It’s official: Ciara has bombed. The ‘Gimme Dat’ performers new album, ‘Basic Instinct’, will debut on the Billboard 200 this week with a lowly 37,940 units sold, entering the lineup at #43. This will be Ciara’s lowest debut in her career to date.
On the other hand, Michael Jackson’s ‘Michael’ LP will nab the #3 spot with 224,910 copies sold. While it is not enough to outsell Susan Boyle or Taylor Swift, the record will have have the highest entry of any Urban release this week.
Diddy-Dirty Money also received a special gift from Santa Claus. The trio’s ‘Last Train To Paris’ will enter the Billboard 200 at #10 with 87,380 units, exceeding all expectations, thanks to massive promotion in the last 7 days. The record did not outsell R. Kelly’s ‘Love Letter’, however, as the R&B King’s album will grab the #6 spot with 150,405 in sales.
On the contrary, Tank was not so lucky as his album will debut at #38 with 41,181 units sold. Still, the R&B crooner has managed to outsell both Ciara and Kandi, the latter of whom has missed the top 50 completely with her ‘Kandi Koated’ release. Ho ho no.

Well, Kandi released her album independently, with two cheap videos, and a very small amount of promotion on local radio stations. It’s a bit different situation from Ciara and everyone else. Something tells me that even if Kandi isn’t doing R. Kelly or even Tank numbers, she’s still making quite a bit of money… since she’s on an independent label and pretty much writes all her own stuff. I don’t think she’s sitting around worrying, trust.

I haven’t listened to the album or the singles at all, but I’m willing to bet that it’s no worse than the crap that has been released this year (Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas), yet they’ve all fared better. It’s living proof that good marketing is what sells an album, not the quality of it.
Hmmm….to be honest I’m not surprised, ‘Basic Instinct’ was handled horribly. But one thing I’ll never do is sleep on an artist I feel is truly talanted.

Early on Kanye said that he has to worry about Nicki but I thought he was just trying to give her confidence. Nicki’s hardcore fans brought their copy in the first week, so who is buying all these other copies from a “so-called mediocre” album? I think many people have accepted Nicki’s style and don’t hold her to the “old-style” rap genre. My girl is stretching her fan base.

Well I believe Ciara’s last album “fantasy Ride” failed because she didn’t remove Chris Brown off the album. People was seriously mad at her that was fans of both her and Rihanna. It seemed like she didn’t care about the situation, and turning her back on the whole “girl Power” movement. Well that was a major mistake, because outside of single sales, she won’t have another successful album. ANd its sad because America don’t forgive females like they do men. CHris brown will be forgiven and have major success before Ciara. She put the Nail in her own coffen. I can most def say, the rihanna incident and rolling with Chris brown was the reason I didn’t buy her last album or this one. Also, I did acknowledge that Taylor was popular before Kanye-gate. Hell, I’ve been hearing her songs on the radio since 2007. She doesn’t have singles that hit #1 , but she gets tons of airplay and a lot of coverage in the media. And I don’t even google the chick or often watch TV programs where I know she’ll be talked about heavily, so I’d say that’s exposure.
The media dwelled on the incident even long after Taylor stopped talking about it. So it reinforced her image as a victim even further. And you don’t know how straight-up CRAZY her stans are. You wouldn’t buy more than one copy of her album, that doesn’t mean nobody else would.
I love Ciara, but how this album “Basic Instinct” about the Basics? I mean really? What song on here, besides maybe “ride” is really from the “goodies”/”1,2 Step” era? Maybe, there are some songs on here similar to “Like A Boy”, but aside from “ride” and “you can get it”, this is just a dance album.
I’m not dissapointed in her, but I was really expecting a real URBAN Jam album full of her old flavour. I have nothing against her going pop, lets face it…. her main competition (Ree-hansa and b****-yonce-sey) are pop….. as has Usher and Chris Brown’s big hits (OMG/Yeah 3 times).

