Billboard: Janet’s ‘Discipline’ Is #1
After a seven year absence from the top spot, Pop superstar Janet Jackson has hit number 1 with her latest effort ‘Discipline’, according to Billboard. The set, which sold through 181,00 copies in its first week, is the first of the singer’s albums to reach the the coveted position on the Billboard 200 since 2001’s ‘All For You’. Janet’s nearest competition was in the form of Erykah Badu’s ‘New Amerykah’ which bowed at number 2, shifting 124, 000 copies. ‘Discipline’ is Jackson’s 6th number one LP. {Source}
I’m sure much ado will be made about Janet’s numbers, but the fact that ‘Discipline’, give or take, is number 1 will be a PR dream come true. In all fairness to her, much of the promo (including MTV) all started when the album was released, so I guess the numbers reflect that. Word has it ‘longevity’ is the plan with this record, so I’m guessing Island Def Jam are looking to stretch the album ‘Fergie-style’.
I’ve finally gotten my review copy from Island Def Jam UK (of course, I haven’t heard the album already…lol), so expect a review of ‘Discipline’ before the week’s out.

Janet is American, but she definitely performs and sells all over the world. Anyways. I am a big ass fan of Janet, but I agree she can’t sing. I only don’t like one of the songs though. I like that album. And it also depends on your taste in music. She is bit poppish not necessarily R&B on this album. But it depends. I’m not knocking any of you guys opinion though.

janets voice is smooth as honey, and emotional, and sincere. I can listen to that type of voice all day than someone screaming and not creating a mood. janet voice has always been the same. for decades but if her voice is that bad how can we love her songs through out the years. its what she brings to the tracks. she dont have a big but she has a pretty voice.

Janet is doing good her career ain’t dead…She’s been working for over 3 decades and still releasing #1 albums.. The numbers really don’t matter the music industry is in a down fall anyway. Janet sell roughly 200,000 cd’s with just a week of promotion i’ll say she made out alright! Shes an icon, still the best performer, her dancing is still on point. and still nobody can touch her tours. and the women in today’s music industry will NEVER have a career like janet’s face it! She can’t be stopped.. the record label ain’t worried about the numbers and neither is she! And if her career is dead the what about jayz……..? nobody say’s anything about his last two flopped albums and he’s damn near janet’s age so is it time for him to quit music too.. Y can’t Janet do her? she’s loves what she does and as long as she’s happy let her enjoy and live her life.

janet is number one, the numbers are not really important though, cause she sold more for the last two records the first week they came out, but weren’t at the top of the bilboard! BUT the most imortant is janet is number ooooonnnnneeee motherfuckaaaa!!! ha ha ha so it’ll make big publicity for her
this album is great and i hope IDJ will make what fergie did with her album (many singles, many videos, many promo performances) the future will be good

First off, let me just say that Janet is an INTERNATIONAL superstar. So you damn straight she’s going to be mentioned on here.. “UK” site or not. She has fans there. Shit, us Americans report on your stars so what’s the big deal?
Secondly, for you haters saying Janet can’t sing, she’s needs to retire, etc. Shut the f@ck up! She’s been in the game for 20 years and STILL releasing # 1 bangers REGARDLESS of the ’sales.’ The last time I checked number one is number on bytches. She’s still on TOP. So take your hate else where.

i think janet’s a descent singer. just bc she doesn’t yell doesn’t mean she’s not a good singer. her strength has always been in performing.

I think she still has alot to give…she can’t sing live but she still rock whenever she gets at dancin…she will always be a DIVA just as like MC and MJB are…and even though these two still have their voices on tip top they all hav been through bad moments in their lives and that has affected their career…(i doubt Whitney will ever make a comeback as the others did..)
So i just think Janet had her chance like Mariah n she’s goin to prove she still has it!!

I think it’s funny how someone always throws Mariah into a Janet argument. Do we forget that she hasn’t always been on top either? It’s also odd that the negative comments come from anonymous posters. Just an observation.

theres a differece between a singer and a vocalist-aaliyah (emerging vocalist) beyonce (vocalist) old school mariah and whitney (vocalists) kelly (vocalist-hataers bag back) christina (vocalist)—singers – jlo, janet, ciara-u get the picture! and in all honesty im a big fan of janet and based of the snippets i heard i wasnt really impressed but when i got the full album is was fire-i could actually listen to the whole cd from start to finish and she does sound just like mike on the slow jams. i was very impressed. love feedback luv rock wit u (addictive as fukk for some reason) something in the air and shyt all the rest and the skits are funny and cooky which helps tie in the whole album. when is was at the last track i actually said is that all because i wanted it to go on. janet keep giving us good music and for all her obvious haters…shes still an ICON and icons dont just fade away so go fall on something sharp!
