Readers of That Grape Juice know what avid music lovers we are – especially of hits past.
So, just as our retrospective features ‘From the Vault’ and ‘TGJ Replay’ allow us the chance to re-spin the gems and jams of yesterday of one artist, our newest feature “Chart Rewind” – a variation of our current Retro Rewind assay – accedes salutes to an entire era of music history.
This week we’ll fast backward to 1991 to find music’s “vocal trinity” – Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion – dominating the chart’s top 5. Carey, whose third single ‘Someday’ dethroned Houston’s ‘All the Man That I Need’ (one of two #1 singles found aboard the songstress’s ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’ album), was joined by then-rising powerhouse vocalist Dion and her third single, ‘Where Does My Heart Beat Now.’
Together the trio led a slew of memorable hits, including entries by fellow chart-topping divas Gloria Estefan and Madonna. See who else joined the quintet in the top 25 this week 26 years ago:
