Fans of groundbreaking 70’s sitcom ‘Good Times’ were stunned when reports surfaced the show’s star Ja’net Dubois (famous for her role as “Willona”) was found dead in her California home Tuesday (February 18).
An Emmy-winning actress, Dubois (aged 74) was also a celebrated singer-songwriter and was credited with penning the theme song to another groundbreaking 70’s sitcom – ‘The Jeffersons.’
As fans, admirers, and former co-stars of her many television projects extended their condolences to the late screen legend’s family, Pop queen Janet Jackson – who shared screen time with Dubois on ‘Good Times’ when she portrayed her adopted daughter “Penny” – joined the chorus by sharing her sympathy on social media.

Seventeen years after taking home the Best Original Song Academy Award for his chart-topping ‘8 Mile’ soundtrack hit, ‘Lose Yourself,’ rapper Eminem stunned viewers at last night’s Academy Awards when he performed the tune for the first time at the ceremony (February 9).
Accompanied by an orchestra (as we reported here), the energetic showing ended with a rousing standing ovation – a response also gifted to the stirring performance rendered by Tony/Grammy/Emmy-winner Cynthia Erivo. The 33-year-old, on hand as a nominee in this year’s Best Original Song and Best Actress categories for her work on the biographical film about Harriet Tubman, brought the house down with her soaring rendition of ‘Stand Up’ from the movie’s accompanying soundtrack.
Yet, while she walked away empty-handed from the venue (losing in both categories), peruse of the most updated iTunes sales charts are proving her a winner there.

On the eve of what could be her inaugural Academy Award win for the stunning portrayal of civil rights pioneer Harriet Tubman, Emmy/Tony/Grammy winner Cynthia Erivo‘s building buzz for assuming the role of another pivotal figure in Black History: Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.
Ahead of the late 2020 premiere of the musical monarch’s biographical feature film starring Academy and Grammy award-winner Jennifer Hudson (click here to see the teaser), National Geographic announced ‘Genius: Aretha’ – an eight-part series dedicated to the late musical icon.
Premiering over four consecutive nights beginning Memorial Day 2020, the anthology installment comes as the first-ever authorized limited series about the diva. According to NG it will “explore Franklin’s musical genius and incomparable career — and the immeasurable impact and lasting influence she has had on music and culture around the world.”
With secured music rights to the legend’s catalog, the flick will see Erivo flex her acting and musical muscles in ways viewers have yet to see. Look inside for a glimpse of what’s to come:

Ricky Gervais hosted the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards, which aired live tonight on NBC (January 5).
The annual affair, often viewed as a precursor to the Academy Awards, honored the previous year’s best and brightest film and television stars.
Tuck in below to find out who walked away with the coveted trophies from the showing at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.
Despite garnering a whopping 16 nominations at the 71st annual Primetime Emmy Awards earlier this year, Ava DuVernay‘s Netflix miniseries – ‘When They See Us’ – received no recognition from The Hollywood Foreign Press Association when the organization announced the nominees for the 2020 Golden Globes on Monday (December 9).
The film, which tells the true story of five African American teens wrongfully convicted of the rape and assault of a jogger in New York’s Central Park in the late 80’s, was lauded by viewers and critics alike for its gripping content and outstanding acting. Now, thanks to the apparently none-too-impressed Golden Globes committee’s omission of the title from their list of nods, many are taking to social media to express their disappointment for its absence and the overall lack of racial diversity among this year’s class of nominees.
