After a 20 year absence from the retail landscape, Aaliyah‘s music made a triumphant return to the marketplace today.

The icon’s label Blackground Records has relaunched and is rolling out her material incrementally.

First up is 1996’s smash hit LP ‘One In A Million’ and, based on its out-of-the-gate performance, it’s clear its title is exactly how the masses see the late singer.

Jhene Aiko and Swae Lee have joined forces.

The pair have now linked for the song ‘In The Dark’ from the upcoming Marvel film, ‘Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings.’

In the song, Lee pleads with his ex-lover to give him the respect that he deserves in the relationship after he changed her life with the relationship.

As for Aiko, she asserts that she will never leave him or keep him guessing about her feelings.

Across the track, she sings:

Baby, my love unconditional / It’s about more than material / Don’t leave me hanging out in the cold / Somethings I don’t need to know, but don’t leave me in the dark.

Legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire has made its grand return.

This time, they have reimagined one of their classic songs – ‘You Want My Love’ – in the process.

The updated version of the tune is produced by Babyface and Demonte Posey and features rising singer-songwriter Lucky Daye.

‘You Want My Love’ fuses the groundbreaking musical sounds of the original and updates them with a modern sound. This is partly due to Daye, who makes the track his own, but still stays true to the first iteration.

This year is the 45th anniversary of the chart-topping single.

She’s back!

Lorde has returned with new tunes courtesy of her third studio album, ‘Solar Power.’

The record is four years in the making and introduces a new sound for the New Zealand-born singer-songwriter.

Produced by Lorde and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, ‘Solar Power’ is her first album since 2017’s ‘Melodrama.’

Speaking on the album, she said:

“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learnt to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”

It was preceded by the songs: ‘Solar Power,’ ‘Stoned At The Nail Salon,’ and ‘Mood Ring.’

While Aaliyah’s debut album, ‘Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number,’ has always been available via streaming, its critically acclaimed follow-ups – ‘One in a Million’ and ‘Aaliyah: The Album’ – have been locked in a vault courtesy of the record label on which they were released, the Barry Hankerson-helmed Blackground Records.

Years of calls to add the LPs to digital streaming services was finally answered earlier this month, with the official report indicating a piecemealed rollout that would see ‘Million’ unveiled Friday (August 20), Aaliyah-led soundtracks on September 3, ‘Aaliyah: the Album’ on September 10, her compilation albums on October 8, and her first posthumous album on an undisclosed date.

And while the singer’s estate has made clear they are not in favor of the revamped label’s decision to move forward with putting her music on streaming outlets, Blackground 2.0 is moving forward with ‘Million’ first – just three months ahead of its 25th anniversary.

Ahead of the October 1 release of her forthcoming 12-track EP, ‘Trying Not to Think About It,’ award-winning songstress JoJo is giving fans a taste of what they can expect via the set’s first single, ‘Worst (I Assume).’

Accompanied by a dramatic music video directed by Alfredo Flores, the new tune sees Jo croon about the negative impact keeping one’s guard up can have on the progress of a romantic relationship.

“I keep assumin’, you’re gonna do sh*t / That might break my heart so I keep up my guard / And I know it’s confusin’, how I put you through it / My past and my scars, still makе it hard / I assume, ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh / Always the worst, I assume,” she sings.
