The accolades continue to roll in for actress Lupita Nyong’o.

Fresh from nabbing Golden Globes and Oscars for her role in ’12 Years A Slave’, the Kenyan-bred talent has been named PEOPLE magazine’s “Most Beautiful Person In The World”.

Lancome‘s newest spokesmodel not only celebrates the feat a-front of PEOPLE, she dishes on her journey to self-acceptance in an exclusive interview.

Lupita, in her words, after the jump…

Via People:

“It was exciting and just a major, major compliment,” the 31-year-old says of gracing this year’s cover. And especially, I was happy for all the girls who would see me on it and feel a little more seen.”

Born in Mexico and raised in Kenya, Nyong’o first equated beauty with what she saw on television: “Light skin and long, flowing, straight hair,” she says. “Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess.”  Her mother, Dorothy, who is the managing director and head of PR for the Africa Cancer Foundation, “always said I was beautiful,” Nyong’o adds.  “And I finally believed her at some point.”

As a teen, Nyong’o dyed her hair every color — except blonde — and even went as far as shaving her head bald.  “It was very strange and very cold!” she says, laughing.  “It was scary but I like to dare myself.”

Now she says the best compliments are “when I have been called beautiful with not one drop of makeup on,” she adds.  “And also before I comb my hair or put on a pretty dress.  Happiness is the most important thing.”

While we have a hard time swallowing the concept of “measuring” beauty, there’s no denying that this is an amazing coup for the rising star. And one that we hope positively impacts the mainstream idea of beauty is and can be.

More power to her.

I knew it was going to be her, totally deserved it, her beauty is unmatched, she’s also very talented and smart, she seems genuine about all the success she’s having which only makes her more likeable.

Plays: Black Beauty by Lana Del Rey.

To be honest, I think her getting this comes from her being beautiful INSIDE and OUT. She seems like a very chill and relaxed girl so people have taken to her, which is more than can be said for some of the whores in Pop music today.

I agree with Lupita being no1. She’s massively gifted with looks and acting skills.

She is just Amazing! She embody’s all the things I think African Americans should always showcase in the media – Intelligence, Beauty, Grace & above all Positivity. If Hip Hop & R&B Artist showcased thos quality’s the Urban Music community wouldn’t be such a hot mess.

      Yes to this.

I think she’s a very stunning woman but what I think is the most endearing about her is how humble, articulate, poised, talented and intelligent she is. However, I am quite disappointed in the way some people have reacted negatively to her success on the mainstream front. I’ve seen some people dismiss her beauty by saying it’s only because she won an Oscar that she’s now deemed beautiful, her dark complexion, short hair and toned frame make her ‘look like a man’ (wtf) and all sorts of nonsense. I believe she’s the third black woman (correct me if I’m wrong) to grace People Magazine’s cover as the most beautiful other than Halle and Bey so that is a feat within itself but where was the outrage when those women were chosen? I think Bey and Halle are absolutely gorgeous but because Lupita doesn’t fit that archetypal standard of black beauty pushed by the media, she is now ‘overrated’? I call BS. I’m proud of her and wish her continued success. All I hope is this adulation by the media doesn’t turn her into another Halle Berry type career, who cracked under pressure and has not been able to live up to her Oscar-winning role in Monster’s Ball.

        The delusion.

Ok what kind of sick GLEE society are we living in?
    She is beautiful yes,
    Beautiful personality yes,

    BUT

Sorry, what kind of delusion is this that this woman is the most beautiful in the world/holly wood?

And before you think i’m being racist? There are tones of other black ladies more beautiful.

    Eg: kerri washington

If you google “TB in South Africa”

Millions of photos of girls that look like lupita from the shacks of soweto will pop up.

She’s just a drain turtle that happens to be famous

  12. Stephy Blondie April 23, 2014

Awwww Im so happy for her! She absolutely deserves this. When I saw her in the movies getting whipped by her master. She had a nice lil body on her. My dickk actually got hard for a woman for the first time in a loooooooooooooong time. Her booty was NICE! If I was straight I would definitely be with a chocolate lil thing like her. Her face is a 10 also.

    Anyways…

  13. FutureCIARA April 23, 2014

    Although Lupita deserves this!!

Peopla Magazine is totally uncredible when they place people like Gwenyth Paltrow in the Most Beautiful people lists…..

    Nonetheless, congrats Lupita!

  14. FutureCIARA April 23, 2014
