India Arie just summed up why singers call this woman the vocal bible. You hear it right here in this video. I know some people will never understand, but I hope this video gives you better understanding. Brandy Norwood is everything musically! The way that she sings can not be compared to anyone. She’s been the best vocal instructor I have ever had, and I’ve never even met the woman. She’s just amazing. I hope she realizes that she doesn’t need the popularity again that she has already achieved. She’s inspired singers, musicians, and her peers. She’s already one of the most successful r&b singers of all time. Brandy could stop selling music today and still go down as one of the best. I hope she understands that now.

You will never understand Brandy’s gift because you aren’t a singer… Real singers know how difficult it is to do what Brandy does…. Its very hard to fit all of those runs into such a small gap… and she does them so effortlessly while staying in key and on pitch… and her tone is sooo perfect… and her breath technique is amazing… and lets not mention the harmonies… Some people fail to realize that its not always about who can hit the highest note… Its about who can control their voice and use it to the best of their abilities. and its about technique and delivery… If you are talking about powerhouse singer then yes you are talking about Whitney Mariah and Patti… as far as the vocal bible goes, that is Brandy all the way… her voice is something that needs to be studied… Anyone can learn to do Whitney and Mariah riffs and runs…. but I have yet to hear anyone duplicate Brandy’s vocals successfully… If you dont understand that, then I dont know what else to tell you…

Brandy’s Stye of singing/runs/harmonies/tone/delivery/vibrato
are actually more difficult then mariah and even Whitney at times…Yes Brandy looked up to Whitney and both of them have a one of a kind voice..but Brandy’s vocals are top notch..perfect pitch…She is capable of doing runs/vocals far beyond what you hear on her cds..(example: her acapella videos in her bathroom) Mariah and Whitney are True Sapranos and Mariahs Technique (especially in the 90′s) was unmatched..however Brandys voice is equally as talented in its own right..but sometimes it takes a singer to see just how much inspiration her voice gives

I am not denying her talent and unique technique, but one of the major problems all STARZ have is overestimating Brandy’s abilities and underestimating Mariah’s and Whitney’s gifts. Brandy’s specialty is her runs and rifts, Mariah’s specialty is her range and high notes (whistle register), and Whitney’s is her powerful runs and inflections. Giving props to Brandy is not the same as shading anyone else. And that’s why she doesn’t get props enough. It’s easy to praise Whitney and Beyonce and Mariah because of their strong powerful voices. The fact of the matter is Vocal bible is the title given because of the many textures of her voice, it’s like chapters in the book of vocals.
Beyonce is a powerhouse but can’t compare to powerhouses like Whitney Houston so her voice isn’t praised, but her overall talent/work ethic. If Beyonce, Tamia, Kelly Price, Jennifer Hudson, etc sing a Whitney song it wouldn’t mean much because power is common. People on American Idol hit her notes. But Brandy is able to tribute Whitney because Brandy is able to add soo many vocal layers where you don’t judge her by her hitting the expected notes. No one says ( Brandy shouldn’t touch a Whitney song again) because she doesn’t rely on power.
Mariah herself is not a vocal bible because she does. This is the reason why as Mariah’s octave range goes down she’s not as interesting a singer. She doesn’t even attempt her growls or runs more.
Whitney is a classic singer, her ability to emote and making the blandest lyrics pop was what she brought but one can’t really “learn” to do Whitney because they go for power/belting. Brandy harnonizes to her own vocals and goes into easy transitions , she kills riffs. If you pay attention to some Brandy songs they read like vocal lessions. “Wildest Dreams”- how to run in a midtempo song. “Nothing” how to emote while keeping voice sweet
etc. Whitney and Mariah are of course phenomenal singers and legends but they can’t be practiced against because you either hit their notes or fail.

I get teary eyed just thinking about the day when I will meet Brandy again and really get to tell her how much I love her.. The first time I met her was back after afrodisiac and before human. I think she just thought I was some random thirsty fool who just wanted a picture, but I was already a stan.. I had skipped a day full of college classes and drove almost 2 hours because I knew she would be at an event nearby but she didn’t know this.

Always well placed and fresh with the tones and textures blending together and drawing you in to a song.. That FULL MOON album had it all !!!

I loved that young female singers era with that trio of Aaliyah, Brandy & Monica because they all represented the R&B, but sonded totally different, never had the same sounding songs but all them slayed and were relatable. QUALITY!!

Thanks for your contribution, but stop. People like you act like calling Brandy the vocal bible is like saying those artists you named suck, or y’all think we’re shading them. Yeah, many talented singers came before Brandy and there will be more to come after her but…Brandy is an amazing singer in her own right, that simply cannot be denied…You have to understand that the title Vocal Bible was a title that was specifically coined with Brandy in mind, (NOT even by her own fans initially) not for anyone else. Whitney, Mariah, etc they have their own different titles I’m sure as they all brought something different to the music game, as does Brandy.
Please, let’s not get bent out of shape simply because people are giving her high praise that is long overdue.

I can’t believe that brandy don’t really know how much of an impact she made in entertainment not just music she was truly the first black IT girl she showed us that the girl next door could be a superstar that everyone makes mistakes and not perfect I blame how she’s feeling right now to these lil kids/teenagers that probably was 2 or 3 when moesha went off and probably don’t even know she was a cover girl and to everyone else who clearly abandoned her and told her she’s a hasbeen and made her believe it!! Moesha to me is like fresh prince it never gets old you still laugh at the same jokes and fall in love with the characters all over again. Never in your life especially today will you have someone who is her color not light skinned have a bomb selling CD star in a teen blockbuster film do a movie with both Diana and Whitney on ABC network not bet and a hit series for 6 years all b4 they turn 20!! Never no one had that kind of success not Whitney not mariah and definitely not Beyonce or Rihanna!! She really paved the way for ppl like Beyonce like keke palmer to be in things outside their music careers. She faced a whole bunch of rejections to ppl not calling her pretty enough for this and not having the right voice for this brandy is just I’m speechless..that star!! What does that have to do with Brandy? I’m not even gonna look it up, because it sounds negative. Are you implying that Brandy has no vocal talent? Did you not hear a word that India said about her? She spoke the damn truth, the WHOLE truth, and nothing but the truth. A title like “vocal bible” is quite fitting for someone like Brandy because NO one has a voice like hers. Nobody sounds like her. I can go on forever about her voice, but you know what, It’s OK that you don’t like her.
Brandy’s voice and music is an acquired taste, and it’s a shame that most people who dislike her, or like to discredit her simply do NOT understand what she’s trying to do in music, or what she contributes to the music game. But I find it so amazing how talented singers, artists, and musicians in their own right acknowledge that she is indeed a musical, vocal ICON. Dislike all you want, and say what you will be her impact on music cannot be denied.

Actually it’s not negative and if you had looked it up you would have known that. Baroque simply means “ornamented” and refers to a period in music history which those of us who studied music (e.g me) would understand (have a seat) i was simply bridging the gap of where that style of singing orginated and giving examples of other people who do the same style of singing other forms/gnres. Once again have a seat and while your in that seat take a class about music before you begin to speak on it like you know anything other what your force feed by the current media!!!!

So refreshing to finally hear a real artist gets the props they deserve. This really was a moving video and tribute by India Arie who is (exactly underrated herself) Its quite sad exactly… today we have artists like Beyonce, Rihanna etc who get away with making terrible music and are heavily overrated but hear a artist like Brandy who was out making hits way before they both got even known and has CONSISTENTLY released good R&B songs gets nothing by the industry…….Brandy can convey a hell of alot of emotion and one of the very few out of her generation that can.
