It would be most fitting the year the EMMYs boasted its most diverse group of nominees (nearly 50 BIPOC in the acting categories alone), two of television’s most prized figures – RuPaul and Debbie Allen – would make history for becoming the most awarded male and female acts of color in the ceremony’s 73-year history.

Over the weekend, comedy veteran Anthony Anderson took to press to say he was ready for his longtime losing streak with the Television Academy to come to an end.

I was ready for the nomination streak to end a long time ago. This is the 7th nomination. 11 total, but yeah I’m done with the nomination part,” Anderson said Friday (September 17). “I’ll be honest. It’s time for a win.”

He may have later added he would ‘lose his mind’ if he finally nabbed a golden statuette, Sunday night’s EMMY Awards did indeed bring Anthony a loss – but it wasn’t his mind.  Much to the chagrin of fans of his hit ABC series, ‘Black-ish’ (which recently announced it will end with its next season), the 51-year-old is going home empty-handed yet again.

See how Twitter responded to the news.
