It appears the folk over at Bad Boy finally decided to hook Day26 up with a much needed new single in the form of ‘Since You’ve Been Gone’, the video for which premiered recently. Luckily for the guys, the song is strong enough to carry this, otherwise, run-of-the-mill clip. The Dawn (from Danity Kane) cameo was a nice touch, though. With the track being one of the strongest cuts from their self titled debut, here’s hoping it fares better than first single ‘Got Me Going’ which peaked at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100.

What do you think of the video?

Mariah & Nick's Marriage On The Rocks?Reports are stating that Mariah Carey’s month and a half marriage to Nick Canon is already in danger of collapse:

Mariah Careyā€™s marriage wonā€™t last more than six months, according to friends. The 38-year-old singer, who wed rapper Nick Cannon in April, is so demanding her new husband wonā€™t be able to cope with her diva-like behavior.

One pal close to Mariah revealed 27-year-old Nick has become a source of ridicule for her friends and associates. The source told Life and Style Weekly magazine: ā€œI give the marriage six months, tops. I canā€™t see it lasting.

Nick does whatever Mariah wants him to – heā€™s like her puppy. It seems like he spends more time in the stores with Mariahā€™s credit card than he does with Mariah herself. Mariahā€™s assistants and friends call him ā€˜Whipped Nickā€™ behind his back. They have little respect for him because he wonā€™t stand up for himself.

However, a friend of Nickā€™s has vehemently denied the relationship is already in trouble, insisting Nick and Mariah are perfect for each other. The pal said: ā€˜Mariah needs someone to dote on her.ā€™ā€ {Source}

I must be the only person who still hasn’t swallowed the idea of the marriage to begin with; just so random. Anyway, I can’t say this wasn’t expected. I mean, come on now…

Our good friends over at Rap-up.com recently caught up with hit-maker Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins and quizzed him on his contribution to two of the year’s most anticipated releases – Beyonce and Ciara’s forthcoming albums. Check out the pretty insightful mini-interview below:

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I kinda felt a little short-changed with ‘B’ Day’, so I’m interested to see what Beyonce’s new record will be serving up; as with all her releases, a new Beyonce LP is an event in itself, so roll on November lol. More over though (at this point), after Tuesday’s night’s BET Awards, I’m amped for Ciara’s triple-disc ‘Fantasy Ride’; I really feel this will be her legit ‘evolution’ as opposed to to the ‘.5’ treatment her last album delivered.

So in view of that…

Whose album are you most looking forward to: Beyonce or Ciara?

Rock Witchu Tour Selling Well; Madonna Tidbit In news that will both please fans and silence some critics, the NY Daily News is reporting that Janet Jackson’s Live Nation ‘Rock Witchu Tour’ is performing well at the ticket box office:

Madonna’s ticket sales may have gotten off to a slow start, but Janet Jackson’s are doing fine, claims Live Nation, their concert-tour company.

Jackson is hitting the road to promote her latest CD, “Discipline”, which hasn’t fared well on the charts since its February release.

But hopes are still high for Jackson’s tour at Live Nation, where the chairman left last week after criticism that he was paying stars too much for the return. “She’s a tour record-breaker, having grossed more than $100 million in her career”.

So why is Jackson apparently selling well while only half of the seats at Madonna’s L.A. show have been sold? Her tickets are cheaper than Madonna’s, ranging from $46 to $126 at the Izod Center in New Jersey, for example, where Jackson performs Oct. 17. And unlike Madonna, who almost always favors her new material in shows, Jackson is willing to do the fan-favorite hits.

“We’re very happy with the ticket sales,” said a Live Nation spokesman. “She hasn’t complained about us. Thank God.”

It’s great to see Janet’s Live Nation ‘situation’ working out well at this early stage. There are murmurings that she may sign a similar ‘360’ deal similar to that of Jay-Z, Madonna etc with the company should the tour do well.

New Pussycat Dolls Promo Pic Check out this new promotional shot for the Pussycat Dolls sophomore effort ‘Doll Domination’ (due September 16th). They look great; though, it irks me slightly that the member on the far right (Lord knows I couldn’t tell you her name even if I tried) is being made to look more and more like former member Carmit Bachar (the red head).

Kimora & Russell Divorce: The Latest Things are heating up in the divorce proceedings between Russell Simmons and soon to be ex-wife Kimora Lee:

Each of the hip-hop mogulā€™s two girls with estranged wife Kimora Lee is set to receive $20,000 a month in child support. Thatā€™s a total of $480,000 each year for kids who already live in a palatial $24 million estate in Saddle River, N.J. Their mom, a former model, is CEO of the Baby Phat fashion house. The agreement shows that until 2019, Russell Simmons will continue payments for Ming Lee, now 8, and, until 2022, for Aoki, now 5.

