Published: Tuesday 7th Dec 2010 by Sam

R&B legend R. Kelly took to the stage on the Late Show With Jimmy Fallon moments ago to perform ‘When A Woman Loves’ – the latest single from his new Motown-inspired LP ‘Love Letter’.

Check out the performance, which is a must-see in every sense of the word, below…

Now that was a performance! There  really is no comparison when measuring up seasoned acts such as Kelly to the newbies. None. Amazing performance.

    @Bubble

It wasn’t lipped. R. Kelly always sings live because you knows how to sing unlike these other kiddie R&B acts out there.

LAWD! When I tell you I nearly threw my laptop out the window! CH!!! This man has me jumping up as if I’m in a church caught by the holy ghost. iCan’t. This is phenomenal beyond words. He’s how old? 43? 42? and he STILL sounds the same way he did when “Bump N’ Grind” debuted. I’m still gagging at that last note he held for filth! You don’t hear s*** like that these days. I felt like I was transported back to the 60’s when the likes of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding SANGGG and you can hear it in the audience. This is just WOW. R. Kelly is getting my coins for this upcoming album because I will support a natural talent. THIS IS WHAT THE INDUSTRY IS MISSING. None of these wannabes are ever doing it. Don’t even get me started on the so-called divas with tarnished voices. Whitney? Mariah? What happened girls? What couldn’t you maintain your voices and build new techniques? Someone needs to send them this video ASAP. Also XTina could learn how to notch down the yelling when trying to belt. Anyway, I will admit the last song was lipped BUT it’s understandable since it’s a remix and he has already proved his vocal ability many times before – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp36DUj_-Do

    R KELLY SLAYED.

R.I.P. to the gimmicks that think they can ever do this. 😀

  8. UGh December 7, 2010

damn!!!!!!!!!!! i watch him perform last night on the soul train awards for a second time and now this. Every time this man sings this damn song im i get goose bumps and i feel like i want to kick off my bedroom slippers and run up and the hall in my house.

Everyone go to this fb page. His album is just as amazing as this performance. I like the 1950’s feel of it. I don’t understand how they could compare to man to a certain artist. smdh 😐

  9. TIMMI December 7, 2010

  11. Brighteyeshazel December 7, 2010

Yes just like that host stated “that’s how you do it buddy”. WOW this man give me goosebumps like know other. I am not going to to give that one guy any more shine and sorry just not worthy of being in the same sentence with Mr. Kelly but new-comers this is how you do it and have longeavity in your career. His voice been preserved well, he sound the same and better since stepping on the scene in the 90’s and believe me I know because I have been a fan and following his amazing career since. Fans let’s support his new album “love letters”. It will be a classic, I heard all the songs on his facebook and all of them are HOTT and worth every scent. We need to keep him around as long as possible. This is how you make number one of the 50 R&B/hip hop artist of the last 25 years. He is not only a great singer, he is also an amazing writer, producer, composer etc. He is really talented and yes a musical genius. WHo does this live? I’m waiting.

Trey Songz, Usher, Tank, Tyrese, other male R&B singers, go home and study this performance and quit bringing us half-ass performances and ghetto song lyrics

  20. Kevin December 7, 2010

Y’all shading Mariah need to check yourselves. Mariah has proven herself vocally over and ore again…she has by no means lost hear voice.

However, no denying that R. Kelly just showed up Flop Songz.

  21. BENJAMIN December 7, 2010

    That was real good.

  22. Hell 2 Da Naw. Take That Thing Down. Expeditiously! December 7, 2010

No need to shade other female artists to uphold R.Kelly. In Whitney and Mariah’s defense, their voices were far more technical to obtain than RKellys. Whitney has vocal issues because inconsistency and lack of stamina, once she gains both of those back, her voice will be restored. Mariah never sings live and when she does, her voice is so different from her studio recordings which is evidence of studio enhancements.

But while yall are throwing shade, RKelly could never garner the success, the millions of fans WW and achievements neither of these ladies have received.

Besides, RKelly ought to be in shape, all those little girls he stay f*ckin and pissing on, keeps him in tip top shape

  23. dd December 7, 2010

Yeah Mariah please take notes. Cause that christmas concert u just taped was a hotmess and u were lipsinging. U continue to disappoint, u and ur fat neck and lack of voice

  24. Beyonce Owns Your Fav. December 7, 2010

  27. Whateva December 7, 2010

Let me get this straight. Trey Songz was throwing shade at R? Huh? Why? How can you throw shade at the one you are copying? Don’t get it.

R is the biz!!! His soul train awards performance was all that. Vocals were prestine. Dang, go R

  28. Alexander December 7, 2010

  32. Alexander December 7, 2010

PPP album was out before anything and got snubbed for any Grammy’s! Also Ready was snubbed out! R Kelly has made history yet again for having an album be nominated without being certified by the RAIA billboards! ” Untitled”. Also “When a Woman’s Love” is up for adult comtemporary album. That is how to come back with a bang!

Trey there is nothing more you can do but worry about the clogged up lanes again!

