Mariah Carey Starts Work On New Album

Carey's 'E=MC²' Soars Straight To #1
It appears Mariah Carey is wasting no time after her last LP ‘E=MC²’ failed to ignite the charts in the way, I’m sure, she and her label would have hoped. The 38 year old songstress is currently in the studio recording the album’s follow-up:

The-Dream just dropped his new single “My Love,” which features Mariah Carey, but that’s not all the two have been up to lately.

The-Dream stopped by L.A.’s Power 106 with Big Boy In The Morning, and talked about his new album and the fact that he hadn’t gone to sleep yet because he was up all night with Mariah working on new material for her.

According to The-Dream, Mariah is already working on a new album and he’s been producing some hot new tracks for her.

As you may already know, The-Dream is responsible for producing Mariah’s huge hit “Touch My Body” off her current album E=MC². {Source}

For all my (justified) criticism of Mariah, it’s kinda unfortunate that she has called it a day on ‘E=MC²’. Though not the best album of hers (not by a long shot), there was still enough winning material on there for the album to have fared much better (See: ‘For The Record’ & ‘Migrate’).
It’s pretty evident that Mimi knows that at 38 there is only so much time left for her to be cranking out such bubble-gum mediocrity like ‘Touch My Body’ and using her ‘sex appeal’ to sell a record. As the Janet’s and Madonna’s know, once near or over the ’40’ hill, such antics are greeted with a collective side-eye (hey Fresh!) from the masses. I’m kinda hoping Mariah’s next release sees a return to her making quality albums, that have longetivity in their own right – unlike some of the rubbish she’s been putting out recently.
Your thoughts?

    Gosh NO…. Not E=MC3

I don’t see an album of substance and longevity coming if she’s working heavy with the Dream Sam…

I wish she’d forgo a new album and go on vocal rest for a l o n g time or get the surgery and get those nodules removed from her cords…she can’t sing without rasp if she wanted to these days.. so sad.

good for mimi i pray that you do it right this time. and e=mc3 isn’t even a damn equation fool! hahahahahaha

Hey, E=MC2 is a good album!!!
the problem was the wrong choice of released singles!!!
I am still wondering why they aren’t releasing “Migrate” w/c is the best track in that album!!!

The last thing i want from Ms.Mimi is another dream collaboration. Touch my body was a rubbish as rubbish gets. Mariah should go back to the production team from Emancipation of Mimi.

I don’t know that you can compare Janet and Madonna’s brand of sexuality with Mariah’s…who’s rarely s***, but generally trashy. Approaching 40 doesn’t mean you need to throw on a turtle neck and curl up with menopause…people go too hard on Janet especially for staying in touch with her sexuality, as if it should have expired at 39.

That being said, “I Stay In Love” is my s***.

I got the E=MC2 when it came out I really thought it was a great album the only problem it really had was them putting out the wrong singles you would have thought how long mariah been out she would know what the hell to put out the right hits from that album that being said after touch my body (fun song) was put out they should have dropped I’ll be luvin u long time then Migrate just in time for the summer then end it all out with for the record

I hope she comes hard this time around because I really what something better then The Emancipation of Mimi album because that was my s***

Sam your just didn’t like anything Mariah did since she married Nick, E=MC2 is a good album not the fire like Emancipation but a good album but in my opinion wrong singles Migrate,Love Story, Cruise Control, Side Effects, For The Record, Thanks For Nothing would have been beter singles, I love Touch My Body but the video was rubbish,

With Emancipation Mariah went back to her Butterfly days the album was jamming with tunes and hot ballads, E=MC2 was more slow paced but it was still good, if she’s doing another album I’m gonna get it i just don’t wanna her JD’s voice over everything I find him annoying

Mirgrate should have been a single, period.

  10. rnbboy January 16, 2009

Wrong singles – lack of promo – lack of physical singles in the UK!

Bye Bye should never have been released! Migrate should have been the 2nd single!

  11. Anonymous January 16, 2009

The two first singles ruined it for the album. I would 2 copies of "Emanicipation" but "Touch my Body" gave me no desire to buy E=MC2 and "ByeBye" made it even worse.

All of the singles from Emancipation were JD produced, as annoying as he is, he and Mariah have that magic. They always have. Every singer has THAT producer, and its Mariah & JD.

Its like that – JD produced
We Belong together – JD produced
Shake it off – JD produced
Don't forget about us – JD produced
Say Something – i pretend it never happened

I dont think E=MC2 was any better or worse than the Emancipation, just as mentioned above her problem was the release of her bad singles. Seemed like all the songs that unchecked on my itunes were the ones she chose to make videos for.
I was waiting for Love Story, Side Effects, and For the Record to be released. Maybe then she would have seen more success, good luck this go around MiMi.