Kimora Lee, 33, filed for divorce in March after nine years of marriage. Sheā€™s asking for primary custody of the girls and that Russell, 50, be granted ā€œreasonable child visitation ā€¦ accompanied at all times by the childrenā€™s nanny and security personnel.ā€ {Source}

I guess any talk of a peaceful parting have kinda gone out of the window with this one.

No Beyonce = No Ratings For BET It appears Beyonce’s no-show at Tuesday night’s BET Awards turned viewers off:

The African-American targeted networkā€™s annual awards show, which honors the best performances in music, sports and movies, drew 5.8 million viewersā€”the smallest viewing audience for the eight-year old franchise since 2004, according to Nielsen Media Research. Last yearā€™s show, which featured performances by Beyonce, 50 Cent and TI, drew more than 6.3 million viewers. {Source}

So the dust has settled and the BET Awards 2008 are now, but a memory. In my opinion the show was a so-so affair that was easily outshone by last yearā€™s ceremony.

The much hyped Beyonce, Usher and Lilā€™ Wayne joint performance proved to be a non-event, as, even though the ā€˜DĆ©jĆ  vuā€™ singer was spotted in Los Angeles just the day before, she was no where to be seen during the award show itself. In its place, we were treated to a, somewhat, decent solo showing of ā€˜Love In The Clubā€™ by Usher. However, the entirely lipsynched performance lacked that extra something that would have made me remember it after they cut to the next segment. For an artist whoā€™s place as the top male R&B artist is continually called into question by supporters of younger stars, this was not a good look ā€“ at all.

Elsewhere, the showā€™s lack of ā€˜that extra somethingā€™ was heightened by run-of-the-mill performances by Young Jeezy and surprisingly Kanye West, Lilā€™ Wayne, T-Pain and, to a lesser extent, Nelly (both Ciara and Fergie were worthwhile ā€“and much needed- additions to his set). None of these performances engaged me long enough to warrant anything other than the ā€˜whatā€™s the next performanceā€™ treatment.

Hot mess of the night, no doubt, went to Miss Keyshia Cole. From the absolutely horrid vocals (a pitchy, strained and screeching atrocity), I was left wondering if sheā€™d taken ā€˜anythingā€™ before the show with her bizarre choreography. Honestly though, what was that? I didnā€™t know whether to laugh or feel sorry for her (if she was serious). I think I decided on something right down the middle. Randomness: Lilā€™ Kim looked good, didnā€™t she? Moving onā€¦

On a more positive note, brace yourselves peopleā€¦.I actually, dare I say it, kinda enjoyed Rihannaā€™s performance of ā€˜Take A Bowā€™. Granted the song is still and always will be the pits IMO, in her defence she did sound exactly like the record, which surely must count for something. Randomness: Did anyone else spot Chris Brown in the audience singing along?

Alicia Keys brief 90ā€™s group revival was a great addition to her pretty decent showing of ā€˜Teenage Love Affairā€™. Watching this was such a contrast to the sleep-inducing piano-strapped Alicia performances we used to be subject to not too long ago. All the groups did their thing as well; SWV with ā€˜Weakā€™, the original line-up of EnVogue (good on Dawn!) and TLC. I will excuse the latter ā€“ namely T-Boz – for sounding flat-out shot and looking kinda depressed on stage, as the premise of the performance was so great and offered one of the few moments of genuine surprise during the 3 hour telecast.

Iā€™d have to say performance of the night, for me, is a toss-up between Ne-Yoā€™s near-flawless performance of ā€˜Closerā€™ and Chris Brown and Ciaraā€™s show-stopping rendition of ā€˜Take You Downā€™. Itā€™s safe to say Ne-Yo was the wildcard when it came to male performances going into the show , considering both Usher and Chris Brown were also billed. However, to say he staked his claim as a performer would be an understatement. Put simply, Ne-Yo wiped the floor with Usher and most other performances tonight; who the hell knew he could move like that? Great stuff.
I know many were shocked, as was I, to see Ciara join Chris Brown on stage for ā€˜Take You Downā€™. What took place in the minutes that lay ahead, no doubt, has people talking. Whatever oneā€™s view, there is no denying that they delivered one hell of a performance. As an avid fan of both Michael and Janet, I really did see, in Chris and Ciara, the new generationā€™s leaders in terms of the ā€˜all-round performerā€™. Randomess: LOL at how they kept cutting to Rihanna.

All in all, despite its few (and far between) moments of greatness, this yearā€™s show was somewhat of a let down in comparison to last year (See: Beyonce & Kelly Rowland 07 BET Award performance) and definitely lacked the jaw-dropping moments that are supposed to make such showā€™s un-missable. Whereas the BET Awards have trumped the VMAā€™s on a year in and year out basis IMO, watching this actually has me anticipating what MTV will be serving up come August / September.
