It’s been almost 3 years since the release of Michelle Williams‘ last studio album ‘Unexpected’. Since then the vocal powerhouse has severed tied with manager Mathew Knowles, re-engaged with theatre, and is now making another foray into the world of music.
Currently in the studio with hitmakers Rico Love, Jim Jonsin, among others, Williams says of her new material:
“My album will be ‘inspirational pop.’ Think of Katy Perry’s ‘Fireworks’ or Natasha Beddingfeld’s ‘Unwritten.’ I want to give people a message of hope while at the same time get them moving with dance inspired tracks.”
So as to whet the appetite of fans, the Destiny’s Child anchor has released buzz single ‘Love Gun’ via our good friends over at Concrete Loop.
Take a listen to the Druski produced cut after the jump…
The whimsical cut once again sees Williams flirt with Dance/Pop. However, for yours truly, this is much more commercial and accessible than some of the similar sounding tracks on ‘Unexpected’ – many of which were arguably ahead of their time, hence didn’t strike the chord they could have (not to mention shoddy handling of the project).
Still, in being forward thinking, ‘Gun’ is definitely a step in the right direction for this child of Destiny. One which has us amped to see what she brings with the project as a body of work.

I actually really like this. Wasn’t a big fan of Unexpected but I do agree she was ahead of her time with that Pop/Dance record that’s dominating the airwaves.
This is really good. I hope this brings her some musical success like her other bandmates. Greart job Michelle

I really like it. A sound like this would do very well in Europe. She has the talent, she has the look, she has the right attitude. I honestly believe her success now only depends on good dedicated promotion . Go ‘head Michelle

YAAAY I LOVE THIS!
Miss Tenitra is back! So happy!
Oh and, Michelle was one of the FIRST to do the Dance-Pop/Electronic sound fusion with R&B back in early 2008….Unexpected was just incredibly-underrated…

Michelle has a hit with this song. I see this song doing very well overseas. I only see this song doing well on the gay scene here in the US. With proper promo this song will be huge in the UK.

I mean i like it but for a “likeable song” on the album and this is coming from a person who fell in love with her upon hearing on the survivoe song way back in da day…Lol, I have and still currently listen all the albums..Beyonce is a GREAT ARTIST.. Kelly is also a WONDERFUL artist.. Michelle has the potential to be in the genre too… She should have went Rnb because I’m tired of this type of dance I wanna hear some funky throwdown new classic grooves.. I love Michelle but if they don’t promote this girl or the other two right they should have a comeback No doubt… But Chell has a powerhouse voice and she doing songs like this Katy perry meets La Roux Meets Rhianna meets Kesha meets video game type of sound and her voice is not maaaade for that..Smh but I’ll buy her album either way i JUST love anything new from her…yiiiiiikes…lol

dance music is one string away from a pull…….it’s getting old, if J. Lo couldnt’ get a “good hit” , then who else is even gonna dare? Maybe Kelly pulled it off becuz she actually workd with some1 who eat lives and breaths dance/club euro

It’s reminiscent of Robyn’s “Indestructible” or “Dancing on My Own.” It’ll definitely find a place in gay clubs and disco’s around the world. She’s always been good with making some minor dance hits. I like to see these girls making music and performing, so all my best to Michelle (as well as Kelly and Bey who are moving up the singles and albums charts this week!)
