I love Rihanna but I refuse to let my being a fan of hers delude me. It is a proven fact that she lacks vocal stamina and endurance when singing in a “live” setting. Sometimes, she is fantastic and at other times, she can be, honestly and generally speaking, sub-par and mediocre.
By all means, she is not talented. She has her own unique vocal style and she utilizes it to the best of her ability.
Also, Rihanna smokes and drinks. Yes, each to their own but let’s not pretend that those substances can have a deadly, long-term affect on one’s vocal cords, destroying their, overall, tone and range.

Rihanna’s timbre (tonal color & quality) shines the brightest, in a “live” setting, when she is singing easy-listening- based ballads or slow-tempo songs i.e: ‘Stay, Unfaithful, Take a Bow and Russian Roulette’ etc. as opposed to more up-tempo/up-beat songs.
But, I honestly believe that it is the Alcohol and Smoking that is affecting her – those two substances can truly drain you of any kind of physical energy, stamina, endurance etc… I am surprised she hasn’t collapsed yet.
