In addition to serving as the executive producer for the soundtrack to the forthcoming Halle Berry film ‘Bruised’ (click here to view the trailer), Cardi B also contributes to the all-star tracklist which features the likes of City Girls, H.E.R., Saweetie, Latto, and more.

Her ‘Bruised’ feature ‘Bet It,’ which comes as a Latin-inspired cut that features interpolations of Camilo Sesto‘s 1972 hit, Algo de Mí,’ kicks off the 13-song soundtrack and houses lyrics that speak to her fighting spirit (a fitting addition to the LP’s tracklist given the film’s subject matter).

“I don’t see one, only Cardi B want it / Then I want some shit, ’cause I done some shit / Checks on like I just won some shit / Shoot up the charge like I gun some shit / Gotta read my deal, ’cause I run this shit,” Cardi raps on the Cool N Dre-produced number.

Summer Walker fans who are over the wait for new music from the songstress were thrilled when she recently announced ‘Still Over It’ – the sequel to her top-selling, 2019 debut album – will hit shelves next month (November 5).

Ahead of its arrival, Walker has unleashed ‘Ex for a Reason’ – the latest taste of music set to line the project’s tracklist.  Calling on assistance from City Girls star JT, the song’s lyrics see Summer serve a warning to the man in her life who’s intent on keeping his former flame around.

“That b*tch your ex for a reason though (Reason though) / So much, hard to take / Give a f*ck ’bout what she gotta say,” she croons on the sizzling mid-tempo.

“Good cake too sweet to be bitter / Swear, I can’t be triggered by someone who don’t know my worth,” she sings on the delectable track.

Although the cut was reportedly supposed to feature City Girls, Naija revealed:

‘Mulatto came right on time at the end when I thought I wasn’t going to have any features,’ she said. ‘Mulatto slid on her verse. I’m so happy I got a rapper on there.’

Doja Cat continues to flex her versatility.

Earlier this month joining fellow femcees City Girls on their new tune, ‘P*ssy Talk’ (as we reported here), now the 24-year-old ‘Say So’ star is showing off her vocal prowess on rising U.K. Pop star Anne-Marie‘s latest joint, ‘To Be Young.’

An emo-anthemic ode to being youth, restlessness, and recklessness, the tune acts as the second single from Anne-Marie’s highly anticipated sophomore album (due later this year).

“Take a punch, get back up,” she sings in the chorus. “Act a fool, don’t give a f*ck. We’re all a mess, but then I guess this is what it feels like to be young.”

Kiely SPECTACULAR promo photo copy

Some of you will remember Kiley Williams as one third of 3LW, and later The Cheetah Girls. With both groups now a figment of the past, Williams is looking to establish herself as a solo artist.

Though there has been a few cuts floating around the net, new track ‘Spectacular’ is reportedly set to the lead single from Kiley’s debut album. The song was produced by Mike City and written by Kiley herself.

I kid you not when I say this is hands-down one of the worse songs I have ever heard. From the cheap production, to the horrid vocals, to the sleazy lyrics, to Kileys inability to deliver her parts on que with the beat, this is an unmitigated audio disaster. It really is that bad.

It’s quite clear to see that after being bracketed as a ‘kids artist’ for so long, Kiley is attempting to re-brand herself as a sex kitten. However, it’s obvious she needs to work on much more before even thinking about what image she’s looking to adorn – the most necessary being her artistry. Listening to this really drives home exactly why she rarely ever sang on 3LW’s material and was relegated to the smaller parts. Put simply, her voice is weak; wafer-thin and lacking any character or ‘depth’. Usually artists in this predicament counter such shortcomings by excelling in other areas (see: Janet, Ciara), yet it’s difficult to see what of substance Kiley has to offer. If anything she’s really putting herself at a disadvantage with this border-line pornographic trash. For the uber sexual slant is one that works for female rappers, yet not so much for female singers.

In a nutshell, Ms. Williams would benefit from scrapping this nonsense and going back to the drawing board – especially if she hopes to attract any major label attention (she’s reportedly seeking a major deal and is currently signed to her own imprint Nine Lives Entertainment). Sigh…

Hit or Miss?

A new Beyonce cut in the form of ‘Ice Cream Truck’ surfaced today via the latest Tapemaster’s Inc mixtape. Though little is known as to when the jingly, nursery-rhyme inspired track was recorded, I’ll make an educated guess and say for the ‘Dangerously In Love’ recording sessions. I say this as the song sounds like it would fit well on the ‘Survivor’ album (the least impressive collective set of songs from the girls IMO, yet the most successful – say ‘hello’ to the industry of today LOL), which preceded Bey’s solo debut by little under a year. Vocals aren’t representative of what Bouncy can do today; while lyrically and production-wise I couldn’t imagine her singing something like this today either. Not an atrocity, yet far from great.

Randomness:
While I’ve always enjoyed the ‘Sasha’ side of Bey’s ‘I Am…’ LP, a few of the cuts from the slowed-down first disc are becoming favourites too (see: ‘Smash Into You’, ‘Broken Hearted Girl’).
