2016 has not exactly been kind to Lauryn Hill “the live act.”

After earning no dearth of detractors for her tendencies for tardiness or all around absence for her special appearances and concerts (see:  Grammys, Twitter, etc.), the ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ diva thought it a good thing to book a break from the road to let the heat cool down and, hopefully, align her energy with timeliness and punctuality.

In fact, if her official web site is anything to go by, Hill’s alignment process may very well be underway. For, with the turn of the month came news she’s set to hit the road again!  Curious to know if the former Fugees frontwoman will be on time coming to a city near you?

After a number of false starts courtesy of singles ‘FourFiveSeconds,’ ‘B*tch Better Have My Money,’ and ‘American Oxygen,’ Grammy winning pop diva Rihanna saw her 8th era finally get an official kickoff with the Drake-assisted single ‘Work.’  Skyrocketing to the top of the Hot 100 shortly after its debut, the Caribbean-kissed tune would at long last lead her faithful fans on the path to unlocking her octonary opus ‘Anti.’

Yet, while ‘Work’ won week after week atop the singles charts thanks to some serious sales and streaming, its parent album wasn’t exactly singing the same tune.  Living up to its apt titling by boasting a track list of some of her most sonically adventurous and daring work to date, initial critical and commercial reception almost seemed to reflect her fan base’s displeasure with the product and the long wait for its delivery.  Evidenced by a less than impressive #27 debut on the Billboard 200, the project’s promotional campaign didn’t help matters and left many-a-head scratched (see: free downloads, “platinum status,” etc.).

But, as officially counted streaming figures helped float the island beauty’s 8th project to the upper rankings of Billboard 200, fans continued to whine their waists to ‘Work’ with hopes its follow-up, ‘Kiss It Better,’ would be just what the doctor ordered to remedy the era’s shortcomings.

However, time would prove the suggestion a misdiagnosis:

Rihanna may not be accustomed to slaying stages, but there’s no denying that she knows how to razzle and dazzle in front of a camera.

Such is the case on the cover of W Magazine‘s September issue, where the 28-year-old stuns as a post-apocalyptic queen.

Lensed by Steven Klein, the edgy shoot is the latest of many lined up to promote the diva’s eighth studio album ‘ANTI.’

Slim on sales, the project has managed only 500k in the US since January. On the relative upside, it’s been a streaming force. Though, the differential between those willing to purchase the LP and those content to hit play only as part of a monthly streaming package is both glaring and telling. Especially in an era where her argued contemporaries such as Drake and Beyonce are managing both.

Will this new shoot help make ‘ANTI’s x2 “Platinum” plaque less of a punchline? Who knows.

What is is certain is that a fierce photoshoot awaits after the jump…