Congratulations to R Kelly and Tank for bringing real R&B back. Now real R&B singers who are true to R&B have a better chance. Music just isnt what it use to be and I think its slowly making its way back to how it use to be. When singers could actually sing. Also congrads to artist like Monica and Fantasia for making 2 of the best and realiest R&B albums of 2010. But dont get it twisted Im TEAMBRANDY all the way. I applaud Diddy-Dirty Money for their 87k and #10 spot. Last Train to Paris is one of those albums that isn’t for everybody, like Diddy said, but I listened to the snippets and songs via YouTube and I loved what I heard. The Deluxe edition songs, Change & Last Night Part 2, are excellent songs as well. So is First Place Loser, the iTunes exclusive song. I really hope LTTP at least goes Gold or even Platinum. This album shouldn’t be slept on at all.
Stop making excuses. Taylor is just a huge artist. She is selling amazingly. Rihanna is doing good but she could be doing better. She has had two massive hits, but no number 1 album, and only 200k her first week, that is ok not great. Rihanna should be selling like Nicki Minaj. Her first weeks sales now should be around 250 to 300k. Rihannas stans act like she’s selling over a 100k a week. Then when you make mention of album sales in the US, they wanna bring up global sales to compensate for meager US sales lol. @Friend, Michael Jackson was always a force to be reckoned with ..his last studio album Invincible back in 2001 sold 366,000 in the first week and went on to go double platinum. Reason it didnt sell more is because both Michael and Sony stopped promoting it because they were fighting….for an artist to go double platinum with little promotion speaks to his popularity…that was the last CD he released other than re releasing his old music.

Rio J Ciara’s CD flopped because she is trynna be pop but fails at it. If she was more urban her CD would have sold. If you are an urban artist you have to satisfy your urban consumer base first. Ride was ok and she should have promoted it more. The other singles were whack with weak lyrics so it was bound to flop. Kelly album at target they only had one row and it was empty, so I asked for it and the worker told me that they had 44 copies left, he went in the back and brought out EIGHT more copies. All I was herein was it was being pushed back again and again and again. I heard a cut that leaked called Shut’Em Up I thought that was going to be on the album? I still bought Ciara’s album, so I don’t care what # she debuted at, I was stocked that R. Kelly sold that much and Kandi hardly sold anything. I wasn’t expecting DDM to sell that much and I expected MJ to sell at least 300K. Well I guess R&B is on the decline in the music industry, because the only 4 R&B acts who sold well this year were Monica, Trey Songz, Sade and now R. Kelly.

Well, MJ’s album is so much better than taylor’s. Why? Because every single track in it does not sound the same. Taylor is so talentless, well you, as a fan should have watched her live performances. Its not once or twice, it is bad all the time. taylor is a new artist..she may top the album sales now, but in decades, she will dissappear, because people are bored with her type of song that always sound similar. MJ still even sells a lot of albums, although his image has already been black (child abuse, plastic surgery, Trials, debts,etc) he has experienced and gone through the rough part, and he is still successful. But taylor? She’s still sweet, innocent and has not experienced the dark side of the business. Well some artists could survive and be back on top again such as (MJ, eminem, britney,etc), but some others fail, and thrown away. One and a half year after his tragic death, Michael Jackson turns back to the top spot of the global album chart with a new set, simply titled as ‘Michael’. The album contains previously unreleased songs,
which wrote Michael in his last years… and 734.000 fans globally bought this set in its first week at retail. ‘Michael’ sends last week’s chart-topper, Susan Boyle’s ‘The Gift’, back down at no.2, despite a 15% sales increase to 455.000 copies. Anyhow, due to high demand before christmas, 32 of the 40 albums on the tally show sales increases this week. For example Take That’s ‘Progress’, which slides at no.3, but grows up another 43% in sales to 414.000 copies, following by the biggest gainer of the week, Rihanna’s ‘Loud’, which loses also one slot and goes down at no.4 but wins 47% in sales to 409.000 copies. Rounds out the top five is Taylor Swift’s ‘Speak Now’ (up 27% to 320.000 copies). Behind ‘Michael’ there are only three other debuts this week: Bump Of Chicken from Sakura, Japan opens at no.10 with their new effort ‘Cosmonaut’ (207.000 copies). The album ‘MCMXC a.D.’ and the lift-off ‘Sadeness Part 1’ with their unusual mixture of gregorian chants, black rhythms and synthie-sounds � la Art Of Noise and Vangelis were enormous global successes. The mastermind behind Enigma is composer, producer and mulit-instrumentalist Michael Cretu, who was born 1957 in Bucarest, Romania and moved to Germany in 1975. First success he celebrated as producer for her wife Sandra (‘Maria Magdalena’) in 1985. Sandra was also the featured vocalist of Enigma. ‘Sadeness Part 1’ started at October 29, 1990 at no.92 on the official german hitlist by Media Control. Already two weeks later it jumped at no.1. At this time no one knew, who was behind the Enigma-project. Short time later the song entered all international charts: no.1 in United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, no.2 in Australia and New Zealand. In the USA it was no.5 on the airplay / sales mixed chart and no.1 on the pure sales chart by Billboard. On the global chart ‘Sadeness Part 1’ went also at the summit.
