‘Scandal’ is back!

Following a longer than planned hiatus (to accommodate Kerry Washington‘s pregnancy), the show picks up right where it left off – with fireworks!

Forming a central part of the revived TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) block of programming, the political drama promises (and is already delivering) many an explosive twist and turn for its sixth season. Election, anyone?!

Today marks the global release of Mary J. Blige‘s thirteenth studio album ‘Strength Of A Woman’.

The set, which features contributions from the likes of Missy Elliott, Jazmine Sullivan, Kanye West, and DJ Khaled, arrives at a dramatic time for the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul.

Indeed, as widely reported, Blige is in the midst of a mucky divorce from former manager Kendu Isaacs.

During the promotional rounds for the LP, she’s cited the creation of the project as being therapeutic for her after years of secretly suffering in her marriage.

And one listen of the LP highlights the hurt but also the triumph of realising one’s worth.

Pop songstress Katy Perry‘s politically charged last single, ‘Chained to the Rhythm,’ may not have been linked to the type of ‘out of the box’ success she’s used to enjoying, but its follow-up – ‘Bon Appetit‘ featuring chart-topping rap group Migos – may be on track to sing another tune (commercially).

Being served alongside a healthy helping of controversy (click here to read more about that), listen to it inside and tell us if Ms. Perry will land a hit akin to the other big smashes that line her discography:

Katy Perry‘s beloved fanbase, affectionately called #KatyCats, have been clawing at the singer’s wig since she announced her new single, ‘Bon Appetit’ (due April 28), will feature chart-topping rappers Migos (not Ariana Grande as previous rumors suggested).

The Atlantan trio, best known for their #1 smash, ‘Bad & Boujee,’ found themselves on the bad side of some of their fans after they slammed singer/rapper iLoveMakonnen for coming out of the closet (click here to read more on that).  While the incident is nearly 3 months old, fans of the ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ singer have not forgotten – a feat evidenced by the host of fiery tweets aimed at her before the tune’s unveiling.

John Legend has been blazing the promo trail to ensure his latest single, ‘Surefire,’ is a surefire hit.

Earlier this week the Grammy-winning crooner was spotted at ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ where he rendered a smoking performance of of the tune, dished on its parent album (‘Darkness & Light’), and even gave dibs on landing a spot in TIME magazine’s latest “100 Most Influential People” issue.

Today, while in NY for the TIME 100 gala, Legend made a pit stop by ‘The Breakfast Club’ studio to not only plug his latest album and its supporting tour (which is set to kick off in early May), but also dish on his 1-year-old daughter, Luna, and share his thoughts on the latest political and social issues dominating headlines (i.e. Bill O’Reilly, Trump, etc.).

Kim Kardashian
is peddling the promo trail for the latest season of ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians.’

Her latest stop was the ‘Ellen’ show, where she opened up in earnest about her burglary ordeal in Paris last year.

As widely reported, Mrs Kanye West was was the target of an elaborate jewelry heist; one that quite literally threatened her life.

The aftermath of the drama is playing out on the current season of ‘The Kardashians’ (no comment), hence her discussing the matter with Ellen.

Hear the reality staple, who tears up, explain what went down in her own words…

While we’re not here for the brand of banal that the entire Kardashian clan represent, we definitely empathise when it comes to this.

Safety is no joke.

SZA unleashes a ‘Love Galore’ on the latest taste of debut album ‘Ctrl.’

The eclectic songbird has recruited Travis Scott for the scintillating number, which was produced by thankgod4cody and Carter Lang.

Both hypnotic and arresting, ‘Galore’ marks the first release of SZA’s under longtime label Top Dog Entertainment (TDE) and Sony’s RCA. The entities will jointly launch the songbird’s long-awaited LP this summer.

The song is a bodacious bop and the visual makes for an effective companion piece.

Fans of the late entertainer Whitney Houston have objurgated a new documentary which seeks claims she lived a double life as a bisexual woman.

Named ‘Whitney: Can I Be Me?‘, the documentary seeks to scratch beyond what its creators believe was the star’s surface and unearth what they say was her biggest secret…with help from her former employees.

The stylist Ellin Lavar claims in it…

I don’t think she was gay, I think she was bisexual.

Her allegation comes armed with a remark shared by a member of Houston’s security team Kevin Ammons.

He added:

Robyn (her best friend) and Whitney were like twins.

