As Jennifer Lopez preps the release of her new album ‘Brave’, new promotional shots for the CD have surfaced. Jenny’s looking on-point! I do find it odd that with pics this good they managed to pick such a terrble front cover. ‘Brave’ drops October 9th.
Def Jam’s Fabolous premiered the video for his latest single ‘Baby Don’t Go’ on BET’s 106 & Park yesterday (September 12th). I’m really liking the song and the video is pretty good too. Fabolous really brought his ‘A’ game with his current album ‘From Something To Nothing’, it’s just a shame that he has yet to enjoy the commercial success he deserves. Still, here’s hoping this great single garners him another hit.
Ja Rule was interviewed in the current issue of Complex Magazine. The rapper spoke on the Jena 6 controversy, politics, 50 Cent and homosexuality. Ja’s comments on the latter, inparticular, have caught the attention of the mainstream press – some of whom have branded Ja, real name Jeffrey Atkins, ‘homophobic’. Check out quotes from the interview below:
On Congress & Homosexuality:
“…They got my man Doug Morris under fire and shit, they got him going down to go speak to Congress about hip-hop lyrics, are you fucking serious? There’s a fucking black kid right now about to get 25 years for having a fight with some white kids over hanging the nooses over the white tree, lets get to that. Let’s get into shit like that, because that’s what’s tearing up America, not me calling a woman a bitch or a hoe on my rap songs. And if it is, then we need to go step to Paramount, and fucking MGM, and all of these other motherfuckers that’s making all of these movies and we need to go step to MTV and Viacom, and lets talk about all these fucking shows that they have on MTV that is promoting homosexuality, that my kids can’t watch this shit. Dating shows that’s showing two guys or two girls in mid afternoon. Let’s talk about shit like that! If that’s not fucking up America, I don’t know what is.”
On 50 Cent:
“That’s the difference people don’t understand. Everyone talks about the beef I had with 50; he has beef with all types of rappers, but I’m the only rapper who went and handled my business and went and hollered at him man to man… And the moment I heard he had a record about me, I knew where he resided, I knew where he hung out, I went and seen and him. “Homie, you have a problem with me? What’s happening? You ain’t got to rhyme about it, I’m right here in front of your face.” So that’s how our situation took place, and I handled my business with 50 and 50 knows that. That’s why I’m such a threat to him, that’s why he doesn’t like me so much.” {Source}
Both Kanye West and 50 Cent performed and were interviewed together during 106 & Park’s ‘Clash Of The Titans’ special yesterday. Check out vids of their appearance below:
Kanye West – Big Brother (w/ Jay-Z Appearance)
50 Cent – I Get Money
Interview
Good stuff. As contrived and overhyped as this ‘battle’ has been, it stands as one of the biggest things to happen to Hip-Hop (and music in general) in a long while. First-day sales show Kanye to be out in front with a whopping 437,000 copies sold of his album ‘Graduation’. 50’s current sales tally for ‘Curtis’ stands at 310,000. Many are expecting Kanye and possibly 50 to be certified Platinum before the week is out. {Source}
New videos seem to be premiering all over the place as of late, the most recent being for Kanye West’s new single ‘Good Life’ (ft. T-Pain). The song is the third single to be lifted from Kanye’s ‘Graduation’ album – which is in stores now. I’m liking the video, as well as the song, and applaud Kanye for continuing to bring something ‘different’. On a side note, there really isn’t any escaping T-Pain is there?
Tyra Banks kicked off the third season of her hit talk show with an interview with Rihanna. The interview – which was recorded last month – was hilarious and Tyra left no stone unturned, hence the ‘Umbrella’ singer was grilled on the endless comparisons to Beyonce, her rumored relationship Jay-Z and her troubled family life. Though I’m by no means I fan of her music, she gives a great interview.
The above video of Kanye West was filmed by ET Insider following Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards. Evidently enraged, the rapper vented about feeling used by MTV and how it was ridiculous that he won no awards for the second year in a row. The rapper later announced that he’s boycotting MTV. Though he may have been justified in some of what he said, he’s lost points with me. I mean what was he thinking. Here’s Kanye, a Grammy Award winning artist, now whining about not winning a Moonman from MTV. It just doesn’t make any sense. He came across real dumb for that. Anyway, all is likely to be forgiven as many – including myself – are rooting for him to outsell 50 Cent this week.
Wyclef debuted his new video ‘Sweetest Girl’ (Dollar Bill) last night on BET Access Granted. Featuring Lil’ Wayne and Akon, the song is the first single to be lifted from the former Fugees star’s forthcoming album ‘The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant’ (due November 6th). I’ve had this great track on constant rotation for a while now and the vid is just as good. Wyclef may be on to a hit with this one.
MTV’s Tim Kash managed to catch up with Janet Jackson at boyfriend Jermaine Dupri’s post-VMA party on Sunday. The ‘All For You’ singer reaffirmed that she is still in the recording process for her as yet untitled new album – her Island/Def Jam debut. She also confirmed Ne-Yo’s involvement in the project.
Janet must be back in MTV’s good books, seeing as they didn’t give a damn about her last two albums. Anyway, is it me or does it seem Janet is trying to keep ‘hush hush’ about the project (“I’m trying to do me”)? With JD’s comment about the album coming “soon”, it’ll be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming months.
The much publicised chart battle between rappers 50 Cent and Kanye West begins today, as their albums – ‘Curtis’ and ‘Graduation’ hit stores across the US (both albums were released in Europe yesterday).
Having disbanded several years back, rap group Salt-N-Pepa are set to star in a new VH1 reality series. Check out the premise of the show below:
Salt is angry about being unappreciated when they were together and Pepa blames Salt for breaking up the group. Their lifestyles are also polar opposites: Salt has indeed found God and is living a quiet life in Long Island with her husband while Pepa is still the party girl and desperately wants to re-capture the glamour of Salt-N-Pepa’s glory days. Can they overcome their differences long enough to heal their friendship and perform again? {Source}
Judging by the trailer and the show’s overall concept, it looks like this may be pretty good. I’ve known Salt had turned to the Lord, but had no idea she had fallen out with Pepa. What about Spinderealla? I’ll definitely be tuning in whenever this airs in the UK. The show will air on VH1 starting October 15th.
The video for Cassidy’s new single ‘My Drink N’ My 2 Step’ debuted yesterday on BET. I’ve liked the song for the longest time, so it’s great to see the video finally out. The rapper has apparently found God after a rough few years (legal issues, being shot etc), which explains the prayer at the beginning. Honestly, the video isn’t all that great but it serves it’s purpose. ‘My Drink N’ My 2 Step’ is the first single to be lifted from Cassidy’s forthcoming album ‘B.A.R.S (The Barry Adrian Reese Story)’.
