R&B diva Keyshia Cole is celebrating the release of her fifth studio album ‘Woman To Woman’, which hit stores on Monday.
Preceded by singles ‘Enough Of No Love’ and ‘Trust & Believe’, the set is on-course to shift 75,000 – 85,000 copies first week.
Having already established a home of sorts at BET by way of her reality series’ (the latest being ‘Keyshia & Daniel: Family First’), the singer stopped by the network’s flagship show 106 & Park yesterday to plug to the set.
Watch her 106 takeover below…

Can’t believe she said that. It’s obvious that she lives as a black woman and when people look at her that’s all they see. No one would know she was biracial by looking at her. Would a ridiculous comment about the show. The fact that she thought that was relevant says a lot about her.

It’s a shame that the numbers are lower than her previous albums, but R&B music just isnt selling as well as it used it. What I wonder though is whether she would be selling more if the album hadn’t leaked early….

Let me preface my comment by stating that I am a Black woman: It is a shame that pure r&b isn’t being supported by music audiences and maybe my thinking is too old school but I can’t imagine it helps any artists’ sales to have an entire album leak.
I think an 85k first week is good for her considering she is not a mainstream artist. It would’ve been nice to see her or Brandy on the AMAs but of course, I forgot r&b isn’t considered american anymore.
Yts never supported Keyshia Cole nor consistently support any other soulful r&b Black female singers. Young yts tend to follow whoever is trendy or “cool”.
Black people these days prefer to illegally download music moreso than supporting artists. There is a really negative “crabs in a barrel” mentality that I cannot fathom. I’ve heard comments to the extent that people feel they can end someone’s career by NOT paying for albums or going to their shows or rejoicing when someone’s album “flops” (how I hate that word).
I’m fortunate to still have a job and have discretionary money for entertainment so I tend to buy a lot of cds & downloads each year while I know others are struggling financially and consider buying music a luxury.

Well I grew up lisening to R&B/Soul, Pop, and Soft Rock in the 70′s and 80′s and the truth is the new R&B music is not up to par. I’d rather keep digging for oldies and building my collection of back in the day jams from the ’70′s, 80′s, and a bit of the 90′s up to a few exceptions post millinium b/c most of the new R&B (and pretty much new music in general) is just not worth buying these days, in my opinion.

Keyshia, first of all you look really good. I didn’t know you were biracial, but it’s okay to do BGR. You’re black my love!
The sales for these artists with strong followings are not be desired. I didn’t expect much higher, but it’s so disappointing to see talented stars falling short of 100K. I’m not a KC fan, but I do respect her. She deserves better (Chrissy, Cici, Bran, etc do as well). Good music is failing to chart the way it should and that’s really sad. This decade is really going to be a piece of work.

Those are actually great numbers in this day for someone like Keyshia who caters specifically to the urban R&B audience. Very very impressive. And I did purchase the album myself and it’s good!!

To describe the sales as “great” or “impressive” is a stress. Its ‘okay’ for sales of R&B these days but folks like Trey Songs and Jill Scott were able to sell more even though they cater specifically to an R&B/soul audience. But you are right, sales are most limited in that genre so I would describe her numbers as okay for the genre.

No they’re not. I hate when people sugarcoat and downplay. The truth is nothing under 450-500k is “impressive”. Good, maybe. Satisfactory, maybe. “Impressive,” no. And anything under 150k (especially if you’re an established act with an established fan base) is bad.
Keyshia has never really been a mainstream/pop-accessible act. She never especially appealed to white folks and pop fans, so no one expected her to this time. However, seeing as how these are her poorest #’s, that means that she didn’t engage those same Black/R&B music fans who bought her music just a handful of years ago.
I like Keyshia and R&B as much as anyone but watering down the truth doesn’t help anyone or anything. All it does is lower expectations and that’s not good. Her management and her label so far are doing a poor job of promoting her and her music and the #’s show it.

