At the end of the day, Rihanna gets a check from Samsung. I’m not comparing this to anyone else’s albums, but this is a feat and signals an important direction for the industry. This is exactly the kind of album Rihanna needed to release to become a mature pop artist. It makes me excited for what’s next.

I think this was a smart move! Does it desire honorable mention, no; but she does deserve credit for making a smart decision. Just think about it…why lose money on an album that fickle fans may or may not purchase? Why not have your rich Uncle Samsung pick up the tab (in exchange for you promotion their new phone) ,put the album out, tour and make money off of a technically good album. Don’t get me wrong, it is still possible to go multi-platinum on an album from sales…Adele proved that very well. I’m late to the party, but i was seeing reads about how she bought the position/plaque. I am not a Rihanna fan, nor am I against her. So i guess my opinion is impartial: I guess TECHNICALLY she sold 1 million tracks, but it does not mean that ONE MILLION PEOPLE bought them. An not only that, they were bought wholesale to be given away.
So, I’m sorry, but i don’t consider that an achievement that needs to be recognized, but hell, if someone payed me $1.00 for a song of mine (or any product I sell) and they bought 1 million, well then OH HELL YES I AM TAKING THAT.
