Whitney Houston’s Mother Cissy Slams Lifetime Biopic

Lifetime‘s Whitney Houston biopic has been hit by yet another jab. This time courtesy of the late diva’s mother, Cissy Houston.

Controversy has engulfed the Angela Bassett helmed project since its announcement, with opinion split on almost every facet. Indeed, everything from the featured stars to it being a TV telepic instead of a cinematic release have come under fire. And let’s just say say, Ms. Cissy has poured fuel on the flames.

The 80-year-old offered Entertainment Tonight a statement about her views on the film — and it definitely wasn’t endorsing.

Her words below…

“Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family’s objections. No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby.

In the two years since Whitney’s death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn’t know her. We are exhausted by the continuing misinformation and comments offered by people who did not know her. Please please let her rest.” {Source}

Yikes.

That said, her sentiments haven’t dimmed our interest in the movie (which is due next year). However, with all this adversity, it’s tasked with delivering in a big way. A B-I-G way.

Your thoughts?

How they gon’ make a movie about THE VOICE without having anyone their who knew THE VOICE personally. THA F****? I don’t understand how & why is this movie even being made when they don’t have facts & the families consent on making a movie about their DEAD family member. Weird….

I’m only here for this because Angela Bassett is directing. I think she has earned everyone’s respect as far as an actor and would not put out something bad her name will always be attached to. None of us know the story she is telling but she did star in a movie with Whitney so I’m confused as to how her mother (who strikes me as very shady herself) would say no one knew her who is attached. The director knew her u dummy.

    • SMH July 22, 2014

No, the director WORKED with her. Big difference, dummy.

      • Yea ok July 22, 2014

I read that by working together in the movie they became cool. Like I said. NONE of us know what she knows or doesn’t know. Including u dear? Or do u have Whitney on speed dial in heaven?

You act like her and Whitney hung out if that’s the case mariah should direct a movie about her too. Like someone said they worked together big difference

Lifetime needs to just scrap both this movie and the Aaliyah biopic. Both movies have already turned into hot messes and they haven’t even begun filming them yet. Take the hint, Lifetime.

    • Gregory Pigram July 22, 2014

Nip it in the bud. Both movies the are gonna be flops anyway.

Bottom line, if the subject’s families aren’t involved, they shouldn’t be done, period. The public thinks they’re entitled to stuff like this, and they’re NOT.

The problem is that they’re rushing these movies because they think it will have the same success that the TLC movie had. I seriously doubt if it will, especially since this movie won’t be about Whitney’s life, it will be about her marriage to Bobby. In that aspect, Miss Cissy is right. Nobody truly knows about their marriage except them, and Bobby isn’t a part of this movie either, so this movie will be based on nothing but rumors and tabloid gossip.

I feel for Angela Bassett. She must feel some type of way for trying to make a movie to honor her friend but everyone is hitting out at it. Its kind a bad look that u can’t even use her vocals. Poor Yaya.

I feel for Whitney so bad. Between the hard life, the destruction, the ticking bomb on her health and life, being ridiculed to the fullest extent possible by the public, and more, it just is sad that she still can’t get some type of peace even after life. It is just so sad. I could cry for her and her family. RIP

Lifetime was a once respectable network. They have no credibility today, and for that reason I will not support the Whitney and Aaliyah movies, nor anything else they dream up. These projects need to be stopped; no family should be violated like this.

Yea they look mighty thirsty these days.

Whitney Houston is one of the best ever, if not the best! I don´t care for anything which is not based on her carrer or her real voice!