R&B is the genre that all the so called great artists have STOLEN from (see ADELE, JUSTINE TIMBERFAKE, AMY WINEHOUSE etc) so to say it’ s not a major genre is not exactly true. What you are seeing is what happens when ppl DEVALUE THEMSELVES & THEIR PPL! All I read on Uriban sites are hateful, evil comments about R&B artists. The music stations are no longer owned by those who traditionally catered to the R&B community. When VH1 Soul was sold to RYAN SEACREST I knew it was the END OF R&B! Those who controll it al…l THE POWERS THAT BE, are only interested in promoting & supporting POP, COUNTRY & HIP HOP! It’s really sad that actual talent is no being encouraged in the industry.

i believe rnb will make a comeback but it will have a white face attached to it. i know there have been white rnb singers but i think tptb will come up with somebody who will be commercially successful enough to dominate the genre and overshadow all of the black singers who came before him/her(tho i think it will be a her for some reason).

The answer to this is simple: The labels don’t market r&b artists to pop radio anymore. They’re not even trying. If you didnt watch BET or listened to urban radio you wouldn’t even know this album was out. Most consumers don’t read blogs either so I’m trying to figure out who they expect to buy these albums if the general public doesn’t even know they’re out.

The album is garbarge. THAT’S why her sales are 100k+. She hasn’t been the same since Just Like You. She’s a good lyricist, but I think her musicality is sometimes off and her melodies are awful. She needs Ron Fair back immediately.

@mely b
not about being black……..
her new team at interscope and mgt did not promote this project well… period
She could have gone on Kelly & Michael, Kimmel, Leno, Fallon, GMA, Ellen, etc…. well before the CD was released like with her other CDS but she didnt……..
She could have performed a song from her album each week after her reality show like Monica but she didnt
She could have released I CHOOSE YOU as her 1st single but she didnt …..
I want Keyshia to win but she only promted her CD on BET… that is not gonna work….
I hope she releases I CHOOSE YOU …. that is a hit

I referenced race in regards to who overwhelmingly supports her career and why her first week sales are where they are. Yes, her promo team could have done all that you suggested but do you dispute my statement regarding a lack of yt support for her during her entire career?
Her promo team didn’t do any of this to promote her during the JUST LIKE YOU era and she sold well despite this because people supported her music. I stand by my comment that even if she HAD appeared on all of the shows you listed, yts would NOT have supported her because Keyshia is not a CROSSOVER/MAINSTREAM ARTIST she is a Blace female r&b artist! Young yts do not support r&b unless it is more pop/dance influenced and they sure don’t listen to artists in Keyshia’s lane.

Umm to the people who are saying that brandy hasn’t been promoting her album that s not accurate because Sam is not post any information on her check twitter and Facebook page and you will have your answer and brandy just attended the amas awards check necole bitchie on that one two she had mini concerts at Howard theater and Baltimore so she promoting her album it may not be big as Rihanna promo but all you can do is blame the label for that

That’s not promo. Promotion is when you perform your music at an award show so that ppl have a reason to buy your music. not being a presenter.
Also, I am a huge Brandy fan so please believe we follow each other on twitter. Those concerts were great but that is not promotion. The ppl who come to her shows already have the intention to buy her music if they haven’t already.
I’m just surprised she didn’t perform at the Soul Train awards, AMA’s, no late night show performances since the album dropped. No magazine covers. Hell…she hasnt even been on Chelsea Lately.
She needs to push another single ASAP cuz Wildest Dreams is dead in the water and I’m very surprised it was ever released as a single.
I say add a rapper to Do You Know and push that as the next single since radio has already jumped on it.

That is crazy I thought she would push like 200K+. I think she needed more promo or something because the album is actually good. It’s not a Just Like You buy its better than most of the stuff being put out today. If she continues to promote it and tour for 2013 and then release a new album early 2014 she will do better.
But besides all of that I believe that the industry is now all politics. Record labels buy a lot of CDs so that their artist will get a number one which is promo itself.

The number is what I expected. Yesterday R&B sales of 200k to 500k the first wee are dead in the water and will never return. If any R&B artist (true R&B) can sales 65k to 100k opening week that is success in today’s market, if they finish with a gold certification, it’s considered a smash. The album is actually one of her better albums. Hope her label continue to support it throughout next year because it’s a very solid album.

Keyshia Cole is great but her popularity is dying out as we speak, plus it’s never a good idea to release an album the same week as Rihanna!! R&B is out and electronic pop music is in, the sooner she realizes that, the sooner her pockets will be filled
