Whitney Wows At Last Australian Show

Whitney Wows At Last Australian Show

It appears diva Whitney Houston was saving all her love for Melbourne – the last stop on the Australian leg of her ‘Nothin’ But Love Tour’. The legendary star belted out her renown classics, while also serving up some of the best live renditions of her newer material including ‘I Look To You’, which you can watch below:

It really appears the negative press which plagued the first couple of shows re-lit Nippy’s fire, as she’s singing with much more clarity and less of the hit and miss ‘grit’ which seems to be a prominent feature of her ‘new voice’.

As for this performance, she nailed it! Her belting from the 2.45 mark was ‘trademark Whitney’ and really showed that she’s slowly reclaiming some of the vocal power years of hard-living and health issues shaved off. Great performance!

Yet again this is another great version much better than the album, her voice is so unpredictable one minute she sounds a mess then the next she amazing!…lol oh whitney what are we gonna do with you?? I swear she’s enough to drive somebody to drink lol

Whitney has been known in her career not to take care of her vocals. Her first sets of concerts of any world tour she’s done has sucked! The asians and australians weren’t lying about her initial vocals. Audio and vids have been pretty clear on that. Stan or not they sucked with the former making excuses and the latter called “haters” for telling the truth! Poor reviews have come out of both asia and australia. She tends to strengthen her vocal chords and regimen whilst on tour. We are seeing that occur now after 10 freakin concerts since russia. All this prep work and rehearsals should have been done MONTHS before the tour began. It’s not fair to initial concert goers who paid top priced tickets – no matter the country – to suffer sub-par performances whilst she gets her vocals together in a live concert PAID setting!

Stop the smokes whit and she better continue to practice during her month off. ALL songs should be sung at same quality as ILTY, not just 2-3 tracks. She needs to be tour ready in europe or the press there will smash her to pieces. Aussie press is just a warning if she doesnt shape up in europe.

You clearly have some blinds up. You only talk about the subpar vocals (which there have been in some areas), yet you ignore the majority of areas where she sounded decent to great, which is how her voice was the very majority of the tour up until this point, and you sit up here acting like she had nothing but consistently bad vocals.

Not only that, but there were several positive reviews from Adelaide, both Melbourne concerts, and even Brisbane got a positive review. And the 1,000s of videos where Whitney was clearly in good/great vocal shape. You’re really showing your ignorance with this unnecessarily harsh comment.

I so appreciate the videos on you tube. The way she interacts with the audience, the fact that she sings live (I cut her some slack simply for that fact) truly makes her an old-school entertainer. She should teach some master classes to our current crop of R&B “singers.”

    Great job, Whit.

  4. SANDRA March 7, 2010

Awww Nippy! My soul needed this today. Thank you God for bringing her back! Amazing!

  5. james March 7, 2010

Shut up @anonymous- some of her Japan dates were fine- this post is about this clip and this show and she sounds freaking great!

  6. ANONYMOUS March 7, 2010

F*** off @James. Get a life and get real! Remove the blinds and being on 50% of the time aint a world class singer. William Hung sucks as a singer but every now and then he makes a tune sound good too! D***** bag.

Whitney’s last 4shows in Australia got very good reviews as demonstrated by the tons of stellar clips

Europe will not be as hard except stupid germany as they always run stories on her but her fans still keep buying- the UK has heard her new voice and bought lots of ILTY albumm so they won’t be surprised by non-bg vocals.

As long as she has the level of the last 3 shows in australia, hit her money notes, she will be fine. The only concern is the back to back concert with live vocals- she’s singing hard songs with lots of belts and notes live and that is enough to slay even a younger singer and she’s dancing

    God be with her!

Whitney sound’s awesome, i wish she sounded this good at the release of her album, she could have done so much more promo and sold so much more albums

  8. TJ March 7, 2010

    Pretty good Whit!

  9. TJ March 7, 2010

Wow, were Whitney Houston and William Hung compared? Really?

  10. Dave March 7, 2010

She sound great. I’m happy for her.

  11. kerry March 7, 2010

she sounds pretty good- i just love watching her perform. she’s mesmerizing!

  12. ANONYMOUS March 7, 2010

Her vocals were getting tired during the last show. She was straining and a bit hoarse on other songs. Her Melbourne performance of ILTY was much better vocally.

    ILTY – Melbourne, march 1.

What are you talking about? Her voice was hoarse, although few and far in between, but she didn’t strain. The 1st Melbourne concert was where her voice was straining. She has to try so hard to belt to the point that at times it looked like it kinda hurt, not to mention the constenr hoarseness and rasp. When she keeps going for belts there, there’s almost no point where any part of her looks relaxed at all(her face, and her neck bulging more than usual). I Will Always Love You and Saving All My Love from night 1 in Melbourne are perfect ex. for what I’m saying.

As opposed to the night 2 in Melbourne, where her voice has tons more clarity, ease on her voice, and her overall voice sounds a lot more relaxed, and on night 1, she just keeps straining with her belts, but her head voice there was in really good shape at least. Then again it was for both nights

  16. IWALY March 7, 2010

Never count her out. This woman is still the greatest voice of this generation. Nobody has sung her songs better than her, including I Look To You. This is her “I Will Always Love You” of this decade.

  17. Jenny March 7, 2010

2:45!!! “I can lift MY HEAAADDDDDD”

Yes you can!!!! That power and grit and soul and tone of her voice has never left!!!

    So proud of u whitney!!

  18. keenan March 7, 2010

2:48 her clarity, control and sheer bombastic nature of her voice is unbelievable.

I hope she comes to the states- as I’ve said, the more she sings, the better her voice gets, that is her history.

    @Trentgrapejuice:

I listened to kelly sing, ‘when love takes over,’ not good at all, hoarse and strained but i applaud her for working that song. U wish Mimi had the stage presence Whitney has, throwing shade and mess in your kelly post.

  19. BeyonceStan March 7, 2010

Wow. Im impressed. She sounds reaaally good. I thought I never get to say that about her again. This has exceeded my hopes for Whitney, im back on her team.

  20. Quiana March 7, 2010

sounding good whit, but I need you to take care of your voice more ok. Leave the smokes along ok. This is what happen to Chaka ok . Smokes will ruin your voice and drinking too.

  21. X,Y,”and Z” March 7, 2010

Wow….’THIS’ was NOT – what I was expecting! …This lady can STILL sing. It just seems like she has to have everyone upset-at-her to THEN, put some fire-in-her-belly! …But whatever HER motivation, THIS performance shows us – Ms. Whit STILL ‘has-it’ and puts these young b******, (cough beyonce, RIHANNA) to-shame!

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT!

  22. jenny March 7, 2010

Whitney sings songs that mean something to her with fire and passion like no other. She likes to be told that she can’t – i think that the neg press inspired her but whatever it was, keep doing it because she sounds amazing and imspired and ALL LIVE people

    get it mama whit

  23. carl March 7, 2010

    nice, sounding good whit

  24. kandi March 7, 2010

  26. AalexisR (The Bahamas) March 7, 2010

  27. james March 7, 2010

    Good job Whit, sounding good

  28. king March 7, 2010

I love her rendition, she has so much passion singing gospel

  29. Fred March 7, 2010

Even with her voice not being perfect like it used to although she sounds much better here for sure she sings better than the female singers out today. I love Whitney and always will she puts any female singer to shame.

  30. samrab35 March 8, 2010

    Wow bravo Whitney !

  31. kenny March 8, 2010

She is singing that song with so much meaning to her. I love how she is saying ‘thank you for your love and support’. really loving this humble Whitney and she is always saying ‘God Bless you’
I wish she comes to tour here

  32. Anne March 8, 2010

I am just amazed and baffled by those who say Whitney sounds good or great. Either I’m crazy or some of you guys need your ears checked. I use to love Whitney’s voice and I still listen to her old hits, especially her first album. “You Give Good Love” will always be my favorite Whit song from back in the day. But I can’t find much to appreciate about Whitney’s voice now-a-days. To put it as politely as possible, she’s sounds BAD. I read one post that said it would be sad for her to end her career this way and I agree. I hope by some miracle she can come close to her past abilities but I don’t even hear a potential for that. The best of today’s vocalists can sing much better than the Whitney of today whereas the Whitney of the past would have blown them all away.

  33. Nickii March 9, 2010

    @ the comment above
Just because she doesn’t sound like the bodyguard record or Whitney Houston record doesn’t mean that she sounds bad! you are just one of the disillusioned people who want her to sound like she did when she was 28.Tell you what she is 46 now, so it’s time to move on cause she obviously did so did the majority of her fans. Also, if you knew Whitney so well like you pretend to be you will know that Whitney sounds different on every album that she has made so far! AND I BET THAT SHE WILL SOUND DIFFERENT ON THE NEXT ALBUM THAT SHE WILL RECORD. Y’all who wish that she sounds like she sounded 20 years ago need to get a grip, and stop poisoning the life of those of us who truly still enjoy her music no matter what kind of voice she has. I will advise you all to listen her old record from now on and call it a day since it’s that kind of voice that you wish to hear, and because you have silly expectations from this woman. So do it, and stop giving us unneeded stress. Thanks!

    • MS January 3, 2021

Thank you. You said everything I wanted to say and more. Really good analysis.

  34. Diane March 9, 2010

@Anne, don’t post a negative comment for the sake of rebellion.

  35. mrsoulshock March 15, 2010

if what I see and hear in this video is what people call not being able to sing, then we’d better toss our radios out of the window right now, cause none of the auto-tuned chicks who are selling millions these days can do half as good as Whitney. how many singers with raspy and smoky voices do we love and admire? so now that it’s whitney, it’s suddenly a bad thing? stop being hypocrite and living in the past! whitney has changed but her talent is still there!
