It seems that success finally gone to Lady GaGa’s head. In her recent interview with Vogue magazine, the singer boldly declared that she has “one of the greatest voices in the industry” and that she is “one of the greatest songwriters” in the game today.
However, GaGa didn’t stop there. While continuing to boast about her own talents, she went even further by slamming her fellow performers who choose to lip-sync on stage. Look below for all the details:
“Speaking purely from a musical standpoint, I think I am a great performer. I am a talented entertainer,” the singer tells the March issue of Vogue magazine. “I consider myself to have one of the greatest voices in the industry. I consider myself to be one of the greatest songwriters. I wouldn’t say that I am one of the greatest dancers, but I am really quite good at what I do.”
“It’s so funny when people say, ‘It’s amazing to see how hard you work.’ We’re supposed to work hard!” she says. “I have the world at my fingertips. I am not going to saunter around the stage doing pelvic thrusts and lip-synching. That’s not at all why I am in this.”
“Nothing has changed since I have become a star,” she says. “I am a real family girl. When it comes to love and loyalty, I am very old-fashioned. And I am quite down-to-earth for such an eccentric person.” {Source}
This is yet another example of how artists cross the thin line between being confident in their abilities and being blatantly arrogant. Although GaGa is certainly a competent performer, singer and songwriter, she has gone far beyond herself in thinking that she is one of the best in the industry.
There are several vocalists in the game today – Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Brandy and Jill Scott – who could easily outsing GaGa on any stage (even on their worst days). Furthermore, given the tendency of her lyrics to be perceived as shallow and sometimes quite confusing, her songwriting skills are hardly poetic – “walk, walk fashion baby. Work it, move that bitch c-razy”.
Regarding GaGa’s comments toward lip-syncing and pelvic thrusting, it is rather amusing that she would highlight those points, especially since the most renowned such offender in Pop music today (Britney Spears) was praising her just earlier today. Hilarious.

actually i think she’ll be a legend. she’s like the most talented person you’ll ever find in the pop industry. she can surely sing very well even while dancing and is a piano prodigy, but even more importantly, she’s the most creatively talented woman in the world. what other artist writes all their songs which keep topping charts, designs their outfits, comes up with their music video concepts, etc. and is actually talented at all that. there’s no doubt that gaga’s outfits, videos, and every aspect of her visual art is out of the ordinary, and she can get a whole lot of credit solely for all that.

I see what you’re saying, but those Divas would never, because they don’t need to in the same way. Gaga is competing with VERY pop-centric stars who have much less of a voice and are even more reliant on a gimmick than she can sometimes be. I think she’s just trying to remind people that she actually does have a voice, creativity and writing ability. She’s not all about the crazy ass outfits. Perhaps people calling her “gimmicky” and lumping her into the same category as your Rihanna’s and Ke$ha’s and Nicki Minaj’s (with the outrageous clothing, hair and marketing campaigns) got to her. People are wary of the gimmicks.
Gaga isn’t competing with Beyonce or Mariah, or Patti, or or Whitney, not even Britney in terms of longevity. None of those Divas are sweating of Lady Gaga. Christina was, and you see where it got her. She hasn’t been around that long, and she’s trying to prove her longevity. Gaga is a SENSATION, so don’t get me wrong, but GAGA is new to this compared to those other Divas. She’s not trying to prove that she can sell or that people love her, she was trying to insinuate that she’ll have longevity….because being a fly-by-night-fad may be a fear of hers. People are already starting to tire of her antics, and the sting of imitators she created that are getting more and more outrageous.

Well, you know….s*** I don’t know if I can defend her Lol. Well, she does have a VERY underrated voice and is an amazing performer, but like others have said, there’s plenty better than her. Gaga’s always seemed confident so this isn’t a surprise to me (“BTW will the best album of the decade”) especially considering she doesn’t know how to censor herself. Confidence is one of the keys to success, but pride comes before a fall. Hope Born This Way lives up to the hype. I guess I’m still rooting for Gaga.

It is sad that an amazing artist isn’t allowed to share with others that she is amazing at what she does. Isn’t that the point in discovering what your meant to do with your life?! Lady Gaga should be able to say whatever she thinks about her own work. Every day she brings a joyous feeling to millions of people by giving them that extra boost to tell people, such as the insecure jealous judgmental person who wrote this aricle, to f*** off!
As for the lyrics, sometimes fewer words display more emotion. God forbid if somebody wants you to think and feel a little more emotions then bitterness. OK. I’m going to say what I’ve been saying on Twitter. Being a monster (since Sept 2008), I can get away with saying things non-stans can’t.
First off, I agree with almost everything Lady Gaga said. Currently, she does have one of the best voices in the pop industry. Consider her contemporaries – Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Rihanna etc. She can outsing them all – especially live.
However, I am not happy that she said it for various reasons. People already think she is cocky and arrogant, and by saying what she did in this interview, she did herself no favours. Legends like MJ, Janet, Madonna, MC, Whitney and even the soon-to-be-legendary other two members of the Trinity – Queen B and Princess Brit – NEVER discuss how talented they think they are; they let others speak for them, whether they be peers, fans or the media. They have humility – which is an underrated virtue these days, in my opinion. And they have lasted over a decade in a cut throat industry.
I have little doubt that Gaga’s comments were coming from a confident – not cocky – place, but they come across very badly. Christina Aguilera was the last artist I can think of who boasted about their talents (however justifiably) and look at what happened to her. When you don’t speak in a self depracating manner or big yourself up too much, the media always takes great pleasure in being the first to tear you down if you should ever fall. Heaven forbid Mamma Monster should ever release an album that is relatively unsuccessful; the media will chew her up and spit her out. Especially because they’ve built her up to this high level.
Next, Gaga seems to forget that she’s only been in the industry for three years. Yes, she is slaying most of the other girls, but she still needs to keep it relatively cute. Calling out the faults of others when your own sheets aren’t so clean, is not a good look.
And then of course there is my problem with Gaga’s comments on BTW being ‘the album of the decade’. Regardless of your personal opinion on your current era/album, do not share it with the public. In fact, many artists will say one of the following in relation to a new album:
‘I feel it’s some of the best work I’ve ever done’
‘Personally, I think I’ve never had a better album’
etc. They always say what THEY think – they never say it’s the ‘album/song/tour of the decade’, regardless of how good they think it is, or whether in their belief it is even better than Thriller. Because, once again, Heaven forbid this album isn’t even as good as the brilliant Fame Monster; the media will have a field day.
Anyway, I just wanted to say what I thought. My comments come from a place of love. There is nothing I hate more than hypocrisy, so who would I be if I reamed out other artists for bigging themselves up and didn’t do it for one of my faves?
