Her videos,songs,performances even her meltdowns were all ICONIC. She started a new era and tons of young female singers followed her footsteps, she changed it into a sexy mature way in 2001 then everybody turned into sexy mature women image all of whom copied totally Britney. Baby One More Time and Oops I Dıd It Again had the strongest impact in popular culture. Britney DEFINETELY deserves a tribute.. If anything, Madonna needs a damn tribute. Britney’s PRODUCERS AND WRITERS CREATED A NEW POP SOUND AND THAT’S ONLY BECAUSE MUSIC WAS STILL EVOLVING! Nsync, Backstreet Boys, and NKOTB had that same generic sound as well! Britney is nothing but white, trailer park trash who got lucky in the industry. She was never innovative or unique! Well. i took my time to read all your comments…. Lets make this clear.. I’m a die hard Britney fan since 1998… im gonna try to be as objective as i can… and talk from facts.
A) When Britney came out, Pop Music needed a fresh, young spokewoman.. simce Madonna and Janet were already legend at that time… (1998). Baby One More time became the first album n single to hit #1 at the same time with the same tittle. sold Millions of copies worldwide and YES, open the door to Christina, Jessica simpson and Mandy Moore at that time!!
B) Lets not forget the Vmas are about videos and “Baby one more time”‘s video became one of the most iconics trademark of her as an artist with the school girl outfit. what it helped her to perform for the 1999 vma’s with NSYNC..
C) Opps i did it again Era got her one of the best selling album with 2 million+ copies sold in less than a week. Once Again, her Performance at the Vma caused controversy cuz people thought her outfit was see trough. and she rocked the vmas that year…
D)I’m a Slave 4 u.. Video and performance.. ICONIC moments in music. enough said
E)Her Kiss with Madonna is one of the Greatest moments in music history.. not only for Mtv.. it represented 2 generations of Pop icons together. Plus her Toxic Video became a high standard for Pop Videos to come.
F) Even her “worst ” performance (notice i used “worst” cuz i like it) got the attention of people for months and the VMAS were the talk of the whole planet..
Bottom line is MTV needed to incorporate Britney to the show for ratings.. the show previously was looking absolutely boring (Adele, Katy perry, bruno mars.. BLAH). they knew they needed that extra something to boost interest. lets recap too that an VMA without Britney = no ratings.. check this .. all the vmas where she wasnt even part of the audience were miserable when it came to ratings.. especially cuz Britney is an INTERNATIONAL POP STAR… lots of big names here in the US are nothing in other countries.
So yeah, Britney does deserve a tribute. She’s part of the mtv family and POP culture for 13 years. shes no newbie and her fan base is HUGE!