The real problem is that Mariah's major fan base was and is not the 16-24 crowd like she is making music to cater to. Emancipation didn't even really take off until We Belong Together was released and that definitely was not a song geared towards the young people. She is known for her cross-generational music with a few hip-hop tracks and her adult contemporary-ish songs. Not songs with The Dream and T-Pain. Boo! It's just like when Janet tried to switch up and go R&B (thanks JD!). She is not really known for straight up R&B so she flopped. It's like Fantasia and Monica getting all hood. Usher getting grown. Possibly Keisha Cole getting all happy.

Mariah needs to take some time off and rediscover HER music instead of jumping on the "this is the hotness of right now" bandwagon if she wants to see her former success again.

KEEP UP WIT DA MATERIAL SAM – YALL CHECK YOUTUBE

BC – you are so not right! In fact, Mariah is not jumping on any bandwagon, she has been there a long time ago starting with Daydream and breathtaking remixes she has done. Besides, she was pop because they wanted her to be this way. It’s sad that so many people are easy when it comes to hate on her, but probably they don’t remember all the good music that has come from this woman. Fortunately, I am old enough to know this.

I hope the new album will be as good as E=MC2 (I still remember Rainbow which I don’t like so much) or even better.

Do not ever compare the brilliance of Butterfly to s***** melodies, weak lyrics, and over singing on The Emancipation of Mimi.

Butterfly is brilliant, perfect, do not ever say TEOM is on the same level or remotely near.

GOOD cus Im FEELING MY LOVE!!!
She needs a baby to be honest! Here great looks and voice shouldnt stop at her! She needs to pass that down!

    i dont care

  19. hello Keithy January 17, 2009

E=MC2 was a good album and i think it should have gone better if it was on the right singles chosen…

    1. Touch My Body – yes its fun and very light but i find it lame compare to other singles.

    2. Bye Bye – they shouldn’t have release this as the 2nd single… something got ruined along the way… and the way she promoted this song was lackluster.

    3. I’ll Be Loving U Long Time – i rarely listen to this… was not meant to be put out.

These are what i think that should’ve been out (IMO) :

    1. Love Story (Acoustic Version – MTV 52/52) its catchy, vibrant and the lyrics are as practical as ever… something that we could relate to.

    2. Thanks For Nothing – (Acoustic Version) I was very impressed on the MTV version… Sad it was just a portion of the song. How come they never did a full version of this?

    3. Migrate – this is one big club banger… PERIOD!!!

E=MC2 is filled with potential hits, its just that it wasn’t managed properly and her promotion was nowhere near her last album. And i kinda got affected of her “stiffness” presence on stage.

  20. Anonymous January 17, 2009

Sam SHUT UP. JEALOUS B****! Mariah is the best. She is a legend. You Sam? E=MC2 is a success, but the next album will be better.

  21. Anonymous January 17, 2009

personally i cant wait for a new album, i just hope its good, i liked e=mc2, however the wrong singles where chosen, side effects anyone?

what is needed for her new album is another we belong together type ballad

  22. anita January 17, 2009

I don’t agree with you saying “this is not her best album” because this IS her best album. She just didn’t give a crap for it

  23. Anonymous January 17, 2009

The article says that the Dream is working on tracks for Mariah. That does not mean Mariah is recording or even the artist that is going to get the track! The Dream is a producer and he sells tracks like Umbrella and Touch My Body to the highest buyer.

  24. Anonymous January 18, 2009

How can you compare things that AREN’T comparable?

Mariah IS very attractive, feminine and s***. She actually SINGS. Her music and her persona appeal to a great mass of people – white, black and asian. She is well-known and appreciated around the globe – USA, Europe, Japan, China, Latin America, Southeast Asia… everywhere… :))

    So… Age ain’t nothing but a number…

mariah made the right choice and please sam mariah has not been putting out rubbish lately…lemme explain this 2008 has been a bad year for REAL singers[see mariah, usher, madonna, janet, brandy]since their record labels have opted for rihanna and beyonce and other clowns[right here and long distance are obviously better than single ladies and if i were as boy whereas i stay in love and ill be lovin u long time would definitely be mariahs 19th and 20th number ones coz hello disturbia reached number one as well as single ladies

  26. Chris January 19, 2009

I hate that they put such a big amount of money in Rihanna… Mariah is so much better! Will be looking out for a new album. All the great singer is coming back in 09. Toni Braxton and Whitney! It would only be fair for Mariah to release a new album. Brandy’s album was the best of 08!

  27. Anonymous January 19, 2009

Right now this all rumors nothing is confirmed by MC or her management or Island Def Jam. Also just because she has begun working on her new album does not mean it will be out any time soon.I would dare to say it will appear in 10 just in time for her 20th year in the game with a big world tour to follow. But for now just relax and let the magic happen as far as creation.
