Omarion Upset He’s Not Part Of Jackson Grammy Trubute

R&B singer Omarion has vented his frustrations at not being included in this Sunday’s Grammy tribute to the late, great King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The former B2K front-man opened up to VIBE about the matter; peep an extract from the piece below:

The R&B singer tells VIBE that a tribute without himself, however, wouldn’t be the same. “If I’m not a part of that, then that’s not… I’m not gonna say it’s wack,” he says. “But I’m just saying, everyone knows what I do, so if you gon’ have an MJ tribute…”

Still, a lighthearted O, who recently released his solo album Ollusion, acknowledged that since so many artists were influenced by MJ, the options are plenty. “I take that back because Stevie [Wonder] did an MJ tribute. Everyone loved Michael. I’m not gon’ say that,” he says. “I’m just meaning the performance [aspect]. How you gon’ have a Michael tribute without the playboy? [Laughs]. That’s my only thing, and I mean this in the humblest and the most competitive way. I’m competitive — that’s what the game is about.

“Especially after Mike passed away, I feel like the stage, it’s more important now. It’s a responsibility to me when I hit the stage to not play with it,” O continued. “If you walk back and forth that’s cool, too. If that’s how you entertain, that’s cool, but for the performances and for the dances and for the people that look up to Michael in the fashion I look up to Michael? I hope they bring it. Because if they don’t, then I will.”

LMAO!

It goes without saying that Omari is gifted. However, moaning about not being selected just makes the fact he was overlooked that much worse LOL. I mean, for as political as the industry can be, if he was meant to be picked, he would’ve been…and he wasn’t. The end. What’s more, with the tribute song being ‘Earth Song’ and seemingly more a vocal / theatrical affair – with the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Usher, and Celine Dion performing in it – I can’t see how ol’ Omari would have fit the bill. Oh well…

oh Leave him alone. He loves MJ, what’s so funny about stating what he feels? Isn’t that what an INTERVIEW is for?. Gosh man, let him do him, please. You would think he would be a part of the tribute, he is an awesome dancer. He should do his own MJ tribute with other dancers, that would be good too.

  2. Raychel January 29, 2010

I hate to bring up cb in this post but I have to.
PLEASE DONT JUMP ON ME PLEASE!
when chris brown did the EXACT same thing, you had nothing bad to say. you even agreed. WHATS THAT ALL ABOUT?
certain artists get to cry about not doing mj tributes, but others cant? how biased is that? if cb and other artists can be mad because they cant participate, so can omarian. he has a right to, just like any other star who KNOWS that they are good at dancing, and probably deserves a spot in the line up.

SHAME on you sam and trent. SHAME on you for being so got darn SHADY!

  3. TRUTH January 29, 2010

    WHO’S OMARION??? YEA, MAYBE THAT’S WHY…

  4. Erica24 January 29, 2010

    @Raychel!

    HEY!!! I AGREE!

  5. Raychel January 29, 2010

    @erica24 lol HEY!!!

  6. January 29, 2010

@RAYCHEL: preach, girl. that’s exactly what i was gonna say.

the stan-ness of this site is annoying.
people may say it’s not person X or person Y’s fanboard, but it damn sure seems that way sometimes.

  7. ARTISTK January 29, 2010

LMAO@ TRUTH … Earth Song is not where Omarion would do Michael’s legacy justice… Stop bitching and do your own tribute…

  8. imme January 29, 2010

LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO @ the gif. Done and Done. I can’t.

  9. Trey January 29, 2010

I AGREE IN A WAY IT SEEM LIKE ANYTHING THATS BEEN DONE FOR MJ IS SINGING AND MJ WASNT JUST A SINGER HE WAS A DANCE A ACTOR HE WAS MANY THINGS AND THEY NEED TO HAVE OTHER SINGERS/DANCERS LIKE CIARA CHRIS BROWN TO REALLY GIVE US A RIGHT TRUBUTE TO HIM…..BUT RIP KING

