And the sales are in!
Yes, one week after unlocking the studio effort, the opening week number for August Alsina‘s debut LP ‘Testimony‘ have been released!
This, days after industry outlet ‘Hits Daily Double‘ predicted the star would shift between 50 to 60,000 units following an intense promo run that saw him tackle the press head on with interviews given to outlets from all walks of media life.
Unfortunately, those who placed bets on the sales using ‘Double’s prediction can now consider themselves losers, as he did not move numbers between 50 and 60k mark.
What he did sell?
Find out below…
Billboard 200 chart position: #2
US opening week sales figure: 63,522.
Selling more than he was predicted to, Alsina’s ‘Testimony’ now stands as the second highest selling album this week with 63,522 units…second only to Disney’s ‘Frozen‘ soundtrack, which moved 261,169 units in the last seven days!
Set to give the folks over at Def Jam cause to celebrate today, Alsina‘s chart triumph-though modest when compared to numbers moved by the likes of Tamar Braxton and Fantasia– see him outperform efforts made by many a seasoned R&B act, moving with one hit single than they struggle to do with three or four.
Indeed, in what really is a testament to the label’s handling of him and the impact made by lead single ‘I Luv It‘, August now finds himself on course to becoming a solid album seller and quite the threat to a number of his closest contemporaries.
After all, one shouldn’t forget that the 63,000 units he moved came without the benefit of the household name status most R&B acts who move similar amounts have had for years.
This, telling of just how much of a sales force he’ll become once he catches the full attention of the general public in the months to follow!
In other chart news, Jason Derulo‘s ‘Talk Dirty’ opens with 43,779 units sold while Jhene Aiko‘s ‘Sail Out’ enjoys a sales increase of 16% with 6,968 copies moved since last week’s chart was published!