True King of R&B R Kelly

  33. tt December 7, 2010

Wow, i am speechless….THAT IS A WORLDCLASS PERFORMANCE

No more Taio Cruz (it’s a disgrace this is how us British are represented), Only Girl (in the world) ish… OMG… Dj got us falling in love (wait… I like that one) Goodbye Electro music! Why did Rihanna and Chris have to start this trend with: Forever & Disturbia!!!! Ahhh! Thank God, he is going back to RnB!!!!! You have to see how estatic I am to believe me!!!!! Da Dun Dun *my Nicki Minaj voice*

  37. Heaven December 7, 2010

Old school real RNB…get on it!! lol

  38. Bitchplease December 7, 2010

@Traci Summers lol and your right it’s funny how Trey did and R.Kelly basically like let me switch my style up since this idiot jocking my style. Lil Kim has yet to do that prior to the Nicki Situation. And what the hell somebody Tyrese and Usher need to take notes you stupid. I agree with Trey not too sure about Tank.

  39. Alexander December 7, 2010

Blame Goat Songz for dissing R&B, Blame Kanye West & 50Cent for starting the diss tracks in the game! Blame all the people who supported Trey Songz dissing a legend!
Blame the Drakes for stepping on a hip hop legend!

Music has gotten way immature until ” R Kelly’s Love Letter album” Love is winning versus all evils and Love is the strongest force in the universe! Love is alive.

  40. Kellz4Eva December 7, 2010

R Kelly just s*** all over Trey Songz discography with this performance and the Love Letter album is straight classic

  41. Alexander December 7, 2010

Trey Songz discography is boo boo, Tank music stank also!

  42. Tha Phoenix December 7, 2010

YAS! THIS is how you sing live! None of this shoddy ish we’ve been hearing from male vocalists for far too damn long.

    Thank you, Kelly!

Usher, I love you, but step aside. The real King Of R&B is back.

    @Cap

You must not know R. Kelly. He doesn’t lip sync. Seen in concert before and he sings live all the time. The whole thing was live and raw. Stay mad that your fave is never doing it. Bow to the King!

  44. fan December 7, 2010

Musically R.Kelly is the real deal of R&B music. I would really like to see a collaboration with R.Kelly and JHud, Fantasia, Mary J. Bliege and even Beyonce(Jay-z won’t let that happen R.Kelly/Beyonce) would be great collaborations from these people.

  45. NUNYA December 7, 2010

I dont care who RKelly is touring with Im going to see him. Im not missing him because of a horrible opening act. This performance left me speechless for real.

  46. Bodiddy December 7, 2010

    Fantastic!!!

  47. R.Kellytheman December 7, 2010

    R. Kelly totally called out all those wanna be R&B male vocalist to go get voice lessons. he totally f..ked it up.

  48. Alexander December 7, 2010

Thats how you do it buddy! Jimmy Fallon was real with that comment! Goat Songz can’t hold a bar of soap let alone one note!

  49. ~aMaZiNG.Lee~ December 7, 2010

    YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A-MA-ZING!

I loved every second of it! Whenever, I hear this song I just DIE! And I always wonder how he will fare live, since the song is vocally outstanding, and he just completely SHITTED on every male artist with this right here! This was just unbelievable!

    THE [REAL] KING OF R&B B******! 🙂

  50. Alexander December 7, 2010

Vocally no R&B singer can match his vocals! R Kelly is our Luther Vandross/Michael Jackson! R Kelly is the Modern Day Marvin Gaye with K Michelle as the Tammie Terrell of today!

Love letter album will sell out and reach platinum quickly

  51. sonofbaldwin December 8, 2010

    R. Kelly might be a p******** and likes to p*** on little girls, but he sure can entertain, can’t he?

  52. SchultZie December 8, 2010

    @CAP

It’s possible he lip synced the uptempo part of this performance but he did NOT lip sync the slow version. You can clearly hear his breathing, the change in volume as he moves to and from the mic and the vocals sound different to both the studio version and Soul Train performance. Trust me, I’ve listened to those versions SO many times it’s not funny.

In saying that – and this is coming from a HUGE R. Kelly fan – he does lip sync sometimes. Normally he doesn’t but I have seen him do it. He lip synced Sign of a Victory at the World Cup and I am positive of that. He’s also lip synced Number One and I’m guessing that’s because of the auto-tune.

Anybody who thinks he never lip syncs is clearly in denial. As I said, I’m a huge fan – just stating the facts. It annoys me when he does because CLEARLY THE MAN CAN SING!!! Anyway, this performance is amazing 😀

  53. Auntie Jackie December 8, 2010

Amazing and not lip synched. He’s not Trey Songz

  54. Misty December 8, 2010

Yasssssss I have already pre-ordered my copy of Love Letter!! #classicmusic

  55. PLAIN AND SIMPLE December 10, 2010

    Yessssss

  56. Claire April 12, 2011

Also, at 5:01, he slides his fingers across the whole piano, and the notes go from high to low when it should be going from low to high. So he obviously wasn’t playing the piano either.
