Jennifer Hudson paid homage to her idol Whitney Houston at the 2nd Annual Mary J. Blige Honors concert this past weekend. The budding diva performed a rousing set which saw her cover Houston’s version of ‘I’m Every Woman’, as well as ‘I Got This’ from her Gold-certified sophomore set ‘I Remember Me’.

@Dabizness, J-hud has spoken many many times about Whitney being an influence, she has spoken more about Whitney than ANY other artist as her main influence.

I actually always found JHud to come off as smug and arrogant. I think when she was heavier before people would just look pass it. Now, I think it’s finally more obvious with the weight loss and added feeling of superiority! I personally don’t really care for her approach when it comes to singing. She’s loud and simply does not move me. Whitney was never that thoughtless when she sung. It’s about thinking of the lyrics and singing with passion – not only showing off what your capable of doing vocally. JHud is improving, but she still has some growing to do.

I follow her on twitter and some random girl posted (well I know her to be a big fan..but random to you) about going to try to see Jennifer outisde of the studio (she did not have tickets) in London. Jennifer tweeted her back and asked for her name. Looooong story short, she got the girl front row seats and they kicked it backstage together and was talking like old girlfriends. What other celebrity does that? Also…look on youtube…just last week some fans were waiting outside her hotel all day and she went out to speak with them, sung Mariah Carey & Whitney songs …she even let some fans sings for her and she put it on her camera phone.
