Mary’s ‘Growing Pains’ Sells 629,000 First Week

Mary J. Blige Mary J. Blige made a huge impact on the Billboard 200 album chart with her eighth studio album ‘Growing Pains’. The Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul sold through an impressive 629,000 copies of the LP – the follow-up to her 2005 multi platinum effort ‘The Breakthrough’. Despite this, Blige charted at #2 – unable to oust Josh Groban’s ‘Noel’ album from the top spot (which sold 757,000 in it’s third week of release).
In other album news, Alicia Keys’ ‘As I Am’, currently #3 on the chart, enjoys a 62% sales increase with 474,000 copies sold. Chris Brown continues to sell consistently with ‘Exclusive’, selling 176,000. Jaheim’s ‘Making Of A Man’ enters at #11 with 176,000 units shifted, whilst Lupe Fiasco’s ‘The Cool’ occupies the #15 spot with 143,000 copies sold.
Lower down the chart, Bow Wow and Omarion’s ‘Face Off’ takes a tumble – dropping 11-29 with 89,000 sold. In what must be an embarrassment for Disturbing The Peace star Chingy, the rapper’s latest LP ‘Hate It Or Love It’ came in at a dismal #84, having sold just 31, 517 copies. Ouch.

CONGRATS TO MJB…DA MVP! lol… I’m not a fan and i wasnt gonna buy her CD when it came out( even though i have a poster of the release date and album on my wall… She doesn’t really do much for me.

Everytime people sell like this, i think of when Kelly Rowland said “the music industry as changed”… and that was the reason why she sold 80,000+ copies.. If Alicia and Mary can do it… why couldn’t she…

I was gonna buy Face Off cuz i liked a few of their songs…but I’m a bigger fan of Omarion than Bow Wow and he seem to be rapping more than Omarion is singing… I didn’t like that so I didn’t make a effort to buy that album… I can’t wait for Omarion’s next album though… I don’t care much for Bow wow

congrats to mary, growing pains is a GREAT album, i cant believe that alicia has sold over 2 million copies in total since the release, i thought lupe would of sold more considering the hype around the album, wasnt too surprised with the flop of face off, it isnt THAT great, but i am surprised with chingy’s album as it is a good album, with quite a few decent tracks

josh groban’s cd has been out since october, not just three weeks. and he’s breaking records, it’s a little crazy considering it’s only a christmas album. but he’s got the best selling album of the year. i figured mary would find it difficult taking him down.