  10. hihihihi January 29, 2010

LOL U ALWAYS SAY GES GIFTED BUT HE SINGS WORSE THAN RIHANNA WHO U AHTE

    GIMMICKY BLOG

WITHOUT RIHANNA YOU WOULD BE NOTHING

  11. MS.CLAY January 29, 2010

I’M SORRY, BUT I AGREE WHOLE-HEARTEDLY WITH SAM. OKAY OMARION IS AN OKAY DANCER HOWEVER HE SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR FIRST OF ALL THIS TYPE OF PERFORMANCE AND SECONDLY HE IS NOT WORTHY OF THE EVEN ATTENDING THE GRAMMY’S LET ALONE PERFORMING AT THEM. NOW IF PPL WANNA BRING CB INTO THIS THEN LET’S SEE FIRST OFF CB WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BET AWARDS, WHICH IS LACKLUSTER IN ITSELF, SECONDLY CB IS A WAY BETTER DANCER, PERFORMER, ARTIST, ETC THAN OMARION! OMARION’S DANCING IS MORE ROBOTIC THAN NATURAL MOVEMENT! THEN HE MENTIONED IT AS IF HE IS THE BEST DANCER EVER CREATED.”How you gon’ have a Michael tribute without the playboy? ” OH COME ON!!!!!!!!!! SMH.

  12. Raychel January 29, 2010

@ms clay but your missing the point.
cb moaned about not doing a mj tribute just like omarian did. it dosent matter what AWARDS show it is, its the fact that both of them complained about not being included in an awards show for a mj tribute, and omarian gets the negative while others such as cb and usher get the positive

  13. shay January 29, 2010

Im not really a fan of O but I feel where he is coming from.I dont think any mj tribute should just be singing or dancing. They should have artist do both. Some artist should sing some should dance and some should do both. And I really didnt think chris was talking about the tribut the same way O is.Chris said the tribute was wack but he also said it wasnt only because he wasnt there but that they(the bet awards) didnt have a lot of artist who were most influenced by mj, performing. And I agree. But O is saying that he feels its not a tribute if hes not a part of it.I have to disagree.O is good at what he does but he is not the only one who looked up to mj.(this just how I see it)

  14. MS.CLAY January 29, 2010

    @RAYCHEL

BUT CB COMPLAINED AFTER THE FACT! HE SAID THE BET AWARDS MJ TRIBUTE WAS WHACK AND IT WAS!!!!! IT WASN’T LIKE HE WAS LYING AND COMPLAINING ABOUT SOMETHING PRIOR TO THE EVENT BUT HE WAS SAYING IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A WHOLE LOT BETTER HAD HE PERFORMED WHICH I AGREE. OMARION IS COMPLAINING EVEN BEFORE THE SHOW AIRS! HE’S SAYING IT’S NOT GONNA BE GOOD WITHOUT HIM AND HE DOESN’T EVEN KNOW WHAT’S IN STORE YET! AND THE GRAMMY’S ARE ON A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL THAN THE BET AWARDS, A LOCAL RAPPER CAN GO ON THE BET AWARDS BUT THE GRAMMY’S ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST AND HE’S COMPLAINING ABOUT BEING APART OF SOMETHING HE WILL PROBABLY NEVER BE APART OF BECAUSE HIS CAREER IS SO LACKLUSTER! DIFFERENT AWARD SHOWS, DIFFERENT LEVEL OF TALENT, AND DIFFERENT CALIBER OF ARTIST.

  15. RANDOM January 29, 2010

O is talented and he has a new album out is he at least performing.

they all stay on chris browns d*** on the blogs like he is gods gift to entertainment.

he quite average in singing and dancing really nothing special.

  16. Newbee January 29, 2010

Raychel I get wat you are saying but Omarion said that ‘How you gon’ have a Michael tribute without the playboy?’ He makes it seem like he is the greatest dancer of all time. In my opinion Omarion is an Okay dancer. I mayb missing something. I dont remeber excatly wat Chris said but I know he didnt say that there is no show witout him, and that is wat Omarion is saying.

  17. Erica24 January 29, 2010

ok..so USHER is going to be in the tribute..and not Omarion? Im confused..Are they picking favorites or sumthin’?…b/c it doesn’t make any sense. Omarion could do songs like Beat it, Usher, Rock with you etc..Chris Brown, Thriller.. Who is runnin’ this thing anyway?

  18. Erica24 January 29, 2010

@Raychel, I get what your saying too.

I also think Omarion was just saying How you going to do a tribute without your boy b/c you know how much he loves MJ. That’s how I took it, I dont think he was saying he was the best dancer, but everyone knows he often imitates Michael Jackson.

That’s like them doing a Janet Jackson tribute, and not using Ciara, but using a P**** cat doll.

