In July 2015, at a mere 22-years old, Bobbi Kristina – daughter of Pop icon Whitney Houston and R&B veteran Bobby Brown – passed away (as we reported here).

Since then, her GRAMMY-award winning father has worked to keep her memory alive with the Bobbi Kristina Serenity House – a service for women and children in need of domestic violence education and crisis intervention.

On Sunday (July 26), however, he took to Instagram to commemorate the fifth-year anniversary of his daughter’s death.

From The Vault is back this week with a Pop classic from 2008.

Today’s pick comes courtesy of mother-to-be Katy Perry: it’s the smash hit ‘Hot n Cold.’

After zooming up the charts with breakout single ‘I Kissed A Girl’, Katy proved that she was no novelty act with ‘Hot’ — the second single from her second album ‘One Of The Boys.’

Written by Dr Luke, Benny Blanco and Max Martin, the cut was produced by the latter and was another success for Perry. Peaking at #3 in the US, #4 in both the UK and Australia, and reaching the top spot in Canada, it was also nominated at the GRAMMY for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 2010.

The song sees the artist confronting an undecided lover about how toxic his behavior is to their relationship.

Alan Ferguson directed the colorful video which presented Ms. Perry as a bride hunting down her love-interest all over town after he fails to say “I do” at the altar.

Katy’s parents make a brief cameo.

As of July 2020, the video is just under 20 million views away from hitting the billion mark.

Keeping it 100, we still can’t pin point the exact reason why Katy stopped ruling the charts the way she was during her first three album cycles.

From ‘Chained To The Rhythm’ to ‘Harleys in Hawaii,’ she has kept on churning out top tier bops, not too far removed from her most successful and acclaimed hits – qualitatively speaking.

Anyhow, here’s hoping Ms. Perry’s next project ‘Smile’ is one filled with yet more of her signature Pop bops, akin to ‘Hot N Cold.’

Roll on August!
