Terrible. This basically sums up 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. I was already sceptical about the show considering the so-so line-up of performers, but it was a complete mess.
Setting the tone for the night was opener Britney Spears. With all that’s gone on, I was hoping she’d silence the naysayers, but this was a complete and utter and trainwreck. A combination of poor lipsyching, stiff choreography and an outfit that revealed her out of shape body, Britney’s performance will no doubt have many saying her career is over. It will be if she doesn’t find a way to redeem herself from that mess.
Most of the night’s other performers offered little of interest. Although I must give Rihanna props for doing her thing during Chris Brown’s so-so performance and later on during ‘Shut Up & Drive’.
The show wasn’t all bad, though. Alicia Keys’ performance was a standout. She nailed ‘No One’, making me like the song all the more. I wasn’t initially all that hyped for her performance, but she was definitely the highlight of what was a mediocre night (at best).
MTV really need to step it up and the show has been on a downward spiral for years. I was thinking it was all award shows, but the BET Awards this year really showed out – beating this mess hands down. SMH…

Man…Britney’s performance sucked ass. Michelle from Destiny’s Child could’ve did better. She seemed like she was unsure of herself. She still need to lose that baby weight, and JLo can lip sync better than her. CHILD needs help!!!! The performance of the night belonged to Chris Brown. He did that s***. Everything else was a s***** mess.

britney was sad. she couldn’t even lip sync and i kept hoping that maybe justin or timbo was gonna come out of the back and save the song….they should’ve just turned of the power and blamed it on “live tv”….justin, come get your girl

highlights of the evening:
1. 50 snubbing beyonce when she went in for the kiss, lol
2. the joke was on beyonce when she realized it wasn’t a toga party and she was caught in that dress
3. kid rock and tommy lee fight (just hearing about it from jaimie fox)
4. chris brown’s performance even though he just lipsang.
mtv sucks becuase:
1. they had no business putting brit on when they knew she wasn’t ready. nicole did a better job during the preshow.
2. putting rihanna in chris brown’s performance just so they could say her name and take away from his moment. lol at her getting 14 secondes to do those songs and calling that a performance. and by the way she wasn’t singing live either so spare me that great vocal comment
3. giving jt a quadruple threat award over bono and jay z when he is far from accomplished in anything but music. even beyonce is more successfull in acting and clothing.
4. giving rihanna a video of the year award even though we know it was for the esteemed director more than anything. i am glad she beat beyonce though. i bet b was slowly dieing inside.
best performance was the live singing queen… ms alicia keys. she was the only reason i watched.

all this s*** was planned it seemed like, you know how charm shcool (the show and the reunion) seem like a big as plot to keep views tuned in

1st about Brit and why she did that poor performance :
Britney threatened to ditch her VMA performance just minutes before she took the stage. Want to know why? Britney overheard Sarah Silverman rehearsing her monologue in which she calls Britney’s babies mistakes and takes jab after jab at Britney.
Britney made it very clear with MTV that Sarah was NOT allowed to talk about her kids, and MTV agreed. That big-mouthed b**** said it anyway.
Sam Lufti (VMA producer) was overheard backstage screaming at Sarah Silverman because of her outrageous remarks saying: “Sarah Silverman is a seriously unprofessional person to make fun of infants to get a laugh.”
Perhaps this why Britney looked upset during her performance. Britney was seen backstage in Alli’s arms crying about how cruel people can be to her babies.
Britney Spears was to perform under the magic of Chris Angel… but MTV freaked out at the last minute finding out what Britney was actually going to do.
Supposidly, what Britney and Chris were planning was to do a set of mirrors and flotation. But when told to the Palms Hotel/Casino… the hotel flipped.
Insurance was the main problem, and the stage couldn’t support the performance. MTV also freaked at the last minute because of their fear of being “too controversial” during the performance. Britney and Chris were infact furious with MTV’s sad excuse and told Britney to change the performance at the last minute.
Britney’s original performance was to infact appear and disappear. To float through the air… and for much mature dancing”

Alicia Keys… Well I expected a lil more from her. I mean I wanted her to do an only “no one” performance. She’s very talented but here I think that she should have a lil more stage presence to make it amazing !
Nicole did her job… that’s all I mean she did the strictly good necessary…

I couldn’t even watch the whole Britney performance. Wow. I feel so bad for her. She wasn’t ready. She looked very uncomfortable.

Hands down Alicia was the best performance! That girl worked the entire stage, she did not sing over pre recorded tracks, she even had the usually emotionless celebrities into her performance.
Chris Brown is a good entertainer I enjoyed it, but I would not pay to see him dance for an hour. You gotta be able to sing and dance MJ did, James brown, usher etc…
Brit was a HAM! Seriously that was like watching a train wreck. I wasn’t expecting to feel the earth move but I was expecting HER to move.
Kanye got to perform what seemed like between each commercial then again with T-Pain. Now he crying about not coming back cause he didn’t win an award when is he gonna get over himself!
JT did not deserve that triple quadruple or whatever award.

Britney was a hot mess. Look like she had Peaches from down the street do her weave in the kitchen. I was expecting her to come out swingin’. I would say this is what happens when you have too many ‘yes’ men in your camp, but it appears that if you tell her the truth she fires and/or disowns you.
Alicia brought the s*** home but too bad she didn’t look good doing it … girlfriend looked like a super hero with that hair and glittery boots. But she is not know for her sense of style … she did what she is known for and that is performing well. I love that she didn’t lipsync.
everyone knows britney can bring it when it comes to stage performances, note the ‘i’m a s**** 4 u’ – with the snake & the madonna/christina colab at previous VMA’s… but yeah she was way off with this; i think something happened, there’s just gotta be more to the story. to be honest I cant say i thought rihanna or nelly furtado were much better & chris browns choreography was greta but he was miming