  19. Raychel January 29, 2010

@erica24 biased people probably..who pick and choose
@newbee I really dont think he was serious with that statement. and I dont think that omarian is trying to stress that the show would be nothing without him.
I just think that he is trying to say, that he’s a dancer, and that he would like to get his chance to perform for MJ. I mean, omarian thinks that he’s the stuff, but who dosent? Omarian wants his time to shine, and thats exactly what cb wanted, aside with the fact that they REALLY wanted to do it for MJ

  20. MS.CLAY January 29, 2010

WOW! I DISAGREE WITH THAT @ERICA24. I DON’T THINK THAT’S AN ACCURATE ANALOGY. CIARA DOING JANET IS DIFFERENT FROM OMARION DOING MICHAEL. OMARION IS NOT A WELL-KNOWN ARTIST NOR IS HE A GREAT DANCER! AND USHER IS ON A WHHOOOOOOLLLLLLEEEEE DIFFERENT LEVEL THAN OMARION. USHER HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY’S NUMEROUS TIMES AND HE IS A WELL-KNOWN ARTIST FOR NOT ONLY THE R&B GENRE BUT OUTSIDE OF THAT GENRE AS WELL.

  21. Erica24 January 29, 2010

@Ms. Clay, That’s just your opinion tho, it’s not based on facts. There are plenty of people who feel omarion can dance, otherwise, he woudn’t be doing abdc. In no way am I coming at you in a rude way, so please don’t think that. I just feel, IMO, that omarion wasn’t saying it in a cocky way.

If you were an entertainer, highly influenced by a particular artist, and they were doing a tribute for your fav. If they didn’t ask you to be a part of if, u would probably feel a certain way.

I don’t want to take what he said too serious, so I GIVE him the benefit of the doubt. No matter what, He can always do his own tribute. =]

  22. shelly-chelle January 29, 2010

nicki minaj made this post, poor omarion he seems to be forgoten everywhere he goes

  23. MS.CLAY January 29, 2010

    @ERICA24

OH NO, I DON’T THINK YOU’RE BEING RUDE AT ALL. IT’S JUST A DIFFERENCE IN OPINIONS. I UNDERSTAND THAT. BUT I DO THINK THAT HAD OMARION BEEN A WELL-KNOWN ARTIST THAT MAKES MUSIC THAT APPEALS TO MOST PEOPLE HE WOULD HAVE SOME TYPE OF REASON TO SAY SOMETHING LIKE THIS REGARDLESS OF HIS DANCE SKILLS BECAUSE HIS LACK OF DANCE SKILLS IS MY OPINION. CB WAS SUPPOSED TO PERFORM LAST YEAR SO HE’S MORE APPEALING THAN, TO ME, ANY OTHER MALE ARTIST OUT RIGHT NOW, EXCEPT FOR USHER WHO IS A UP AND COMING LEGEND OF R&B. AND I AGREE IF I WERE AN ENTERTAINER AND INFLUENCED BY MJ OR SOMEONE ELSE I WOULD DEFINITELY WANT TO DO IT HOWEVER I WOULD NOT GO ABOUT EXPRESSING MYSELF AS OMARION DID AND ESPECIALLY PUBLICLY. HE COULD HAVE JUST SAID “YEAH I WANTED TO DO IT AND I’M DISAPPOINTED BY THEIR DECISION TO NOT INCLUDE ME”……AND SO ON AND SO FORTH. AND I THNK HE MEANT IT JUST HOW HE SAID IT BECAUSE HE HAS CLAIMED HISSELF TO BE THE “KING OF DANCE.” WHICH IS A LITTLE MUCH FOR A LACKLUSTER ARTIST LIKE HIM AS FAR AS APPEAL AND FANBASE PERIOD. AND I’M NOT AGAINST OMARION IN ANY WAY CUZ I LOVED HIS FIRST ALBUM BUT HE DOWNGRADED WHEN HE DID THE DUO THING WITH BOW WOW AND THIS ALBUM IS DEFINITELY AND DOWNGRADE BECAUSE OF THE AUTOTUNING AND SUCH.

  24. Ben January 29, 2010

LOLOLOL, Omarion, simmer down now lolololol, You did your tribute in your hoodie video, and it wasn’t all that, so forget about it. P.S. Grape Juice, I like your animated GIF here.

  25. vegasgirl January 29, 2010

IF in fact the tribute song is earth song O couldn’t vocally handle it ( I’m actually nervous about Usher doing it, maybe someone else is singing it and Ush is handling other songs). I don’t fault O for saying he wished he could participate in a tribute because up to now there have been NO ACCEPTABLE tributes for MJ. the best tributes have been watching MJ do MJ. I just wish there were more new quality artists to really be excited about, I have to have to look to the past to see great work, makes me very sad. I’m ready for some NEW BLOOD in the game that give me chills (and KESHA ain’t doing it for me). Also I do notice Sam and Trent do stan very hard for certain artists and seem to strongly dislike other ones but I really haven’t seen the complaining elicit any substantial change in tone, so just accept that when you come here that is what you are going to get. Some of you must enjoy this blog even with that because I see the same folks on here. That said I enjoy this blog even if i don’t always agree, Good job boys!!

