JoJo‘s been getting by with a little help from her friends all year long.

When not blessing fans with collaborations with Tory Lanez, Tinashe, Demi Lovato, and Diane Warren, the GRAMMY winner’s showing love to the next generation of talents.  The latest lift from the latter bunch comes courtesy of Nashville newcomer Lindsey Lomis.

After making her major label debut earlier this year with tunes ‘Feel’ and ‘Bones,’ the 17-year-old Lomis linked with Jo for the heart-tugging ‘Slow Motion.’

Written alongside Ryan Daley, Lomis recently dished on the inspiration behind the song.

“‘Slow Motion’ is dedicated to my best friend,” Lindsey said of the song. “It’s about slowing it down, caring less about what people think of you, and simply living your life. To just let go. This is something I struggle with a lot. I feel the need to please people over myself — I think we all do.”

In a new interview, she continues along said trajectory and elaborates on the hurdles she experienced trying to navigate an infrastructure that had a very different set of rules (and budgets) for music deemed Urban and music labeled Pop.

Now, in the wake of several labels committing to eradicate the term “Urban,” the singer is proposing a more holistic solution: bulldoze the idea of genres altogether.
