R. Kelly has recorded a cover of Michael Jackson’s last #1 single (while alive), ‘You Are Not Alone’. The song was actually written and produced by Kelly for the King of Pop in 1995. Give it a listen below via Rap-Up:
That was a great cover but it was a bit over-produced. I respect the fact that Kelly tried to give it a more modern sound but the studio effects added to the vocals detracted from what could have been a raw and more believable vocal performance. Either way, there is no other singer out today who I would prefer to cover this song but him.

im sorry just leave it to micheal please…
Rkelly is amazing but when micheal sings this song he sangs. Its magical and it always makes me cry all the time. Listening to this version makes me realise that micheal was very special and kells wrote this record for mj but he couldnot deliver it like micheal. That is why alot of people wanted micheal to sing their songs cause he just give it so much life. You can feel the emotions in the song. It just not a song anymore its like a real story. Its like he’s talking to u. That shit is so deep…. But some of these artist just sing the song without telling the story or give the emotion.
I hope yall get what im trying to say!!!!
i love micheal…. and what he gave to this generation.
Also micheal jackson wasnot overated…. justin bieber(that’s overated).. side eye to the other post from B stans… I love B but when she gets to Mj level yall can talk…deuces

I like it! Maybe the younger generation will listen to the words and LEARN something, thats IS the point of covering an old song. R.Kelly did it justice.
R.I.P MJ!

Perfect. R. Kelly’s version sounds like he is talking to a dear friend. Michael’s version sounds like he is talking to someone he is in love with romantically. R.Kelly and Michael – genius in their own right.

This is one of the FEW MJ songs I actually like (also like Ben & Billi Jean). If this doesnt prove R.Kelly Shits on MJ IDK what will

Wow! This is one of my all time favorite tracks from the King of Pop MJ. It’s one of those songs that you would think shouldn’t be touched, but Kells definitely did justice to the song. The man can sing and he can definitely bring emotion to a record. MJ had a very soft distinctive voice that I loved but Kells definitely has stronger vocals. He gets props from me.
I can’t really choose which one is better, I guess it just depends on personal opinion. I do agree with Trent that Kells version was over produced. The beat was kinda annoying to me.
Damn! R.Kelly has been putting out some hot ish lately and giving some hot performances! Trey…..your time may be up pretty soon boo.

In that case, Rkelly should have kept it for himself. Neither version is perfect IMO but RKelly kills MJ Vocally.

MJ is MJ. R. is R. Though I prefer Michael’s version, Kellz certainly did the song justice. And I agree with what the writer said about had he taken the voice effects off it would have been more soulful, especially toward the end. Both versions are touching.
@Diane Great comment.

@Que
He didn’t plagiarize the lyrics. The original beat just had a similar melody as some German song. It’s not uncommon for writers and producer to get sued for pity shit like that. It happens all the time.
Oh
Vocally –
R. Kelly > MJ
Yea, I said it

i cosign with @lol they both sound great but mj slays ( enter your favorite artist here). mj was an a real artist and one of the first of his kind. he mixed influences of all of the greats before him without completely swagger jacking their style, and GET THIS he can actually sing and dance at the same time ! i wasnt a big mj fan, but at least he gave a real music without some silly gimmick to get our attention.

I love it. Of course MJ’s my B. But it’s very good. I think covers help us appreciate the originals more. Or at least this cover made ME really appreciate the original version.
Plus, this song is so pretty, I love it coming out of anyone’s mouth. Justin Bieber could sing it and I’d still love it. Well…maybe.
