As reported, the legendary Clive Davis hosted his annual Pre-Grammy Award party last night in LA. Two of the night’s big performers included Fantasia and UK singing sensation Leona Lewis. Fantasia performed ‘I’m Here’, a song from her stint as Celie in the Broadway adaptation of ‘The Color Purple’ (she recently wrapped up her time on the show) and Leona belted out her record breaking single ‘Bleeding Love’. Check out their performances below:

Fantasia – ‘I’m Here’

Woah! She really took it to CHURCH on that one. She S-A-N-G! Could have done without some of the vocal rifting at the end, but who cares, it’s Fantasia. Good stuff.

Leona Lewis – ‘Bleeding Love’

Great performance. I felt proud of her; having watched her get her big break on the X-Factor and now performing (and nailing it) in front of her industry contemporaries, it really hit me that she is destined for big things – and deservedly so. She is an amazing talent.

Whitney Houston At Clive Davis Party ‘The Voice’ Whitney Houston made an appearance at her mentor Clive Davis’ annual Pre-Grammy party last night, which took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California. She looks better each I see her. Whitney, also photographed with Davis and Def Jam label head LA Reid below, was one of a host of artist that came out for the famed event. Other attendees included Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Fergie and Ashanti.

Mariah Carey UpdateIt is being reported that Mariah Carey is shooting the video for her new single ‘Touch My Body’ this weekend in an undisclosed location in Los Angeles. According to Mariah Daily, Brett Ratner – who also directed the clips for Mariah’s ‘It’s Like That’ and ‘We Belong Together’ – will serve as the vid’s director. ‘Touch My Body’ will be hitting radio outlets next Tuesday (February 12th), so we should be hearing it any time from now.
With Brett Ratner at the helm of directing duties, I’m anticipating the vid being pretty good. Will the song, most importantly, be any good though? I guess time will tell.

Former Making The Band choreographer, Laurie-Ann Gibson, performed her debut single ‘Addictive’ on BET’s 106 & Park earlier this week. I feel kinda bad for the following because of what she says at the end, but that was a mess. Tell a lie, the ‘performance’ was borderline ok – I mean, we all know she can dance – but that song is the absolute pits. Garbage at it’s worst. Stick to the dancing, I say.

Rihanna Covers Cosmopolitan Another day, another Rihanna magazine cover. This time the Bajan beauty features on the cover of the March issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. Yes, she looks great, but it’s like: what is there left for her to actually say anymore? She’s pimped her album for all it will do (kudos to her and Def Jam), but it’s time to call it a day (for now).

Janet Jackson Tidbits

With the release of Janet Jackson’s much-hyped ‘comeback’ LP ‘Discipline’ just three weeks away, preparation for the album’s next single have been put into play. The video shoot for one of the two new singles, ‘Rock With U’, has been booked for next week and is set to be directed by UK director Saam Farahmand – who also shot the clip for Janet’s ‘Feedback’. I’m really hoping a video for her other single ‘LUV’ is shot soon as well. Right out the gate, ‘LUV’ is performing very well on urban radio and is the most hit-worthy track of the two IMO. {Source}
In other Janet news, an email sent out to fans and the press by her ‘people’ read:

“Janet is coming to Times Square February 26th and she plans on leaving a big impression! I can’t give away all of the details just yet but I can say the day will begin with a performance on Good Morning America… LIVE FROM THE NOKIA THEATRE!!!”

It seems Janet’s promo will kick into overdrive come release of the album, not to mention the buzz going around about a ‘surprise’ performance at the Grammy’s tomorrow night.

Danity Kane stopped by TRL earlier this week to promote the latest season of Making the Band, as well as their forthcoming album ‘Welcome To The Dollhouse’ (due March 18th). The girls’ performed an impromptu rendition of their new single ‘Damaged’. Though not perfect, they got me with this one. As one of those not really liking the song, this has me feeling it a lot more. Or maybe it’s the fact that I’ve found a way to get my Making The Band fix online (UK’ers know it’s yet to start over here just yet). Either way, great performance.

Rappers Lil Wayne and Birdman performed ‘Pop Bottles’ yesterday on the ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ show. In other Lil’ Wayne news, he shot the video for ‘Lollipop’ – the first single to be lifted from his forthcoming ‘The Carter III’ album – in Las Vegas recently.

West & Winehouse Added To Grammy Performers Grammy front-runner’s Kanye West and Amy Winehouse have been added to the list of performers at the big show on Sunday.
The Recording Academy, today, issued a press release confirming West, who is up for eight awards, will hit the stage (rumored to be tribute to his mother who passed in November).
As reported yesterday, Winehouse was denied a US visa; however organisers revealed the ‘Rehab’ singer, who is up for six awards, will perform live via satellite in a London studio. {Source}
I’m happy Amy will be able to represent herself and the UK in some capacity at the show. With both her and Kanye now on the bill, the Grammy’s are getting better and better. US visitors can catch the Grammy’s live this Sunday on CBS at 8pm / UK visitors can catch the show on ITV1 at 9pm on Monday 11th February (the next day).
