Break-out star Jennifer Hudson has landed a role in the forthcoming ‘Sex In The City’ movie:

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of “Sex and the City: The Movie” for New Line Cinema, which begins filming next week in New York.

Hudson will play “Louise,” the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Carrie Bradshaw” in the film based on the hit HBO comedy series.

The movie revolves around the four main characters’ lives in Manhattan four years after the series ended.

Hudson, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for “Dreamgirls,” recently completed production on Rowan Woods’ ensemble drama “Winged Creatures” starring Kate Beckinsale, Forrest Whitaker, Jackie Earle Haley and Dakota Fanning. Sony is distributing the film.

The former “American Idol” contestant is also in the studio working on her debut album for Arista Records, due for release in the first quarter of 2008.

Though the role doesn’t seem to be major, I can’t fault Jennifer for taking it. She’s really working overtime to establish herself beyond her ‘Dreamgirls’ success; starring in two films, alongside recording her long-awaited album. More power to her.

Your thoughts?

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson recently opened up about the direction of her highly anticipated album. Speaking with Fashion Rocks magazine, the ‘Dreamgirls’ star had the following to say:

“It’s not hip-hop,” she says firmly. “Let’s just say that. I don’t have anything against it, but it’s not the music that I like to sing. There’s some pop in there, and some R&B-soul, but,” she pauses for emphasis, “not hip-hop.”

Not sure how to read into this one. The quote makes it seem like she has a problem with Hip Hop, but I just see it as her telling it like it is. Nothing she’s done prior to now has been Hip Hop influenced, so why would her album be?

It was announced a few months ago that Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson had signed a deal with Avon to become the face of their best-selling fragrance ‘Imari’. The above pics are the first shots of Hudson’s campaign for the new Imari Seduction’ line (on sale in August). In other news, shooting for Jennifer’s new movie ‘Winged Creatures’ which also stars fellow Oscar winner Forest Whittaker has wrapped and the film is set to hit the big screen next year.

Kanye West – Can’t Tell me Nothing

This DJ Toomp produced track is scheduled to be the first single from Kanye’s upcoming third album ‘Graduation’. ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing’ is a decent mid-tempo song, which sounds a lot like a typical Kanye track i.e. sample-laden. Having said this, I’m unsure why they would select this as the first single; it doesn’t strike me as first-single material. I feel that he needs to come harder than this. It’ll be interesting to hear what the other material from ‘Graduation’ sounds like.

Cassie – Sometimes (ft. Ryan Leslie)
After the flopping of Cassie’s 2nd single ‘Long Way 2 Go’ and the backlash she received from her terrible live performances, I assumed she had disappeared into music obscurity. However, she has posted this new song ‘Sometimes’ on her Myspace page, stating that it’s the first completed track from her current studio sessions with producer Ryan Leslie. To my surprise, I’m actually feeling the track. It’s well-known that Cassie has very little vocal ability, but her delivery on this is better than I’ve heard from her before; Ryan Leslie’s production is on-point too. I doubt the track is likely to gain her anymore fans, but it’s still good nonetheless.

Jennifer Hudson – Special (ft. Papoose)
I’m not entirely sure whether this new Jennifer Hudson track is from her upcoming album or a mixtape; either way it’s good to hear some new material from the Oscar winner. ‘Special’ is a well-produced mid-tempo track, in which Hudson really showcases her power-house vocals. I do expect better from her, though, and hope that her album has more to offer.

What do you think of the New Songs?
Oscar Winner Jennifer Hudson has discussed some of the negative rumours that have surfaced since she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The post, which is featured on her MySpace page, seems real sincere and makes you wonder if people only build you up to bring you down:

hey guys. once again i think its time to address these rumors thats been going on about me. there are 3 main ones that has been floating around and i want to address them personally so you guys can know the truth

1.) i turned down a movie role for 3 million dollars because of a nude scene and i wasnt the person getting nude. nothing about that is true. i want to do my album. and my fans have waited so patiently for me to put out an album and i appreciate everyone of you and thats why im focused on putting out my first project. and yes i will continue to still do movies.

2.) all of the american idol stuff and burger king comments. i never said anything about if i was better at burger king i would not be there either. and yes i did say american idol was a stepping stone. which it is! i didnt mean it in a bad way. and as i said in my previous interviews american idol is a stepping stone because had it not been for them no one would of knew of a jennifer hudson to call to audition for dreamgirls! its like everything i say referring to the show gets twisted around and makes me look like im being arrogant and a “diva” since alot of people seems to have that opinion about me and that is not me at all. im not bothered by these rumors because im use to it but i do read the boards and i see my fans are upset by some of the negative rumors concerning me and that is what hurts me the most is to see people who care about me being impacted by all of this.

3.) the soul train awards show and me trying to sabotoge it by not showing up. only thing i can say to this is that i was there! and i appreciate being honored there just as much as i appreciated being honored at the all the award shows i attended. but once again im just writing this for my fans, supporters, and friends who want to know the truth. i am a person with feelings and although i have been warned that things like this would happen to me, and since i am new to this let me be the first to tell you that i have sat back not to long ago just like you guys and read things about my favorite artist and let me tell you since im experiencing this first hand you guys cant believe everything you read because its not true. o one more thing. im grateful for all my blessings and i thank God for it everyday and no amount of fame will ever go to my head and make me think that im better than anyone because we are all equal. and as quickly as God gave everything he has given me he can take it away!

LeToya – Nothing For Me

This unreleased Toya track was produced by Mike City (Brandy, Jamie Foxx). I can see why this was left off her album; the beat is crazy but the track just isn’t anything special. Still worth a download though.{Link Removed As Requested}

Brandy – Just Like Tommy

With all that is going on with Brandy, I wasn’t expecting any new material from her for a while. Nonetheless, Just Like Tommy is a great track…not album material but still good. It has a neo-soul vibe to it, something she hasn’t done in the past.

Omarion – Icebox (ft. Usher)

This remix of Icebox premiered on Hot 97 a few days ago and features none other than Usher. I was kinda surprised by the Usher feature as many see Omarion as one of many Usher imitators. Like the original, this version is HOT.

Paris Bennet – I Will

Former American Idol contestant Paris Bennet is to release her debut album ‘Princess P’ in April and this track will be featured on the set. The inspirational song includes a mass choir and Paris really delivers on the vocals.

Jennifer Hudson – And I Am Telling You (ONLY Live Performance) (AUDIO)

I know I posted the link to the video a last week, but here is the audio of this one-off live performance of the track. Jennifer nailed it.

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson wowed her industry contemporaries at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy party a few weeks back with an exclusive performance of ‘And I Am Telling You’. I hear that she is not allowed to perform the song live for contractual reasons.
Anyway she absolutely nailed it. Check it out….
Black Hollywood was out in full force last night to celebrate with Oscar nominee, Jennifer Hudson at her Pre-Oscar Party. Celebs in attendance included Jamie Foxx, Janet Jackson (looking on-point!) and Serena Williams. The party looked to have been alot of fun. Where was Beyonce?

Golden Globe Winner and Oscar Nominee, Jennifer Hudson has made history by being only the 3rd black woman to be featured on the cover of reknown fashion magazine Vogue. The two before her being Oprah and Halle Berry.

HOWEVER

The people over at Vogue must be on that crack because this cover is terrible…really bad. The picture is unflattering and it makes me wonder whether they only featured her to capitalise on her success.

The inside pics are better though:

Vanity Fair toasts to the award season – with a little help from Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Murphy, Renée Zellweger and more in their 26th annual Hollywood Issue.

With the highs and lows of the Oscar nominations still a hot topic, the feature is notable in its timing – for it spotlights many of the ceremony’s favorites. Some of who were nominated and others who…weren’t.

For a bride-to-be with new movies and music on the horizon, the smiling photo above would be an expected depiction of ‘Spotlight’ singer Jennifer Hudson.  Unfortunately, recent times have seen everything but.

As has been plastered across many a headline, the singer has been encased in a courtroom with hopes of seeing the man accused of brutally murdering three members of her family in a 2008 incident brought to justice.

Today, she got her wish…
