JLS are rebranding and just in time.
With One Direction having snatched their Pop lane, many wondered what the guy’s next move would be.
The conundrum ends today with the arrival their new single ‘The Hottest Girl In The World’. For, not only does the Bangladesh produced cut provide an emphatic answer, it’s a fairly enjoyable one at that.
Take a listen below…
We like.
For both the group and producer, the track is fairly fresh terrain. Indeed, while distinctly “Timberlake circa 2003″, the song’s edgy brand of Urban Pop presents the quad as “credible” for the first time in their four year run. What’s more, with Bangladesh on the tin, we anticipated hard drums and a Hip-Hop skew. However, proving his versatility, he instead delivered a guitar-driven number, which manages to appease the group’s Pop core, while inviting a new audience in. Quite a feat, given what the quad represented to the masses (see: warm, sticky, cheese).
Color us impressed. Now, we just hope their forthcoming album ‘Evolution’ lives up to its billing when it arrives on November 5th. With confirmed production from the likes of Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins, The Runners, and Midi Mafia, the signs look good. Very good.
‘The Hottest Girl In The World’ hits iTunes on October 21st.
Randomness: The falsetto notes scribbled all over the track will be uber interesting to hear live.

I liked the production in different parts of the song – the lyrics weren’t bad either, i think it’s defo a grower for me – if they do a video for it then my mind might change..

I’m not even checking for them, but the song is not bad. The vocal arrangement is messy here and there, but the track is ok. And I agree that it’s a grower…
At least it’s not electropop

Me no likey, they’re giving me too much Justin Timberlake, Nysnc and FDM. Not for me thanks, let me know when they come back with something more original, and good luck with them trying to pull this off live.

This is good. Hopefully this DOES signal the end of their soggy chicken, soggy lettuce, 3 melted mozzerallas, dry dressing, wrapped up in a soggy tortilla type music. SO far all of their albums have had high sales (Platinum plus) but they don’t have any credibility in the RnB world.
Hopefully they’ll have a mature image to go with this more mature sound! Everything’s been a bit too Happy Meal, full of colour, no substance…but you get a free toy! (the cd)

Why do I get the feeling that half of them date white women exclusively and the other half of them are homosexual?

Wow. I guess N’ sync really influenced today’s boy bands. I would like this song more if it was something a little more updated done for JT. Justin would kill that! I’m not knocking them though, I kinda like it (kinda meaning in a way).

The only good thing I can say is that it seems R&B (even though more on pop side) is coming back into the main stream. It’s a shame it coming from artists like Justin Bieber, JLS and Cheryl Cole, but hopefully it allows true R&B artists like the Brandys’ Mononicas’ Kelly Rowlands’ and even Trey Songs get more shine and younger generation to get into it.

It is a decidedly over-produced affair, possibly to distract from their overall lack of vocal prowess but the chorus is catchy and it will likely garner them a bit more credibility in terms of relevance. Fair play to them.

I must be the only person who actually likes this track lolll. For them, it’s something different and definitely an improvement. I think it’s their best offering to date and I hope it does well for them. I actually thought they were talented on the X Factor and prefer them to 1D by far, but they’ve never reminded me of why I initially liked them in anything they’ve released outside of the show. They must be tripping though if they think they can pull those falsetto notes off live. I defo have to see that. HOPEFULLY they’ll impress.

I loveeeeee JLS but only 50% of me likes this song and the other 50% dosent know what to thank lol I think that’s a good thing lol I love Pop/dance and I loved there Pop/dance music. I think they weren’t makeing big because there videos we’re always just ok. If they would have had Rihanna,Katy Perry and Gaga like videos they would have made it bigger outside the UK. They not getting the fact that there a Black Boy Band that makes pop music, they needed to work way hard if they want to make it like 1D or Justin Bieber . They need to make the Gurls live (and not the Girls) but the Gurls liveeeeee! Lol
