I thought she did good I mean there were so much LIGHTS and BACKGROUND EFFECt that it was sort of hard to keep looking at HER. I will say the way she was out of breath at the end I am happy she only did ONE performance. I can’t imagine how she is doing a whole tour, I mean she didn’t do CRAZY choreography. She was dancing in one spot so she should not feel tired after 3 minute song!

Surprisingly good performance. She tried, I hope she continues on this path. She needs to improve cardiovascular fitness and lung capacity (I.e quit smoking – Only naturals can smoke and sing). She can be amazing with a bit more time to rehearse, you can see she worked on this, especially the vocals; she’s not exactly a natural at anything she was doing but A for effort. I’m glad she didn’t try and sing when she ran out of breathe because it would have sounded bad. She was 200% better than Katy Perry’s “singing/performance” earlier in the season.

Dead @ WHUT deflecting the topic of the sunken battleship…and instead attacks Beyonce’s movies when the categories of those two movies were not action packed so they are not expected to do extremely well. How can she be the worst when she has more “winning movies.” The HIVE can talk #1 movies, and albums can the navy do the same? We know you are mad and fuming that battleship flopped harder than Rated R especially with all that promo.

I’m tired of hearing the word “improving” as a defense or excuse for Rihanna’s illegitimacy as a performer and overall mediocrity. This bitch ain’t on her first or second album. She’s 6 albums deep, her probationary period is over. What you see is what you get.
If she can’t sing by now, then she will never be able to.
If she can’t dance by now, then she will never be able to.
If she can’t command a stage by now, then she will never be able to.
She’s had close to a decade to significantly “improve” to the point of being SEASONED, but she hasn’t, so…

To the joker above I have given credit where it is due. I once said that the Grammy performance was good. This performance right there was not good. Take away her dancers and the smoke and what do you get? Her dancing was not good at all. I MEAN HER DANCE STEPS ARE SO SIMPLE YET THE LITTLE SHE DOES HAVE NO ENERGY. now people don’t be delusional. She sounds better in that performance but why must she stop singing all the time? is it really hard to sing these simple pop songs. Aside from her being a bit out of breath at the very end (and we all know what is causing that, nothing wrong with a bit of weed but I ain’t a singer!) that performance was fine. Her vocals were the best I’ve heard from her in quite a while and her dancing is coming along, at least she doesn’t make the mistake of trying to sing and dance at the same time – she has enough trouble doing one at a time. I think this song being squarely in her vocal comfort range probably helped. As for TGJ, you actually dare to call yourself unbiased? Oh please, there are two types of Rihanna shade in your posts about her – blatant shade and the slightly more sublte shade shown in this article, you don’t fool us. You are starting to sound really stupid about Rihanna when its posts regarding her that account for most of your clicks on this site ;o)

People need to stop with the Beyonce comaprisms for crissakes. Rihanna is not a “vocal” kind of artist, she is an “entertaining” kind of artist whose area of specialty is in entertaining and making catchy songs.
Rihanna can sing better than acts like Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Ke$ha, Lady GaGa(they’re on the same level) etc. Has she ever claimed to be a vocalist? Hell no. She knows she isn’t a vocalist as such, but her voice is good in tonal quality and is entertaining enough for her listeners, hence the number of Hot 100 #1s and top tens she has.
People ought to stop criticising her for her vocal ability, because singing is NOT her area of specialty. But she can sing to some extent, at least she tried with “Russian Roulette”.
People need to realise that not every artist is a VOCALIST and vice versa. Rihanna can sing to some extent, and has more vocal range than Lady GaGa, who is also a contralto. People ought to accept Rihanna for who she is; an entertainer, not a technical singer. Lady GaGa isn’t much of a vocalist, either. But I don’t hear pple criticising her singing as much as they criticise Rihanna’s.

I’m by no means a fan of Rihanna, I’m just tired of hearing people criticising her singing ability or lack thereof. She is NOT a vocal kind of artist like Adele and co. She is an entertainer artist with catchy music. She has never presented herself as a vocalist, nor has she ever vied for a vocal performance grammy nomination. Even if Chris Brown and Lady GaGa can sing better than Rihanna, that doesn’t mean the difference is by far, nor does it mean that CB and GaGa are phenomenal vocalists by any stretch of the imagination. And no, Rihanna is not evenly matched with Perry vocally, she’s a bit better

If you are a singer with talent you are suppose to be a vocalist! Rihanna used backtracking to cover up a lot of missing pieces. The out of breath should not have been nowhere in this less than 3mins performance that is, after she uncovered and came out of the box. Stop! giving her credit for doing something that she should be able to do in her sleep at this time. She’s an image and nothing more. She sings live! who came up with that mess. I agree on one thing, stop!! putting her in the same sentence with Beyonce there should never be a comparison and we all know why!!! Not every singing artist is meant to be a VOCALIST. Madonna, Rihanna, GaGa, Janet, Akon, T.Pain, etc aren’t vocalists, but they’ve had amazing career success. The simple fact, which most people don’t seem to get, is that there are different kinds of artists. Some artists are entertainers e.g all the ones I mentioned above, then some other artists are “vocal artists” I.e artists known for their vocal abilities e.g Beyonce, Alicia, India, Jill Scott, John Legend, seal, even Usher and many more. Then there are performing artists(artists that excel at live singing) and the ones that are known for their voices quality to be called PERFORMERS.
Entertainers and Performers are two different things. Rihanna, Britney, J.Lo, Bieber, etc are entertainers. Performers are Whitney, Mariah, Toni, Lionel, Beyonce, Legend, etc