  26. vegasgirl January 29, 2010

In fact last new arists I staned for was probably amy winehouse…bish can SANG and she is who she is without question perfect example of talent trumping all else HALLELUJAH!. Amy come back please!!!!

  27. I am Hatian January 29, 2010

I must agree with Raychel. Omarion can dance his b*** off. The new people writing opinions on this site have been awful harsh on Omarion as of late. I notice you give Chris the woman beater high accolades as oppose to Omarion. Omarion can’t sang and Chris can’t sang but they both are phenomenal dancers. I don’t like it when Omarion has done nothing but state his opinions about certain stuff but the new writers make it seem like he is nothing but dirt to be spit on. You should evaluate how you show support a black young fellow trying to do positive thangs with his life. I am not a fan of Omarion but the way you constantly attack his character I feel it is uncalled for especially when Omarion and Chris are on the same level of dancing abilities. Oh and if the song is about vocal abilities than I would understand if Omarion and Chris were not invited. Perhaps Ginuwine. Usher is gonna kill it .

  28. AREIS January 30, 2010

Omarion ollusion ass is not MJ when you flop you gets no grammy play say so stop being mad just say i get out like B2Kant follow me on twitter areisevans

  29. mia January 30, 2010

I agree if other artist can get upset about not being apart of the tribute then so can omarion! And for the record Chris brown is not a better dancer than O and i am a huge CB fan. that dude is mad hyper on stage and he does some of the same s***. people are just jumping on chris nuts because he is younger but his technique does not come close to omarion all though they are both excellent dancers. I still get mad at BET for putting chris at the top with james brown and michael jackson for BET top 25 dancers! They even put his ass higher than janet jackson! Just because o has not been doing well on the charts does not mean he should not be apart i guarantee he would have made michael jackson proud. music today sucks and what bothers me is that there will never be another artist like him because society and the way the industry works is so messed up. As much as i love beyonce she is even starting to become predictable and the older she gets the younger she tries to look.

  30. 12345 January 30, 2010

cb, omarion, ciara… those 3 should just go away, 1/2/3 hit wonders, for f*** sake, they are nothing, Aaliyah and MJ will always be the angles that came to this Earth to reign and entertain, not these copycats

  31. 12345 January 30, 2010

    *angels

  32. Support jordin January 30, 2010

Omarion has every right to be upset. The grammys are gonna suck without any dancers

  33. bbq January 30, 2010

Chris Brown wasn’t even asked to take part in the MJ tribute and Omarion really thinks that of all people he would be asked before CB…i don’t think so…boy bye

  34. ghanes14 January 30, 2010

He should be able to be upset by this just as any other artist is able to.

  35. Erica24 January 30, 2010

    @msclay

ok, now I understand, and I am totally with you 100%. Also, that was a super downgrade when he did that album with bowwow…it was like they were trying to do the best of both worlds like R.Kelly and Jay Z, and they failed. So sista im with you! lol….I see your point now. =]

  36. Anndee January 30, 2010

Michael Jackson was famous because MILLIONS of fans were influenced by his music and performances, not just one or two artists who’ve copied his style. I think egos are to blame for certain people believing their involvement is the only key element that makes for a good tribute?

Like someone else said, we don’t even know what’s fully in store for the Grammy tribute. And while it may or may not be true that Omarion was serious with his statement, it still comes off as whiney.

  37. Kaleo’s Music Boom Box January 30, 2010

He likes to complain a lot huh?? HAHA
He is a talented guy, but if he continues to complain it just makes him seem like a glory hogger and a really immature. Like all the comments he made against Rihanna upon the release of her album. Just fame seeking at it’s worse. I mean the guy is doing pretty good why sit there and complain…Like what Sam said if they wanted him to perform they would have chose him for the line-up. Haha how sad haha

  38. Symone January 30, 2010

There are certain posters and they knew who they are,who just can’t seem to come to this site without “their daily bash Chris Brown fest”……In my opinion this is one of the FEW sites that isn’t kissing his ex ass, which why I like the site….I really feel some of you need to seek help because it’s simply not healthy for you to project the anger you have for your abuser onto Chris Brown! I just hope Chris don’t get with another woman that batters him and then pretend as if she is a Saint ……..

