SZA Sizzles in ‘Rolling Stone’ / Talks VMAs Snub, Lizzo’s Legal Woes, ‘SOS’ Deluxe, & More

Published: Tuesday 3rd Oct 2023 by Rashad

In addition to playing covergirl to the latest GRAMMY preview edition of ‘Rolling Stone,’ award-winning songstress SZA left few topics off the table while dishing it up with the mag’s resident interviewer Mankaprr Conteh.

When not confirming that she was putting the finishing touches on a deluxe edition of her blockbuster sophomore album, ‘SOS,’ the R&B diva chatted honestly about her brief tryst with ‘Slime U Out‘ co-star Drake, the current legal woes of her industry friend Lizzo, those headline-grabbing MTV VMAs snubs, and so much more.

Donning designer duds under the lens of famed photographer Gianni Gallant, look inside to see what she said about the aforementioned subjects and more.

SZA ON LIZZO’S LEGAL DRAMA:

“I’m just saying, based on the values and the energy that I see in my friend, I just really think that she’s a beautiful person, and I just really pray that everybody recovers from this because everybody deserves to heal and feel safe and feel loved,” she says. “I just really hope that everybody ends up feeling like that when this is all said and done. Because that’s the bottom line.”

SZA’s MANANGER ON 2023 VMAs SNUB:

“That was the disrespect,” her manager, Punch, says. “It wasn’t not getting nominated. The ultimate disrespect is you don’t even want to discuss why she wasn’t nominated or what the criteria was. When I asked about the Artist of the Year nomination, they were basically like, ‘She got nominated for a bunch of other ones.’ And to me, that felt like, ‘Shut up and dribble.’”

SZA REFLECTING ON 2018 GRAMMYs SNUB:

“That’s weird that that happened to me on TV,” she remembers. “That night, right before I lost the last two, Tyler [the Creator] was like, ‘Nah, it would be so fucking weird if you lost everything and they asked you to perform. That’d be so terrible, don’t even worry.’ Child, when I lost that last one …” she says, remembering Tyler looking at her then walking out.

SZA also used the in-depth chat to confirm the deluxe edition of her ‘SOS,’ called ‘Lana,’ will include 10 new songs on top of the project’s current cuts.

I don’t even understand why people pay so much attention to these awards shows, especially in the US. Who cares ?
It doesn’t build a career (hello Mariah, biggest Grammy snub in their history).

They want to be rewarded for their hard work like anyone else and like it or not, having GRAMMY Award winning artist before your name raises your stock

Yeah but a many great artists didn’t get even 1 so just shut the f up. There are so many artists and only one from each category can win. Legends didn’t cry about that why this young artists like to complain so much. Just shut up and do better for next time. Just shut up 😤😭😤😭 how much can you cry?! You are not Whitney Houston, you are not Michael Jackson, you just Sza. You still have a lot to prove. Bi.tch bye! Your album is forgettable! Actually probably all of your catalogue. Sit down 🪑

Many great vocalist were snubbed. I think she is doing great for what she brings to the table🤷🏾‍♂️.. the grammys are usually for singers and popular songs writers write sza is neither.
