Grammy Awards 2008 Coverage

Published: Sunday 10th Feb 2008 by Sam
The 50th Annual Grammy Awards took place tonight at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. Muisc’s biggest stars were out in full force for the industry’s most prestigous event. Check out performances from the show below, as well as That Grape Juice’s take on them afterward:

The performances were a mixed bag for me:

Standouts IMO were Kanye West; I really moved by his performance of ‘Stronger’ and ‘Dear Mama’. I also was impressed by Amy Winehouse; clearly in good spirits, Amy showed why she is considered one of the best things to happen to the music industry. Alicia showed out at the end with her great performance of ‘No One’.

The highlight of the Beyonce / Tina performance, for me, was the lip synched intro. Now before the stans jump out at me lol, I respect both immensely for their contributions to the industry and would consider myself fans of them both, however the performance sounded a lot better on paper. I can’t put my finger on why, but I was left distinctly underwhelmed.

Passable / so-so performances included Rihanna and Fergie; although the latter surprised me with her live vocals.

Where the hell was much-speculated Janet Jackson performance? Michael too, for that matter. With both dropping albums in the coming weeks, a serious promo opportunity has been blown.

All in all, I can’t help but be left with a salty taste in my mouth after tonight’s show. Definitely a case of the show not matching up to the hype that preceded it.

What do you think of the performances?

I really lik eBeyonce but I think she needs to cover up. Come on you are talented and don’t need to be naked to sing. Respect yourlself and your boyfriend to that matter. No wonder he hasn’t married you yet!

Beyonce is Talented no matter what she wears. Tina Turner wore clothes simlar to beyonce back in her day and nobodys complaining, and shes a legend. so stop hatin on what beyonces wearing and worry about something else. beyonce is a soon to be legend and shes s*** while doin it

I loved Kanye’s performance! Foo Fighter were great! Beyonce and Tina, I was not excited over, because “Proud Mary” is so done. Beyonce has performed this song twice before. I wished they would done something else. Much respect to Tina Turner, she is a true original.

bee and tina were the best of all ..the intro was amaazing! it wasnt lipsynced or nothing.bee was backing off a little so that she wont out do tina with her wild sasha style.

Michael Jackson told the Grammy people days ago he wasn’t going to appear, and so they pulled a Thriller tribute they had planned altogether.

Low if you ask me, regardless of whether he came or not, Thriller deserves to get recognition on the 50th Grammy show – it inspired 99% of the people in the crowd.

    Anyways,

Kanye was the best performance of the night – awesome!

Amy can do so much better, but hey.. she’s on the road to recovery, can’t expect her to be back to her brilliant self right away. I was just really happy to see her so happy.

She got robbed btw, she should’ve won album of the year.

AMy did not deserve album of the year. Sorry. She already won like 4 awards. Honestly, beyonce’s performance with TIna was good, the author of this site needs to realize she was 60 years old. Sometimes it feels like he gets his personal views on people, a lil too much. I think Alicia Keys was one of the best of the night. Amy was good, but i don’t think she was amazing like the rest of you say… rihanna did pretty good, i think she is slowly getting better. I like fergie when she started belting out “finally”… i think her album and songs deserved to be nominated