Chris had a right to complain about that fiasco last year at BET,because he was INVITED and then UNINVITED because one person decided to blackmail BET with he and his wife not performing if Chris was allowed to perform and while I am a fan of his wife music,I would have gladly done without both of them to see CHRIS perform!

  39. mimi January 30, 2010

He just mad because he won’t be able to promote his album at the grammys. Opportunist!! SAD!!

  40. Raychel January 30, 2010

@symone no one is projecting their anger on Chris… What are you talking about???
The reason why Chris was uninvited to the bet awards because it was too much backlash with what he did to his ex…
But I don’t remember him complaining about that, I remember him complaining about not being in the Michael Jackson tribute…and the main point some people are trying to raise is that if Chris can complain and be upset about not being apart of a mj tribute, so can omarian…

Why do people always assume individuals are “crazy” and need to seek help when they are proving a valid point?? Noone is bashing Chris on this post…the main person we are bashing are Sam and Trent…it’s like as soon as you see his name, you think people are running him into the mud…it dosent make any type of sense…

  41. YouPutTheLimeInTheCoconut January 30, 2010

@Symone, you’re right about this site being one of the only that doesn’t kiss her ass. The problem is, though, that this site straight up disrespects her, lol.

Anyhow, when it comes to the topic at hand, Omarion isn’t relevant enough to be part of the Grammy tribute. Was this n**** even INVITED to the show in the first place? Lol!

  42. E11 January 30, 2010

    sit down ormarion. nobody cares!

  43. Carly January 30, 2010

lmfao! Who would want a flop at the grammys tribute? lmfao~!!!

    omarion go sit down!

  44. Symone January 31, 2010

@Rachel………I guess what I said must have been true for YOU! As usual you always respond to my posts as if they are directed at you.It doesn’t shock me that you chose to believe JAY-Z story after the truth got out. I don’t need you to tell me what others are trying to say because I can read it for myself and I don’t agree and I don’t have to but that is what you just DON’T seem to understand………..

I don’t recall saying anyone was “crazy”,so miss me with that nonsense.I do recall saying that there are people “with unresolved abuse” issues that project their issues onto Chris and that they need to seek help for their issue, which would make sense to anyone with “common sense”,but you seem to lack that unless people are in FULL agreement with you, which is weak in my opinion…….

Honestly,I DO feel YOU have issues because for one thing you are ENTIRELY TOO SENSITIVE and you think everything is about you.I don’t associate with weaklings like you in real life and I sure as hell won’t on the net…….

  45. Symone January 31, 2010

    @ YOUPUTTHELIMEINTHECOCONUT

I don’t really see this site disrespecting her as much as I see them keeping it 100 about her,Rihanna disrespects herself.Need I remind people that it was “she” that allowed the new boyfriend who is an accused r***** and stalker to palm her ass for the paparazzi! I like this site because Sam and Trent tell the truth about her ” perceived talent “……Frankly I’m tired of the sympathy she receives because in my opinion, she doesn’t deserve it…..

Omarion is a dancer as well as a singer,so I can understand “his comments about what he feels” as it concern Micheal Jackson. Honestly I don’t want to see a bunch of still dancers that looked like “they had” to practice to complete a stiff routine, but I won’t be wasting my time time watching that mess tonight.

  46. trucie January 31, 2010

Honestly if Omari was as special as he thinks he is, he would have a #1 selling album. So that says alot. I would have hoped to see Chris do his thing, but being that the b****** f***** up this time last year, ain’t no one trynna to see him. Oh well! Sucks for both of them i guess. Now on to the next one!

  47. Raychel January 31, 2010

    @symone
everything In that post just made me laugh my b*** off…..
Seriously…..what is the deal with you?
You try to sound intelligent when saying all those things…but you just end up sounding dumb…
Not everyone is going to agree with what you say SYMONE…
I knew that your post wasn’t directed towards you, I just thought it was ridiculous that you think if people talk about Chris…they need to seek help And they are bashing him….as if noone can dissagree with something he does, or talk about him..!

    I don’t need any help…and I don’t have any issues…lol
I can see you are a VERY big cb fan and that’s okay… Do you.
But you talking about people bashing Chris when this is a OMORIAN post..
    just made me laugh…it’s ridiculous

  48. renee February 1, 2010

lmao….damn thats crazy how yall got that yo gotti jawn at the end……omarion prolly mad as s*** rite now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CTFU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. AFN April 17, 2010
