Fans of The Weeknd will know that the Canadian performer is of Ethiopian descent.

Today, those fans will also learn just how determined the entertainer is to share his culture with them and students at the University of Toronto.

The Bikila Awards committee reached out to the star to see if he would join them as they planned to raise funds for the school’s Ethiopic studies department.

He answered their call with a $50,000 cheque.

Why?

Unfamiliar with Ethiopian history?

The altruistic vocalist is still riding high on the wave that is his latest album ‘Beauty Behind the Madness’ and its smash hit singles ‘The Hills’ and ‘Can’t Feel My Face.’