They were inseparable. They had a bond and Bobby Brown could never remove Robyn. He wanted to be the man in the relationship.

Fans have called for a boycott of the project as the star, who was married to the performer Bobby Brown, identified as a heterosexual woman.

Nick Cannon co-hosted the Wendy Williams Show today and got ‘wild n out’ for the entire hour.

Never one to hold his tongue, the media mogul made jaws drop when asked whether he’d date Nicki Minaj – longtime foe of his ex wife Mariah Carey.

In still being close friends with Mimi, it’s little surprise that he’s clearly Team Mariah. But it’s the way in which he answered the Hot Seat question put to him that has the Barbz buzzing.

See what we mean….

Nick may be a comic, but that was a shade grenade if we’ve ever seen one. Yikes!

Mary J. Blige, keen to thank her fans for their loyalty, surprised the world when she welcomed them into the deepest and darkest points of her marriage after announcing it had come to an end.

Today, after her ex Kendu Isaacs was accused of bullying her and using her money to fund projects and a lifestyle she did not benefit from, Mary may find herself forced to address claims that he has been sleeping with one of her best friends.

Sources spilled what they say everyone in the music industry has known for years in an interview with ‘Page Six’:

Everyone knew. Mary was the last to know, but it’s like, how do you not know?It was more like one of those things where you end up believing what you want to believe. But Mary had her suspicions. It’s really messed up and low to have it done to her that way. Had it not been for Mary signing her, investing time and money…Because no one cared about her music. You’d see them out in the studio together, having dinner without Mary. And then Mary would be at events with her, and it was awkward because it was obvious they were sleeping together.

Starshell had this to say about rumours she was “going down” with Mary’s man in 2012.

Once you start getting hotter and hotter, or people start talking about you more and more, everything’s like soap opera life. You’re always looking for something. If someone’s too clean or too good, they have to attach something to you, so for me, it was a compliment like, ‘Oh my God! People are talking about me. People are trying to find something.’ But I don’t know where or how that came about and it’s something that I have to take with a grain of salt.

Kendu is yet to respond.

However, his lawyer has on his behalf.

Allegations that have been made about Kendu are false, unfair, mean-spirited and sad. The court can deal with it if it’s relevant. He’s a very pleasant guy. He’s not abusive. He’s not the one going to the press. His goal is to reach an amicable resolution with her and [have] this commentary cease and desist. It doesn’t help any of them. It’s misleading. He cares about Mary. He wants her to do well.

Zayn Malik seems to have found himself on the harsher side of PartyNextDoor‘s amiable personality.

After they teamed up to release  the cut ‘Still Got Time‘, the pair learned that the general public had uncovered what appears to be bad blood between them after the hit-making Party unfollowed Zayn on social media and scrubbed his pages clean of any references to him.

Unconfirmed reports claim that the rift kicked off because the ‘Work’ writer is unhappy with ‘Time’s unfortunate run on the Billboard Hot 100 which saw it peak at #57.

Zayn still follows the chart-topping performer.

Tamar Braxton is back and is drawing on real life for her her new single ‘My Man.’

Viewers of the current season of ‘Braxton Family Values’ will have seen the singer and her sisters spilling on the controversial split of their parents.

And now Ms. She, Me, Her chronicles the narrative on the debut offering from her next studio album.

Emotionally charged, the song sees Tamar lamenting about a woman, known to and loved by her family, who goes on to “take” her man.

The TC and Corey Rooney penned production is the first release on the songbird’s new label Tamartian Land Records.

So what are you waiting for? Check it out below…

A home-run!

While it’s difficult to see how this would fit into the contemporary radio climate, it almost doesn’t matter because it’s strong enough to grab interest on its own accord.

Vocally, Tamar turns in a stunning performance and conveys each lyric with conviction.

‘My Man’ is also a welcome throwback thematically to the pre-Girl-Power era.

Sure, we’re all for the fist-pumping ‘Independent Women’ narrative that has been “a thing” since the early 00s. But it’s so populous that it’s almost frowned upon these days to sing about the trifling “other woman.” So much so that it dilutes the pool of topics female acts can pull from and largely sees them aiming their lyrical bow and arrows at the man. As such, there was something deliciously delightful to hear Tamar scold the “heifer” who stole her bae.

After the lukewarm ‘Calling All Lovers’ album, this has renewed our excitement about Tamar musically.

‘My Man’ is available to purchase on iTunes.
