possibility of a music video for the duo’s song ‘Lift Off’ featuring Beyonce, collaborations with Frank Ocean, his upcoming solo project, and more.
Fiercely critiqued for the handing of her ‘4’ project prior to release, the singer has staged the biggest of fightback’s in the wake of the album’s release. Indeed, following string of international performances, the 29 year old’s latest effort comes in the form an MTV documentary ‘Year of the 4’, which chronicles the promotional push for the project, interspersed with interview footage.
