R&B singer Brandy decided to leave her girl-next-door image at home in favor of a bolder, avant-garde themed look for her featured spread in ‘YRB Magazine’. It should go without saying, she looks undeniably hot. Everything from the eccentric pieces, to the new cropped hairdo works!
The vocal technician also spilled details surrounding her upcoming LP, ‘Two Eleven’, aptly named after her birthday and the date of Whitney Houston’s passing.

On her hotly anticipated collaboration with Frank Ocean:
“His music speaks volumes, and I was able to experience that before everyone else knew,” she says. “I always knew he was really special and I just wanted to see how we could vibe, what we could come up with together in the studio this time around. He’s just a genius. I think his songs have so much substance and so much depth, and you need that on an album as well.”

Why must they change the dark beauty of a sisahs complexion. Clearly she looks pale and airbrushed to look light skin. Since Whitney passing I am seeing a lot of her lately. The pyramid pose with the leg, and the one eye means the “Eye of Horus”(devil worship). Then the black spade over her head. This clearly has two meanings. 1. This represents blacks in the industry as the black spade reference has been made in numerous songs from Jayz (Excuse me Miss song) and others. Also the Freemason ceremony has the person wear a bag over their head with rope around their neck as an ritual. Brandy has crossed the dark side, since Ray J had Whitney sacrificed for fame.

Its more like the picture effects settings are what shows up Brandy being lighter rather than intentional skin whitening.
I guess she channelling some Whitney & definately see Monica from Still Standing era in her pics here but i like the short hair and styling on Brandy.

I like it, I see the pictures as art. I don’t think that she’s trying to deny her race or ethnicity. I think if she was walking around trying to present herself as something other than a black woman than that would be totally different. I think sometimes Brandy wants to step outside the box and just experiment, it’s not for people to read so much into. I love the pics (except for the one where her face is covered). It’s cute, but I expect her to change and try something else for the album, videos, era, etc. Keep dabbling into the new B’roka. Love it!

I usually don’t get into the back and forth stuff when it comes to the blogs but it’s really annoying now. Ladies and Gentlemen, step out of your bubbles for a moment and look at this photo shoot for WHAT IT IS! Artistic experimentation and an opportunity for Brandy to step out the box. Do you honestly feel that Brandy sat with the editors of the magazine and said “make my skin lighter…I don’t want to look dark..”? OF COURSE NOT! it’s the overall image of the photo shoot that the photographer is trying to evoke. If it was supposed to be a dark photo shoot, then that’s what it would have been. The high saturation is OBVIOUSLY done on purpose. So why is everyone on here acting like Brandy asked for it to be this way? And even if she didn’t put a STOP to them editing it like this, why should she? This is what the magazine wanted and maybe she wanted to try something different so let her flap her wings and fly. Stop trying to clip her wings and put her into this box. I applaud her efforts to be a little edgy but still keeping her respect. Great photoshoot, great article! Keep it coming Brandy!
As for the starz…PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop spreading negativity and ignorant comments that are obviously unecessary. DUH it’s obvious that they lightened the photoshoot but it’s the look they were going for. Take it for it’s artistic approach and stop throwing “black girl” tags all over the damn place. People are so interesting. Photography for photo shoots is different then your iphone app… and so is lighting. You can have 1000 watts of light on a person and that will make a person look very different. I’m speaking as a photographer and a dark skin person. People should really consider what they’re saying before they say it often your “opinions” are based in ignorance

It is just artistic expression, it would be just as beautiful if the magazine decided to bronze Brandy’s entire body and make her chocolate for a certain effect. It would be just as exotic! Brandy’s not walking around claiming to be Asian, so I am not offended. There are some artist that are confused when it comes down to that.
People are right to bring up Beyonce, becuase she gets a lot of crap for this too. Still it’s ok for other white artist to look like animals or aliens. I agree that black people need to stop being so critical and get rid of the tags. If your not looking like a church girl then your doing too much. SMH… People really need to explore more often. Black women can be sexy, unique, adventurous and creative like anyone else!

It’s one thing if you’re constantly having photo shoot after photo shoot with your skin lightened intentionally. It’s another thing if you do one photo shoot that’s a little gritty and edgy. Like seriously. Then if she were to paint her skin bronze or dark brown, people would ask why they made her so damn dark. Can never win. People ask for Brandy to do something interesting…They wait for her to do things that they wouldn’t expect her to do…But the moment when Brandy does something to step outside her comfort zone, and outside of the box like this, she’s instantly judged and ridiculed beyond belief! This is not a recurring thing for her! She’s giving you avant-garde, fashion forward appeal with this photo shoot.
And then comes the predicatble negativity, just like clockwork. And then you all wonder why she retreats back into her shell…her comfort zone…Please, Please, PLEASE stop restricting her, and just let her live her life.
