Must See: Will.i.am Responds To Kanye West Slavery Remarks

Published: Wednesday 2nd May 2018 by David

Will.i.am is hurt, shocked and disgusted by Kanye West’s claim that African-American chattel slavery was a choice.

The dazed and confused rapper made the remark during an interview with TMZ Live‘ and even went as far as to suggest that African-American communities did not care about African-American lives.

How Will responded?

Watch below…

He had this to say on ‘Good Morning Britain‘…

That broke my heart, because I thought about my grandma, who was born in 1920, and her connection with her mom who raised her, who was born in the late 1800s.

And my grandmother’s grandma, who was a slave. And when you’re a slave, you’re owned.

You don’t choose if you’re owned. When you’re a slave you’re deprived of education. That’s not choice, that’s by force.

So I understand the need to have free thought, but if your thoughts aren’t researched, that is just going to hurt those that are still in conditions where it’s not choice. That when they go down the street and there’s a liquor store and fast-food restaurants and your education is not being funded the same way that it is being in Calabasas…

When governments stifle and limit the amount of money that goes to Chicago, Bronx, Watts, 5th Ward Mississippi, East Los Angeles, where I’m from.

Do you agree?

They need to start asking white folks what they think about Kanye’s comments because their families were probably s**** owners.

most white people didn’t own slaves, also a large enough percentage of black Americans have white ancestors too

      • Dev May 2, 2018

I didn’t say all and every, and yes! A large percentage of black people in general have white ancestors due to somebody in their family tree being r**** under those conditions

Kanye explained this…. only idiots don’t understand he was speaking on mental slavery and the importance of not having black minds enslaved for the next 400 years by buying into identity politics. His delivery sucked, but the message is a very real and important one. Most of yall don’t have enough brain power to understand, instead you focus on the surface of his comments… it’s actually funny to see which public figures are too ignorant to see past the deliver…. use your brain #FreeThinking

I disagree, if you’re going to delivery something deliver it properly and if not allow yourself to be criticised. If he wants to deliver information like his brethren Trump than expect what you you are getting.
If DHL came to deliver your parcel and when you got in is was mashed up and damaged then you’d have something to say about the delivery regardless if the item inside was okay or not

Like you mentioned the slavery statement delivery sucked. I am glad you are able to read between his lines and see what he meant but many people can’t. Especially those who were living during those times or even the time of segregation. These comments don’t sit well with older generations because they lived in harsher times. Most of the people on social media are on the younger side, we didn’t experience the life or separation as they did in those times. We just know by the education we have received or the stories. So as a black man, you bet he should have explained himself more detailed. Remember he is a “genius,” he is “ahead of his time.”… so you’re telling me he couldn’t elaborated more? Like Obama has said, this guy is an “A$$•0••” before, now and will be in the future. He needs special help, he is smart so it’s not like he is stupid.

Exactly. People didn’t take it the wrong way. He said it the wrong way. We’re not responsible for rearranging his words to make sense. That’s his job. It’s called thinking before you speak. Apparently, people are idiots for not using their brains to make up for Kanye not using his. We have to “free think” for him now? Isn’t he a self proclaimed genius?

will i who?…kanye said what he said!

slavery did not last 400 years…that’s a lie it was less than 300.
also y’all are not listening to what kany is saying at all.

I hope you do know Slavry is still going on today and has been around even before the 1400s. Now you are ignorant to the subject. What he said was black and white, but what he was talking about gray. You have to keep in mind, all this is just for publicity for the attention on his album too. But it’s painful how insensitive he is to the older generation. If you’re gonna come out with statements like he did then you better be very detailed on explaining what you mean. If you had a two hour interview, then you have another 2 minutes to provide more details than he did. Hopefully he gets some sort of help to prevent him from doing anything else that’s “ahead of his time” and harms himself.

This man has also gone vegan I believe. It´s the future and the obvious right choice. More power to him.

    • Jasmine May 2, 2018

Oh be quiet. Don’t try and generalize vegans as having this kind of crazy. Kanye is crazy and you are an Uncle Tom (ie a black man who bends over for white men and pretends racism does not exist). Veganism has NOTHING to do with you and Kanye’s plight. Hell, I’m technically vegan because I am a lactose intolerant vegetarian and you don’t see me agreeing with Kanye’s idiotic craziness. Thus, your generalization is totally wrong.
