Beyonce & Lady Gaga Led ‘Stevie Wonder Tribute’ A Moderate Ratings Draw Despite All-Star Lineup

beyonce-thatgrapejuice-stevie wonder

Not even the combined powers of music super divas Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Jennifer Hudson were enough to shift killer ratings for the second installment of the ‘Grammy tribute’ series – this time paying homage the academy’s most decorated artist Stevie Wonder.

Airing February 15th on CBS, the showing – a critics top pick –  did manage to draw a respectable viewing audience, but still nearly less than half of last year’s episode in honor of the Beatles (which drew a whopping 13.95 million viewers).  The numbers are all the more disappointing as, unlike the Beatles tribute, Wonder’s installment had little competition elsewhere on television.

But, as reports below reveal, all was not lost.  For, after the likes of Pharrell Williams, Ariana Grande, Janelle Monae, John Legend, and Ed Sheeran put their ever modern twists on Wonder’s classic hits, interest in the 70s & 80s numbers found itself skyrocketing on top sites Spotify and Shazam.

While the majority of her Grammy night went to plan, a few tweets found on India Arie‘s Twitter page reveal that not everything went smoothly for the ‘Cocoa Butter’ beauty, especially as it relates to industry gal pal Lady Gaga.

For, while headlines were dominated with news of rants related to Beyonce (see: Beck, Kanye West, Ledisi, and more), rumblings were happening elsewhere between Arie’s #Soulbirds and Gaga’s #LittleMonsters after the former took to Twitter to slam the ‘Artpop’ performer’s bodyguard for literally slapping her hand to prevent her from touching.

The result of which saw both fanbases erupt into a Twitter tussle that is still ongoing…

India.Arie Pens Open Letter Regarding Grammy Awards & Racism

Sunday night’s Grammy Awards were not short on controversy. Indeed, between Macklemore‘s multiple wins, Kendrick Lamar‘s shut-out, and Beyonce‘s racy display, the show continues to dominate headlines two days removed.

It’s a trend that looks set to continue – courtesy of soulful singer India.Arie.

The 38-year-old has penned an “open letter” relaying her frustration with the lack of Grammy love directed towards Hip-Hop and R&B artists; something she suggests is soaked in racism.

India’s words after the jump…
