Regardless of what the two of you think of her talent you cannot deny she is one of the most innovative and successful artists out at the moment. Her creativity throws boulders over a lot of work by the so called ‘Amazing’ artists you talk about, namely Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Mariah Carey. All these people who are hailed as something big.
You fail to look at the bigger picture, which may be a reason you will be a successful journalist as 90% of them dont have a clue. The bigger picture, is Rihanna grows musically and vocally with each album, each album she gives you so much more. Where people like Beyonce seem to have lost the creativity and depth in her music. Beyonce has no Russian Roulettes or Cold Case Loves because she has no emotion. The only growth I see in Mariah Carey these days is in her thighs and Lady Gagas album could be a 45 minute song with a slight change in the beat every 5 minutes.

Rihanna is not an artist. She’s a singer. There’s a difference. She has minimal to no creative input into the music she puts out beyond telling people what songs she wants them to give her. The majority of the creative efforts come from songwriters and producers her label hires for her, and her friends like jay-z, neyo and justin timberlake.
Until she puts out an album where she has written all her music (and I don’t mean just being the last creditted “co-writer” behind a string of 2-5 other actual writers) as does teenage Taylor swift and lady gaga with their albums, she is a singer and not an artist.

I wouldn’t say ‘flop’. The album is consistently selling between 20-30 thousand a week in America, and the album has reached 700,000 by now I’ve read. They have given a platinum certificate yeah, because I imagine they have anticipated they will sell all of the shipped CDs, hence shipping so many CDs out. Give another month or so of consistent sales and she will justify that platinum certificate.

And Another thing….why can’t people admit where their favorite artist has weaknesses? My favorite artist is Jazmine Sullivan. She’s a great singer, but she’s an alto so she doesn’t have much of a range. But that’s okay, because I still love her voice and performances!
Rihanna isn’t a very good singer or dancer, nor does she have a good stage presence, but her styling is wonderful and she seems to have fun doing music.
Beyonce’s singing is very operatic and she uses a lot of falsetto, she’s not really the greatest singer either. But she can sing and her performances are UNMATCHED! She’s constantly doing new, cool things.
Lady Gaga can come across as gimmicky and her dancing isn’t that great. But, she ballsy and tries to do something different than everyone else (I know her authenticity is debatable) but she has a clear goal and image. She’s also talented on the piano, and uses her voice in creative ways.
So, after all that…why sit up here on a blog and defend people that are human and have weaknesses? People can still like them….they aren’t God or Superman/woman. Just keep it real about them! Simple as that!

….You see, the idea of her being there, was to have the audience connect-with-her and for them to THEN, open their wallets/purse, and donate monies. Instead, I fear that she scared ’em with THAT song!
