Get very excited!
Minutes ago, Alicia Keys’ latest single ‘Girl On Fire‘ surfaced online, three days before she performs the number at the 2012 VMAs.
Oh, and if that wasn’t enough to strike your fancy…. it features two verses from Rap Empress Nicki Minaj.
Heat up below…
Stunning!
Boasting clean vocals and moving theme from Alicia and Minaj’s strongest lyrical efforts since the ‘Pink Friday‘ era, it’s safe to say the girls have their hands on a with this one.
Here’s hoping it gets the radio push and ‘epic’ video it deserves.

Agreed. This sounds like a shelved track from Pink Friday featuring Alicia Keys. . . Nicki did kill it, and no shade on her part for being on that sinking ship Alicia NO MA’AM! I loved her on The Diary that was a SOLID album but this? looking bad already. . . That album cover? Her hair is slicked back like Memphis Blues back in 1921 it would be cool if you could sing like Whitney, or at least Beyonce but she just be yellin songs and the kids be over here clapping their hands like they gon make it number one on iTunes. . . .Oh well she better start sacrificing sheep, or cows, or whatever it is that she is doing to keep her on this record deal. . . there are other artist 10 times better but she still surviving. . . >.> no ma’am.

The song might mean a lot to her etc but its not really what will sell these daysm I love and miss the alicia keys from the first 2 albums .She was more urban back in the days maybe its that ?. I’m kind of feeling what you’re saying. Why let other artists take so much credi when most of her fans just really want to hear her? I loved her version of “New Day” and would have loved for her to release it, with just her and no rapping, but looks like that didn’t happen. I don’t know what the other version of this song sounds like so I really can’t give an opinion yet and I still don’t understand three different versions.??? Anyway I love Alicia’s voice on this. I guess I was just expecting something a little more up tempo. Still love Alicia and anything she puts out but I’ll have to give the other versions a few listens before I can compare it to her other music as to what I like most. I’m sure this will grow on me, in whatever version I listen to. I also like her version of ESOM more than the Jay-z version. Looking forward to the performance on the VMA’s.

Her voice is psychotic in every song she’s on. Along with the faces she makes and her constant desperate attempts to out do Gaga in the outfit dept that fails over and over again. This is why Lil Kim can’t stand her. Nicki thinks she’s brought something new and special to music when all she’s done is make an ass out of herself and don’t give credit where its due.

Less can be more and the vocals are WAY too much. She’s at 10 on the first verse for no reason, she should only be hitting those giant belts on the second chorus. The song never builds, it just comes right out yelling at you. It’s virtually unlistenable. And it doesn’t need that little “shes just a girl but shes on fire” refrain at the very end, the song was already over. It’s a miss for me and i wont be checking for this song again. With the title, and promo pocs Iwas expecting something fresh from Alicia Keys but this is more of the same just with Nicki Minaj shoved on where she isnt needed

Alicia Keys gets a girl bye for this song!
I haven’t been here for her since she stopped singing within her range and getting voice lessons. But other than that, she keeps making songs about the same thing with weak lyrics. You would think with all that drama in her life she could come with something more inspired than this crap. That beat was recycled. I haven’t heard progression from her since the As I Am and lord knows even that album had major flaws. I never thought I would say this but I’m considering not buying this new Alicia Keys album.

I hate this generation where talent is overshadowed by too many fake artists trying to be freaks. Like I said in another post, you either are or aren’t a freak. Alicia does not need other artists to make beautiful music. I have a hard time accepting rap music mixed with other, what I consider beautiful music. I didn’t care for the Jay’Z version of ESOM and I don’t like the 50 cent version of ‘New Day”. This is coming off as a little annoying, unless it grows on me a lot. I’d really rather just hear Alicia and plan to do that. It’s just a little irritating the rappers are getting their versions out first. Seems like that just leaves Alicia on the back burner, so to say. She is better than that. She should be first and out in front with HER music. Alicia is a very talented lady and I enjoy hearing her. If I wanted to hear the other artists, I would. I feel like they’re being forced on us because we love Alica’s music. So, yes it is good we can just enjoy Alicia’s music because there is more than one version. Thankful for that.

[...] Over stomping percussion, Minaj opens the track with the first of two understated verses, before Keys’ trademark soaring vocals and a simple, delicate piano melody kick in. Keys once again proves she’s the master at melding pop piano balladry with hip-hop, even getting Minaj to dial down the theatrics for the heartfelt song. ”Girl On Fire” is the title track off Alicia Keys’ forthcoming album (scheduled for a November 27 release) and you can hear the song over at That Grape Juice. I like Alicia but this song just ain’t it. I was going to stop playing it until I heard the chorus and after that I just couldn’t stand to listen to it. Her voice or the lyrics does not fit this song. Nicki was alright though. But other than that this is song is wack to me.