At first I thought it was going to be a promising perfomance with the opening verse actually sounding quite good , but then I got the same ol’ Rihanna that I expected: poor vocals, pitch problems everywhere, stiff robotic choreography, running out of breath for no reason and I don’t even want to get started on of the monstrosity of that last note. People keep on saying give her a break, she’s improving, but the girl has been in the game for about 9 years now, she ought to be better, but she wont, because you can’t teach talent.

This performance was pretty decent, I guess her vocals will never be clear and concise though. I like the idea of the dreads, but the execution was just….hhhmmm. I’m still suprised this song has not gone number 1, like this was the best bet, on the whole TTT album….Honestly, Navi whats going on? No shade, just wondering.

It was a good performance. I don’t agree with anyone who says she can’t sing. I think people have a problem appreciating unique voices. Is that to say she’s a perfect singer, of course not but she is Rihanna and she owns that. I personally like her dancing because it seems natural to me and not like someone who has been over choreographed like most singers who really can’t dance at all.

The truth is, every singer in the industry has some uniqueness to their vocal tone, there are definitely some similarities between some artists’ tone. I don’t agree that some acts have unique voices and others don’t. EVERY artist has a vocal tone unique to themselves. The main problem with people who say Rihanna can’t sing is that they fail to realise that her voice is not the FOCAL point of herself as an artist. She is more of an ENTERTAINER and fashionista

But what an absolute F-A-I-L Camp-Fenty has now revealed themselves to be! ‘Battleship’ has now returned, World Wide, $260-Million. But it had cost some 400-$450-Million in final, ‘bring-to-theater’ costs.
..That ‘to date’ $260-Million falls-far short, if we’re to use Universal studio’s ‘final $260-Million’ number. In THAT case, Battleship had to return $364-Million in order NOT to fail. Battleship, for all intents, has now ended its overseas theater run. So now, any monies to be returned are to be from the U.S. domestic market. But said ‘U.S. domestic market’ is the weakest yet for Battleship – it only returned $25.3-Million its first weekend, it was projected to do $45-Million.
..And ‘rough seas’ only get “rougher” as Battleship goes to war with ‘MIB 3′, and the record-setting, Kraken-like ‘Avengers’.
What a fool that Rihanna! She so badly wanted to outdo CBreezy, for what he’d done with ‘Takers’, that she “blindly” signed-up for ‘Battleship’. You see, the film’s producers knew EXACTLY what they were doing: If Battleship sets sail to fortune’s shores, then there’s ‘enough’ glory to go around. So the producers, and her co-stars all smiled in Rihanna’s face. They all now smile while as their respective PR teams now collectively “pull the trigger” and make her the fall guy. Did you REALLY think Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard, or Brooklyn Decker would carry the blame?
..Which faces did we all see on those ‘Battleship’ billboards? And of those, who easily has the better know name, AND was/is most recognizable? Certainly not Taylor Kitsch! (Hint?) Well, it’s the very face we saw on all the blogs doing interviews and ‘Battleship’ promotion – everywhere: RIHANNA..!! Of course!
And so, where are we? Well..
1.) We know Rihanna is without doubt, a “singles artist”.
2.) We know she’s brought nothing but strife and bad luck to ALL the men in her life – Chris Brown and Matt Kemp.
3.) We know that Def Jam had drastically cut her budget after she under-performed with ‘Rated R’; which is why she went shopping with trademarked material in-hand to the different video directors looking for cut-rate work (she had to recently ‘settle judgement’ after being sued by video director Dave LaChapelle).
4.) We know Nicki Minaj is now the new “IT GIRL”.
5.) We know that her one-time mentor, Jay-Z, has now lost all faith in her, as he’s now pushing HIS “new” IT GIRL: Rita Ora.
6.) And we NOW finally know that Rihanna is certainly NO ‘Box Office draw’..!!

Rihanna has a lot of fans and this is what helps her…compared to her other performances this is an improvement. But please do not compare her to Chris Brown or Beyonce as this two are absolutely great performers and singers. It is a poor performance sorry. I love Riri for what she is and has to offer, but I’m under no illusion that her vocal skills and performance are lacking.

I thought the performance was actually pretty good/solid. She sounded good…you can tell she took her time with the vocals. She did pretty well on the bridge…wish she woulda took time to breathe before singing the last line…that’s the same thing that happened to her at 2011 AMAs when she did WMN and OGINTW but both performances were good. Kudos, Rih! This performance will definitely help push the single more…12th No. 1 single, anyone?
