‘Scandal’ is back!

Following a longer than planned hiatus (to accommodate Kerry Washington‘s pregnancy), the show picks up right where it left off – with fireworks!

Forming a central part of the revived TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) block of programming, the political drama promises (and is already delivering) many an explosive twist and turn for its sixth season. Election, anyone?!

The ‘Fast & Furious 8’ unites a number of notable names and so too does its soundtrack

Case in point ‘Hey Ma’ by Camilla Cabello, Pitbull, and J Balvin.

Already a hit in its Spanish language incarnation, the English version of the song  (along with a video) was unleashed today ahead of the soundtrack’s April 14th release.

It marks the latest high-profile move Cabello since departing Fifth Harmony in December.

Peep the visual for ‘Hey Ma’ below…

Cute video, although we expected more from the song given the fire that was the snippet floating around.

Still, it sounds rich in summer anthem potential. Whether it’ll become one will no doubt become apparent in the weeks and months ahead.

As ever, though…

Their partnership announced just ahead of Gaga’s show-stopping Super Bowl showing, two months later fans are finally invited to get their hands and eyes on the elegance of the full ad campaign (shot by fashion photography David Sims with styling by former ‘Vogue’ magazine editor Grace Coddington).

Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.

So, just as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature Chart Rewind – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.  This week we’ll reflect on ‘No Scrubs’ – the 1999 comeback hit of R&B super girl group TLC.

The first single from their third studio album, ‘FanMail’ [read our full ode to it by clicking here], the tune – written by fellow girl group Xscape‘s Kandi Burruss and Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, came as a departure for the ladies as it was the first time group member Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas sang lead vocals solely.  The departure was apparently quite welcomed as, just weeks after its release, the ‘Scrubs’ shot to #1 and remained there for four weeks.  Relieving the year’s other big comeback story, Cher, of her #1 run with her song ‘Believe,’ history would have it ‘Scrubs’ would be the group’s third run atop the Hot 100 [correction:  a previous version of this post incorrectly indicated it was TLC’s last run].

Tuck in below to see who joined them in the top 25 this week 18 years ago:

Shepherded by Kelly Rowland and Frank Gatson, the five-piece have been organically rising through the ranks.

Boasting a brand of talent and unity rarely seen in today’s microwaveable age, the ladies have garnered co-signs from the likes of Brandy and R. Kelly. The latter of whom enlisted them as special guests on his ‘Buffet Tour.’

That Grape Juice caught up with the ladies while they rehearsed for the Los Angeles stop on the sold-out trek.

Watch Kristal, Ashly, Gabby, Shyann, and Brienna in action above and below!
