The 50th Annual NAACP Image Awards aired tonight and, as always, celebrated the year’s best and brightest offerings from actors, singers, directors, producers, and other Hollywood heavy hitters of color.
Saluting achievements and advancements across multiple entertainment genres and formats (television, music, film, and writing), this year’s milestone ceremony at LA’s Dolby Theater brought with it sizeable wins for Beyonce and Jay-Z – who took home the Entertainer of the Year and President Award honors respectively.

Steve Harvey has been labelled a sell-out and a “lowly coon” by critics who detest his suggestion that black entertainers should prioritise money over integrity when handling business.

This, a suggestion he offered the beloved actress Mo’Nique when she made her way to his successful talk show to discuss the inequality she faces as an Oscar-winning black woman in Hollywood.

Are we the only ones who love when awards’ season is in full swing?

With the Grammys and Golden Globes in our rearview, next up is the NAACP Image Awards.

Unveiling its full list of nods today, the prestigious award honors actors, actresses, singers, authors, and activists of color, in and out of the entertainment industry, via its 50th annual presentation this year live on TV One.

Music royals such as Beyonce, JAY-Z, and Janet Jackson all landed noms in the recording categories, as did  Grammy-winning newcomers such as H.E.R and Ella Mai.

Elsewhere Netflix and HBO lead in the TV categories.

Lady Gaga‘s stellar performance in the latest telling of the ‘A Star is Born’ story saw her bag the award for Best Actress at last night’s Critics Choice Award.

Quite interestingly, the performer must share the gong with the seasoned actress Glenn Close who also won the award for her performance in ‘The Wife’ because it was a tie.

Toni Braxton made headlines last week when she took to Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s web talk show, ‘Red Table Talk,’ to discuss her highly publicized divorce from Mint Condition star Keri Lewis after 12 years of marriage.

Insinuating the split was due to her diagnosed illnesses (see: lupus, microvascular angina, etc.), the recount of the failure of her first marriage ignited a firestorm of criticism against her singer/songwriter ex-husband.

“I felt shallow because my ex-husband and I broke up for money issues,” she stated. “I found out I had lupus at the time, I couldn’t make money because I had lupus, I had to cancel the show. That was my personal contribution to the marriage failing, because who wants to take care of a person who’s sick all the time?”

Tired of the hoopla, Lewis took to Instagram to defend himself and even offered details surrounding the couple’s prenuptial agreement. Read his lengthy statement inside:
