New Song: Alicia Keys – ‘Rapture’

Published: Tuesday 11th May 2010 by Trent

Check out this new song that Alicia Keys sang for the ‘Sexy and the City 2’ soundtrack. The record, entitled ‘Rapture’, was originally performed by Pop legend Blondie and features Keys’ input of a few rapped bars. The ‘Sex and the City 2’ soundtrack hits stores on May 25th. Listen to ‘Rapture’ below:

Just like the records on her ‘The Element of Freedom’ LP, this song shows yet another side of Keys’ voice. It’s really amazing how much she has continued to push her artistry to new heights; vocally and musically. No wonder she is respected by so many of her peers and even veteran acts. Great stuff.

Hit or Miss?

  4. nothing but my opinion May 11, 2010

    OK

  5. dodo May 11, 2010

    Alicia’s not singing like she used to. She should have kept her soul.

  6. Fatima May 11, 2010

    Critique Alicia’s performance all you want, but I simply won’t accept anyone to disparage Blondie’s classic. Thankfully, it didn’t have S** and the City theme music in it. All the new parts are garbage. But I still enjoy this.

  7. Callie May 11, 2010

    To the people saying this is a miss needs to go listen to the original version. Alicia did a great job and it’s perfect for the S** and the City movie!!! Alicia hasn’t lost her soul, she’s just not afraid to jump out of genre, this is a classic Pop song!! my fav part is the rap Alicia has a very nice flow <3

  8. Jam May 11, 2010

    The theme is in the beginning and the rap, it’s just so well blended that people may not notice right away.

    I love Alicia’s twist on this, and the rap she wrote is perfect for the movie. You can tell they were having fun recording this one. And please do listen to the original version, because it is a classic pop song.

    Alicia I need for you to release your video (Put it in a love song) ft. Beyonce. Why are you taking so long to release this song. It is a smash hit especially for the clubs.

  13. exposed May 11, 2010

    WOW, ALICIA’S TALENT IS STARTING ON A DECLINE. SHE’S BEEN SAMPLING 70’S AND 80’S S*** FOR A WHILE NOW. NO ORIGINALITY AND HER SINGING SUXX THESE DAYS. NOTICE THEY KEPT THE ORIGINAL BLONDIE VOCALS ON THE TRACK. SMFH.

  14. Glow In The Dark May 11, 2010

    Well alrighty then Miss Keys. You did your thing! Loves you <33 🙂

  15. Chinny May 11, 2010

  16. hardcastle May 11, 2010

    love alicia and she has talent for days, weeks and for always. love her and her music.

  17. KO May 11, 2010

    @Exposed

    shes beem “sampling” since her first album, and its only gotten worse. Its to the point where she steals the entire melody from an old song, only changing a few words, calling it “original”

    And the song….ugh, her vocals have been horrible for the last two albums

  18. hihihihi May 11, 2010

    LMAO

    CHRISTRNA AGUILEA VOICE IS WAKC NOW BC OF STRAINING

    BUT WHEN ALICIA SOUNDS THIN AND HOARSED THEN ITS BC ITS NEW AND DFFIRENT

    LOL

    BIASED

  19. Last Boy on Earth May 11, 2010

    ok Blondie is one of the best bands ever with epic songs and I dont want to see Alicia ruining these classics, and I love her so, NO!

  20. Homewreckers R Us May 11, 2010

    Alicia been losing her touch because shes been made President of Homewreckers Inc. and she doesnt have time to really focus on her music b/c shes too busy doing h**/ homewrecker things.

  21. Last Boy on Earth May 11, 2010

    @chocolate
    I’m WAY under 30 and I know Blondie and most of the bands of the 70s/80s so just shut the f*** up

  22. stan May 11, 2010

    wtf is this?

  23. Fatima May 11, 2010

    @Last Boy On Earth
    Oh my god calm yourself. People with a sense of humor can tell chocolate was being facetious.

  24. koko May 11, 2010

    @callie

    I agree!! This is close to the original with an updated flavor. Well done Alicia!! Since it is for a movie, it is supposed to cater to that.

  25. Joe Sullivan May 11, 2010

    Destiny’s Child’s Independant Women sample this song, just fyi…
    …I like it

  26. ~TeAM WeeZY~ May 11, 2010

    I like the song, but I HATE Alicia’s voice on it! I love Alicia and I think she has a good voice, but Alicia is the last person that could sing something like this. Her voice definitely doesn’t fit the song.

    And I hate that picture of her. She’s beautiful, but she has no natural femininity. It looks so forced.

  27. BEYONCE VS. THE WORLD May 11, 2010

    ALICIA’S VOICE HAS BEEN A MESS LATELY AND THIS WHOLE FREEDOM ERA HAS BEEN A MESS FROM THE PERFORMANCES THE VIDEOS TO THE SWIZZ BEATZ WIFE RUMORS BUT THE ALBUM WAS HOT MUSICALLY

  28. derrick May 11, 2010

    It’s funny how people can come on here and call out Ms. Keys for doing an Amazing Job with a classic, but fail to realize that everyone else does it to……..ie- Beyonce who has stolen all of Des’rees’s songs and call them hers……lol such as the song kissing you which Miss Queen Bee famously said she wrote………So please before you start to jump at Alicia Keys, talk about beyonce first………….And if alicia keys doesn’t have soul then I seriously don’t know what soul is………………. have you heard “Distance and Time, and “How It Feels To Fly”????????? Both were very VERY V-E-R-Y SOULFUL

  29. Fatima May 11, 2010

    Derrick, we’re past the pointless comparisons. Time to put a nail in that coffin.

  30. Nika May 12, 2010

    HOT! Alicia Rocks & for those for you who don’t know, that’s b/c ur a drone of the garbage that is being put out. Just be the mindless shell that the music industry want you to be and get back on that Rated R/Sasha Trainwreck to hell…

  31. remmy May 12, 2010

    My god was the intro long enogh??? I didn’t listen (too short of a attention span)

  32. DM May 12, 2010

    that was HOT!!!!!!! This one makes you want to run to the dance floor!! WAY TO KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK ALICIA!!!!!!!

  33. Dj Gary May 12, 2010

    All in all this is a good interpritation of the song Rapture. Alicia updates it fro todays “kids” and formats it for her style. It pays homage to Blndie and front woman Debbie Harry. Both Alicia and Debbie are New Yorkers and I would lke to see Debbie Harry and Alicia work on a project together. The Blondie original of this song will always be a classic this will not but I would not call it a miss (totally).

  34. britneyislord May 13, 2010

    WOW I liked this A LOT, I would DL it off iTunes. DAMN poor Christina, even an unreleased song by Alicia shits over her lead single!!!!

  35. ass hole July 12, 2010

    defntly a hit. I like her voice its different from all the other same s*** voices out there e.g rihanna, beyonce, mariah carey etc
